Exmark has a new mower system out for 2019. The E & S series which has 6 different deck sizes on 2 different frames. Which Sounds overly complicated so I had the product manager from Exmark show us the differences between the mowers. That way if your in the market for a New mower you can figure out which one is right for you.

love the new Exmark mowers and the main reason i got one was to handle hills and to take up less space on the trailer. I did notice one thing that has been a bit of a pain. if you run the mower for enough time to heat up all of the moving parts and park it on a lawn (stop to talk to the customer) it will burn the grass. (maybe a idea for a future video)

Machines at this price range are bought by professionals, no matter which deck size, we require the same and best (FX) engine available, best air, dust, sand and leaf filtering system, and an adequate one handle deck adjustment. No matter servicing big fields, medium or small properties, we don't buy a 7000+ US$ mower for making a part time job to live from (half time would then be quart time considering seasonality!). For many folks, winter is hard, we need really to work full time (and overtime) in the summer. Also, talking of the E-series deck adjustment, maybe a 2 minutes total per client adjusting the deck, front yard area, possibly different level for the backyard, then possibly up for going on trailer, out of a total of maybe 15-20 minutes mowing likely a 8000 sq ft household client, is more than 10% of annual revenue opportunity loss in time wrongly spent each day bending around and adjusting the deck, instead of possibly taking and mowing each day let's say out of each pack of 10 customer yards, an 11th in that same given time. Exmark is playing too safe on features taken out from the E-Series in my opinion, but at the end, it comes back hurting very probably sales expansion (and thus pricing efficiency and reach) at the Staris E-Series application field, trying to save pennies, but then losing dollars?! .. Exmark needs to give more sense to the E-series Staris residential area units from this perspective of commercial use for people paying multiple times the price of the non-commercial residential area units, precisely because they are focused on being full time and fastest (one pass please) operators there, who expect and count on it for making a living working all day long (FX engine value) and want that added productivity (deck adjustment handle), where each minute and each motion we execute is repeated and multiplied multiple times and makes a real difference in the end of the day(s) and year(s) whether it has been optimized or not. I would like to see upgrades to the Staris E-series (options/integrated provisions for upgrades?) for 2020. Please! This could really help me buy one (36 inch), because otherwise the Staris has a lead for now in grouping all other design aspects I want to see concerning geometry and dimensioning, spindles configuration and deck travel, weight positioning, hydraulic choice and configuration, etc, in my engineering mind, looking for the best investment for productivity and durability. Cut quality and clippings dispersion also seem nice. On the longer term, the engineers from all brands will need to think of weight saving materials such as aluminium, (even plastic) and integrating more tubular profiles (to replace stifness coming actualy from thick and very heavy metal sheeting) and possibly combined even with thin stainless steel sheeting! At the deck, yes! ... Such optimisation can be achieved by differentiating the functions: holding the spindle is one function, making a cover is another, making a shield from abrasion is another, etc.. The E-series, by definition of their deck sizes, are "residentials', they need to be maximally light to preserve the topology of the ground and aesthetics of the grass. Residential areas being smaller and tighter (often vertically bordered) areas, it is unlikely that we can easily and efficiently alternate wheel's track patterns.. (French speaker from Laval (urban city next to Montréal), Québec, Canada, 36 years old, 35-45 customers at actual push-mowing physical limitations, 5 years of hard work to save for a transition / serious investment, actually all electric, plugged on customer's outlets, using locking plugs, 100ft cord, no problems, great air quality, reliability, ultra high durability, low cost operation and maintenance, customers: around 10% 7 days, 45% 10 days, 45% 14 days mowing frequency, averaging 1 hour per client with trimming, blowing, and car travel, I do use specific heights for each customer, based on the cutting frequency and general energy and growth behavior the specific area shows at every specific period depending on multiple factors, the goal being to be able to master them equally fast from one visit to the other and comparably fast for all customers, also not rare that I cut lower on the backyards for the same reasons, always bagging grass, saves major time in delivering clean final result : doing the work only once at each customer and at perfection from the first pass, city added brown 200 liters grass suitable compost bins to every household, collected weekly).

Lack of (easy) cut height adjustment on the smaller Staris is a fail. The new Wright Stander Model B is now available in a 32”, 36”, 48” and 52”, and all 4 come standard with their patented Rapid Height Adjustment system, which also doesn’t make you lean over near as far to raise/lower the deck. Best part is all are under $6,000 and have been beefed up to 7 guage deck.

Stan Mowers don't like going for Swims in Marshes. They also really are not ment to cut peat moss.

Stan, recommend me a prosumer mower for my 1 acre flat yard with some trees and misc obstacles. My JD z425 needs to go....underpowered with my powerflow bagger, only cuts decent going painfully slow. Looking for a more powerful robust machine to spend less time cutting. I need a quick mower with a nice cut. Want to get away from bagging all the time too. Central MN checking in here!

So my biggest problem with the starris is the engine over the hydro pumps and the exhaust running over your deck pulleys. Engine over the hydro sure try to give that on hill performance, but that is extra heat on the hydros. The exhaust on the pulley sure air is going over it, but the bearings are nongreasble now and that exhaust still emits heat. Think about the mower is on the trailer heat is emitting the pulley isn't spinning heat just sitting on it.

I was needing to replace a Toro grandstand 36 at the beginning of this season. I was very interested in the starris but couldn't give up the easy to adjust deck and the lower grade fs vs fx Kawasaki motor was a deal breaker for me. I ended up with a wright intensity and am very happy with it.

As a general question, for the lawn guys - do you chaps sharpen your blades regularly, treating them as a service item? I just have a smallish lawn and use a push rotary mower, and I notice a MUCH cleaner cut and a lot less rpm drop in heavy grass when I keep the blades sharp with a file or disc grinder. IIRC, one of the mower companies had fuel savings anything up to 20% over blunt blades that smashed, rather than cut, the grass - that would add up in a hurry for a business! Engine service life is going to depend a LOT on ensuring it is getting clean air and gets regular, good quality, oil changes (with oil filters if used). Personally, I like to change the oil after first usage, or so, as that is when much of the debris is produced. Same with engine overhauls, etc. Oh, regarding the tyre tread pattern and tearing up the grass - it is slippage that does the damage, so if an aggressive tread sticks it will do little damage but a slipping tyre is ripping the grass as it has a shearing action.

GordoWG1 WG1 every day check oil, hydraulics, every week I sharpen blades, clean mowers they get used around 25 hrs a week, oil changes every 100hrs clean air cleaner hydraulics every year

@@crankshaft1053 Thank you for your response. Different business, but I have been involved in fleet service and repair and am interested in how you found this planned maintenance to work out for equipment reliability and service life - I expect it actually saved you a lot in the long run?

Is there a benefit in the stand on vs sit on mowers?
@wq198mnr
@wq198mnr 5 лет назад
Joshua Anderson just depends what you like better. If you mow in areas where you commonly have to get off to pickup trash/litter/debris, I’d maybe go for a stand on unit since it’s much easier to dismount, grab debris and get back on. Getting off riding mower is obnoxious and nobody likes doing it every time there’s a branch or debris
@JanoyCresva
@JanoyCresva 5 лет назад
Gettign off and on a lot faster is a perk. If theres a big branch in the way it will take just a few seconds to jump off and move it out of the way. Generally lighter and easier to control.

Speaking of tire marks... Can you show off some airless tire work with the mowers? We recently demoed some stuff at a parks and rec conference (not Pawnee, sorry) and they wouldn't let us take it on the grass. Made me wonder why. I feel like your opinion on the matter would help me convince the guys at the top either way. Especially, since I started showing your videos to the guys.
