The absurdity of the postal service goes back many many years. No doubt it has happened to ALL distros, big or small, at some point. These rants are appreciated. Keep em coming haha
I work in shipping at my company and USPS is not the most reliable. They've forgotten to pick up from us a number of times. One time, in a mail tray, we found a number small items addressed for overseas that had been shipped over a month prior. These items were lost for over a month before they ended up at my company. We put them with our post office pick up and sent them out. Who knows if they got there... probably not.
I work for the USPS. Those international packages, idk I didn't see them closely enough to get the full picture to comment. That said, UTF's and NSN's are 100% the buyers fault. Our post office will deliver a package if the address is messed up assuming we can figure out where it actually goes. But packages being returned and you being charged postage due is completely the buyers fault. We're not mind readers who know where every person lives and we also dont have the time to go knocking on everyone's door to figure it out. Time is money. Even though we're a branch of the government we dont rely on tax payer dollars to get paid. All our profits come from our services. When a dumbass cant get their address right and it spends more time in our hands, we deserve to be compensated for it. That's why we're dicks about not mailing letters without postage. There's no "oh they'll send it through anyways; its the postal service". No, fuck you; that's money out of MY pocket. At least 1/3rd of the people that come in to mail something off dont even know how and where to address something. Also, when you see us cover an address and tracking number on something that's been returned, we do that so the package doesn't return to us. Returns and forwards need to be manipulated so the computers dont return them to us. Also still salty about that inquisition misprint about a decade or so ago. You knowingly sold misprints and assured me you were working on fixing the issue, but all I was left with at the end of the day was a misprinted LP. See? Every company has it's bullshit moments. I just went through this shit. I ordered 4 vinyls from HHB n was greeted with all 4 broken n half n 1 cd! I Sent an email asking if they had a number I could call n Justin told me he would would take care of me. Thank you Justin n fuck the post office!!!
There was a time many years ago that I was a delivery driver for Jimmy John's. It was labor day I believe, and this woman was so high she forgot the exact setup of her street address. Say it was some number primrose street, she couldn't remember if it was the regular, north, or south incarnation. I ended up having to do all three. Another time a guy said he was ordering to the gamestop at Fashion Square Mall. I go there and no such gamestop exists. I call the customer and he goes "There's no Gamestop at the Fashion Square Mall in Richmond Virginia?" I had to explain to my manager that he took an order from a guy thousands of miles away.
well, I sold the CD to one person and shipped it to him, The post service lost the package so they called me and told that I need to pay them so they can investigate where the package stuck. basically they charged the shipping, investigation and another shipping for a 6 bucks CD. but you cant beat their scam.
There are actually people who don't know what their precise street address is, but they generally don't send for mail order packages. Not knowing what your address is generally happens to people who just moved recently and lack of postal dealings, and job applications etc is usually the reason

LITERALLY just dealt with someone who provided the wrong house number to us and it got bounced back as NSN. I emailed TWICE and after 8-9 days they finally responded with the correct address. It’s so hard to not tell someone like this to f*ck off or make them pay the return shipping since it was on them. Ah well - the cost of doing business I guess.
