And being a different genre is not an impediment for the statement. Could be totally coincidental, could be another's author take on the same concept but they're just way too similar

@@Carlos-ne3zf No, it's actually really different in a couple very obvious ways. Please lemme talk this one out, you be doing both series dirty here, i know it's kinda long, but bear with me. Obvious things right out the front: Monogatari Series is the systematic deconstruction of typical storytelling tropes executed on top of a supernatural concept that is based on different cultural and religous concepts; Ao Buta is a supernatural character drama that does focuses on fleshing out the individuals that are affected by the adolescence syndrome; bringing with it a lot to take away from every arc, while critisising japans harsh way of having the overall atmosphere of f.a. a school potentially hurting the individual. Mai's and Hitagi's arcs have no similarity at all beyond both beeing subjected to the kindness of one person with which they share witty exchanges. Hitagi is straight up threatening Koyomi to keep away from her, is convinced by Koyomi himself beeing a half-vampire, taken to see a third person that is actually knowledable in her problem, and finally has to confront the weight of her past to get the deity that stole her weight to disappear. Mai is not taking any steps against Sakuta until almost at the end of the arc, was already somewhat trusting him before even learning about the possibility of him helping her, learned about the condition of Sakuta's sister, and is not taken to anyone to help her. The third person in this case would be Futaba, who is not only not an expert in Mai's condition, but also someone who later turns out to also be afflicted by the syndrome. She is also not directly interferring with Mai's condition. Before the arc actually comes to it's climax (which it should at this point if it was any similar to Hitagi's), we see her syndrome getting worse, her trying to fix the problem by talking to her mom after actually confronting her feelings (which was the climax in Monogatari), Sakuta and Mai getting really close as friends (which didn't happen at this point in Monogatari), Sakuta figuring out what makes everyone forget Mai and lastly Mai choosing to let him forget her as to not cause him trouble. And the way the arc concludes is the literal opposite of Monogatari: Mai is already forgotten, the syndrom beat her. The one to save her is not she herself (beeing assisted to help yourself is also a common theme in Monogatari that Ao Buta doesn't dive into), but it is Sakuta, forcing everyone to aknowledge her existence by making her the center of the atmosphere. Thats just the first arc. And the longer you keep on going forward, the more obvious it gets. But it's not like Hajime Kamoshida was not influenced by anything. Mai's arc actually is inspired by another work; namely Kanon's arc in Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai. I suggest you check out that arc spezifically scince you can read/watch it without spoiling anything scince it is a girl of the week kind of story. The difference is that Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai only had that one okayish arc (which still is a farcry from what Kamoshida did with the concept) while beeing a completely incohesive, tasteless and unoriginal piece of storytelling garbage, while Ao Buta is pretty much trying to beat itself in writing the ultimate climax to a very coherent story (and the most threedimensional characters to ever be written in the light novel format, even getting the W against masterpieces like Oregairu from a critical view). I can't expect anyone to come to this conclusion on their own, especially because i can't expect someone to invest as much time into anime and storywriting in general as i do (i even have the time to write such a long argument on an online discussion, i got to much time on my hand), so i don't mean to insult you or anything like that, i just really, really love both these series and i really don't want to hear them getting thrown in the same corner of the room when they don't even live in the same city if you catch my garbage metaphore. Also sorry for the weird wording, i think this doesn't read itself very well... not a native english speaker :)

(You'll get the joke there if you start on it) There's a lot of debate on what order to watch it, but I'm in the camp that watching in broadcast order helps keep you interested by hiding the mystery of things going on and revealing it bit by bit. The "ah-ha, so that's why!" moments, if you will.
