Disclaimer: I'm a shortsighted person, I kind of wanted to highlight my shortsightedness in this video because that's how stuff makes me feel. I should have been more specific about "the solution to these problems," but there's so little funding that nobody can be accommodated for in public education. These problems manifest a lot differently for different kinds of people, it could be too much work and stress as opposed to my boredom. I also think I sound really pretentious in this video and probably shouldn't have cut out the part where I say "by the way I'm not trying to be an asshole about this."

I was in a similar situation in high school. I’ve worked a lot of cool jobs over the years that I loved and now that I’m a high school teacher, I’ve been looking back to figure out what makes school difficult for students who have unique abilities or potential. The shortest answer is that you are in a cohort spending all their time *preparing* to participate in the work of making society better, but you and many of your peers are ready to just get to the part where you *contribute* to making society better. Now’s the time to go to your counselors, teachers, and admin to say that you’d like to do internships, capstones, work-studies, or even dual-enrolling in college classes. You’ve got the chops and the drive, why wait around to go at the same pace as everyone else? The world needs what you have to offer as soon as possible, so come on out here and help us fix the real problems, my dude.

Unfortunately the options you've listed are rarely available at schools in developing countries...
@alexanderkruszewski7306

@@azatshakenov195 True, the context of my suggestion was primarily informed by the public education system in the United States. However, I do know of some incredible work being done in other countries whose education systems are set up differently. For example, I know organizations like FUNDAEC in Colombia, Kimanya-Ngeyo Foundation in Uganda, Inshindo Foundation in Zambia, and Fondation Erfan-Connaissance in the DRC are doing amazing work in rural health, agricultural science, and small business development even when there is hardly any infrastructure in place. I guess that would mean that, for students in regions like those, these opportunities may look less like "dual-enrolling in college classes" or "internships" and more like apprenticeships, starting your own small business, or even partnering with non-governmental organizations to improve your town or city.

I felt this way in high school (if anyone says you should "move schools", I went to one of the "best-nationally" STEM high schools), and so did most people I knew there. College wastes much less of your time: an average schedule holds about 3hrs of lecture each day (maybe half of which is worth optionally attending), plus about 2hrs of assignments (if you spread work evenly). I make up the rest of a 30hr week reading, mostly related to my studies, which interest me. This is for someone pursuing two majors considered difficult at a decent state university. There seems to exist a law of Nature: Pursuing a goal only seems difficult and worthwhile in the long run when the motivation comes from within you. This is much easier to do when you're not under 8-hour-daily supervision from peons. excellent work! I'd love to see an update with your solution to the problem, or how you feel after graduating/in college.

Here's to hoping things get better in college!

Amen to that. Even before having to get up at 5:30 AM (same time as me), and even without the intense "crashes" you talked about, this still feels like a perfect description of my experiences and attitude as a schoolkid. I've felt like this about school, life and pointless/empty occupations since elementary school. The waking up at 5:30 AM; the often ignored fact that most of what's taught doesn't amount to more than busywork; the "choice" between 7-ish years of school and no professional future; all while knowing that if pick the wrong occupation, it's going to be like this forever. Well, at least you get a Master's in recognizing how you _don't_ want to spend your life.

I resonate with this quite a bit. I have always hated school because it felt like a waste of time. Finished work in middle and elementary school months before the year ended, and maintained a perfect GPA my first year of high school without ever studying or otherwise putting effort in. COVID started towards the end of my freshman year, and as it was being made clear that it would continue into my sophomore year, I ended up taking the SAT and getting my GED. I took the rest of my sophomore and all of my junior year off to audition for conservatories (I’m a classical musician) and got into my top choice with a full ride. I am now attending a year early during what would have been my senior year. I did get lucky, but to whoever is reading this, know that you do have control over your future. Often when someone tells you you can’t do something, you might try it out and find that you can. Great video

I can relate to you in some regard. As a child, I had no care for school and had zero interest in it. I basically only was graduated through classes because they didn't want me to redo a grade, and I was also among other mentally deficient children. Once I got to high school, I decided to try, and then I got A's in all my classes basically. I had work done early, beneficial as I never had to do homework and got everything done at school. With extra time I had, I walked around the mountaint trails around my school, which led to me getting over some of my stamina problems in regards to asthma. All I'll say is this: if you don't care about school, yet it's easy for you, then don't make it your highest priority. Throughout and without school I've worked on a map of human history, planned all the clothes I will buy for the rest of my life and wrote thousands of notes on all kinds of topics (I think I'm over 6,000 at this point, haven't checked in a while). These personal projects are my passion and my highest priority. I will be returning to college again (I was taking college classes while I was in high school because they snuck me in), and while I will certainly bring effort in regards to succeeding, that class will simply be another side topic for me. The prospect of getting a degree is simply a fun challenge to me; I do it not for any reason in regards to money, status or notoriety. This mentality is why I don't question the value of school; if school simply occupies as much space in your brain as you value it, what's the purpose blaming it for its limitations? It is led by people whose idea of value isn't the same as yours, and you're better off maximising that which you value and wish to aspire for.

