Anybody else notice the exchange between Seth and Sutton when he asks her what key she wants? He says, "In F?" She's surprised and says, "How did you know?" And Seth's response is, "Because I'm a terrific plumber." ??? The man knows his pipes...
It was just announced today that Sutton's going to star an off-Broadway revival of Sweet Charity for a limited engagement in November. This'll have to hold us over until then.
I actually found that really funny, because of course the over-used Les Mis song at audition is "On My Own", and Sutton actually played Eponine in the US Tour:P
The song here is “I Dreamed a Dream” and not the overused “On My Own.” 2 clues, “Anne Hathaway” and that the show she’s auditioning for is about a woman dying of cancer, hence her picking the song that she had wanted to showcase her emotional range
"If they could see me now, That little gang of mine, I'm eating fancy chow And drinking fancy wine. I'd like those stumble bums to see for a fact The kind of top drawer, first rate chums I attract. All I can say is "Wow-ee! Looka where I am. Tonight I landed, pow! Right in a pot of jam. What a set up! Holy cow! They'd never believe it, If my friends could see me now! They'd never believe it, If my friends could see me now!"
The funny thing is when they did this they just pulled this from when Suton Foster was actually on broadway and sang it for Sweet Charity. You can find that post on You Tube as well. She is really good and it was a treat to see her perform on occasion on ABC's Bunheads.
yea I also never understand why the auditors DON'T look at you. I don't really mind it because I know all I can do is express to the max so they look up sometimes, and I guess they see so many people that they don't want to look
i'm not sure. i tried googling. it somehow managed to air in norway, so hopefully it will air in the uk and build some kind of cult following there as well. maybe netflix will pick it up.
I have been reading plot summaries for an hour about Sweet Charity, a show which I have already seen, to see where I missed the bit about her having brain cancer smh I hate me
No, no, no, if I understand correctly the idea is that certain character is auditioning for some other show, in which the character she's auditioning for has brain cancer. Seth the pianist is rejecting her plan to be the umpteenth person who sings a really sad song from _Les Miz_ and suggesting instead that she sing this peppy song to give him and the audition judges a break, no matter how inappropriate it feels to her.
She wasn’t auditioning for Sweet Charity in this. Here she was a struggling actress auditioning for a show about a woman with brain cancer. “If My Friends Could See Me Now” was just her audition song. You can sing 16 bars of just about anything at an audition, it doesn’t have to be from the show you’re auditioning for.
What the other person said, with the addition that Sutton's character was simply objecting briefly to the idea of using a cheerful song to audition for some musical in which the character has brain cancer. Seth is saying never mind that, everybody's tired of that sad _Les Miz_ song she wanted to sing.