I've been thru this a lot, thru high school and college. Honestly there's no immediate solution. Wait until you start getting into Philosophy, and not just surface level Phil quotes and memorable movie quotes, I'm taking about going deep into the theories from Ancient Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, Judaic, to closer modern day European Philosophy. Then you will have a better understanding of the world and the way to express your thoughts better, and probably have more questions after the fact. Good luck and God speed.

Good video! Regarding 4:52, I think that's plausibly a delirious episode. I've had one half a decade ago due to extreme chronic sleep deprivation. But I didn't have any qualia of existentialism, just intrigued reflection instead, as I'm quite interested by altered states of mind. I think it's incredibly healthy that you are channeling this frustration into (video) essays. This way there can be actual societal change, as those with the capacity to articulate their words such as yourself are those that pave the way for people to even think about these things in a clear way. Regarding high school, don't worry, it gets better. I've had a quite bad experience with high school, but university or alternatively getting a job is leagues better. My disillusionment however has worsened my relationship to university and my lack of attention in high school as well as the complete rebellion against it has left me with academic regrets of insufficient mathematics and chemistry education, though those are the only two.
@ricfl4r

I believe you had some good insight and many young gifted ADD/ADHD kids (especially males) feel as if they are being cheated throughout education. Some crucial things need to be fixed, like increasing attention span and boredom, but boredom is a state of mind. There is an endless slew of information online and you can learn and do many things in our current circumstances for little to no cost. I think your arguments for the "bureaucratic man upstairs" controlling everything are based on faulty premise that doesn't accept any responsibility for any actions or circumstances. School may seem pointless, but school can help you learn many things if you learn how to play the game. Creating the most out of every circumstance you have is the best way to go. You can only be bored if you allow yourself to be bored. I understand your frustration with the man upstairs and the "lack of doing anything," but sometimes the only reason things are bad is because the people itself that the system is structured around are bad. If you aren't around a group of driven individuals or a strong household, then you'll never be motivated. You won't be able to see motivation. You have a bright mind and I think the only thing you lack are years and experience. Keep trying to experience life and join clubs and groups, maybe even a local church, that can help you in your journey. I would advise finding an older church-going male to meet with to get advice from. Stay self-motivated and good job. This was a good quick watch. EDIT: The inclusion of CRT was unrelated and off-topic. Delete it please it had nothing to do with the video

I go to one of the best high schools in America and it's the same. Most of my bad grades are due to me not doing homework because I wasted so much time in school doing nothing. I started sitting into my friends classes just to fill up my day while I wait for the next class to roll around so I can sleep through that before I'm let out. If I had control over my schedule I would cut out so much. My math teacher is such a joke that I just do whatever I want and ignore him if he says to get off my phone and I exclusively learn from the homework and tutoring because he doesn't explain anything. He just gives us work and tells us to figure it out.

Hearig about yor drab school days makes me appreciate the school I went to. Though also helped by the fact I was educated in a three tier secondary school. It definetively isn't an ideal system, but it makes it easier for curriculum and teachers to be tuned to the individual skills of the pupil. As for your predicament, the establiseh system isn't at all designed to take the pupils feedback into account. I'd suggest to continue to educate yourself outside the system. Gather some peers and maybe augment your school days yourself. Depending on the teacher they might even be d'accord with you doing other stuf, as long as you manag your exams just fine. As for me, I'm atm at a verry interesting place education wise. I'm doing an internship with integrated academic education specific for the job. The way the school teaches has been changing evry time I went there for the past year and a half. At the moment we have a project we have to complete and present afterwards. The aim is to get the project done, if we want to, we can go into workshops to get some inputs specific to a project ajacend topic and to get our questions in with someone who has the info we need. Getting a fun education is highly dependant on how self-reliant and how motivated you are. Good Luck, you'll figure something out.

I stumble upon your video by chance. I think you are becoming more and more aware of how corrupted the world really is, and I give you a little advice: Don't think yourself superior to the one still blind to this depressing system. If you are hoping for a better future, then that future must be the future where people who you despise the most may thrive and live, as long as they don't harm the others. You, too, still have many unfair biases based on your limited experience, and you are not aware of yourself enough to realize them. Be curious and opened minded. It is not easy to fix the system that benefit the few in power. But if you have a strong connection to your community, it won't feel as hopeless as you feel now. If you have a lot of free time in school, I think it is time to think about the future. Not to alarm you, but even if you have a master degree, most people in the USA still has a hard time finding a job that pay above the poverty rate. It is hard to own a house without pre-existing wealth. Goodbye, and I hope you grow up strong.

Also, that “person” doesn’t exist, the structure is entirely self sustaining. Anyone who enters the halls of power with the intent to change it will quickly face the inevitable reality that it changes you more than you change it. Real politics is praxis, and whilst engaging with the mainstream policial establishment isn’t exactly a “waste of time”, it’s an errand few are truly prepared for, worse yet, it’s an errand that draws good people with good skills that could be much better deployed elsewhere. There are much more political actions with much greater depth of impact you can carry out than the illusory act of ticking a box every four years for red or blue. Process your grief but give yourself a framework to do it with so you can start thinking creatively.

The initial reason I started work on this video was because one of my amazing teachers suddenly resigned, leaving me with a relatively tiny daily workload as the substitutes had nothing to provide us (it was a history class and they mostly just came in to give us the standard American history spiel). The situation has improved slightly since I started writing the video a few months ago but I had 2-3 classes out of 7 a day that weren't a complete waste of my time, either not giving me any work or giving so little I was just sitting around at least 70% of it. I don't think the things I was and am being taught are pointless for the most part, just that it's provided to me incredibly slowly and painfully.

@Cpicy Cool! I ask because I didn't study high school in the U.S., and since a huge chunk of my family are teachers, I'm intrigued about what teachers can do to engage or disengage their students.

@@alexandredesouza3692 The best teacher I've ever had gave an assignment or two every week and spent all class lecturing, that's what kept me engaged.

Any movie that has high interpretability lacks thematic depth. These two components of a story exist on the opposite sides of a spectrum. In other words, the more ways you can interpret a story the less meaningful it is i.e. the less thematic depth that story has. You are misinterpreting the American psycho movie and you're not providing any evidence from the movie to support your interpretation. The fact that different interpretations of the American psycho movie exist suggests that it lacks thematic depth. The term "thematic depth" suggests that a movie provides a well-reasoned argument to support one or more of its themes, but you use the word "thematic depth" to say something I don't understand? Do you even understand what you're saying? I certainly don't and it's not because I'm unfamiliar with either the movie or David Graeber's work. This is a low quality video with a catchy title and an interesting premise. Please put more thought into your videos, and please use evidence from the movie (not from sources outside of the movie) to support your interpretation of the movie. You did not establish with clear logic and sound evidence that the American Psycho movie is about how Bateman's loss of agency is making him miserable. EVIDENCE MATTERS. Where is the evidence in the movie to support your argument? American Psycho is a poorly written movie and that's why it has a "million" different interpretations. The novel might be a poorly written novel, but I haven't read the novel to say with confidence whether that's really the case. Perhaps the novel has a more definite meaning, but you didn't bother to find out. Instead, you just connected material that's wholly unrelated to both the movie and the novel and then just asserted that there was some connection between the movie and the Bullshit Jobs book without any evidence whastoever. Why can't anyone reach the conclusion that if X movie or novel is ambiguous, it's because X movie or novel is a poorly thought out work of fiction? If you write a thesis paper on any subject at school, you will get a low grade, probably a D or even an E or an F, for writing a thesis with a highly ambiguous conclusion and arguments that are confusing and can contradict each other. But when a work of fiction is ambiguous we all say it's a masterpiece as if it's worth an A+. I think there's something wrong with the human species. You prioritize expressing your political perspective over making a cogent argument. That's why I'm not going to subscribe to your channel. Your channel is a waste of potential.

Exactly what I was thinking. This was a coersion of the mind through being "smart" and being "sigma." lacked a lot of structure but had potential

Who does bro think he is. This video is legit the mindset of that one guy who thinks he's smarter then everyone else, and tries to find deeper meaning; just finish your school work kid: the class isn't designed for the average student, it's designed for the slowest student. If you really want more work just self educate.
@cpicy
@cpicy Год назад
Claiming that classes are designed for the slowest student isn't true, I know people who can barely pass a single class. There are too many people who aren't being paced correctly, either too fast or too slow.

Also I think your mindset of "I entirely agree that a problem exists and I think you should stop complaining" is a primary driving factor for suffering in the modern world

I love American Psycho as a satire and clicked on this video immediately, I’m 15 seconds in and have no idea if it’s gonna dog on the movie lmao, edit: 6:17 you forgot about the gay theory, murder is like sex and him admitting to his lawyer is like coming out but people deny him, there’s a vid about it by Orowen and I think you should watch it!
