There are already a surplus of people that want to take our reptile-keeping rights away from us. Let's not give those people more of a reason, or add new people to the list. 👌

I'm looking forward to the 1 star review of anacondas. We sold them at the pet store I worked at in the 90s before I took over the reptile department and I was absolutely furious. I refused to sell them to people. Giant snakes should require permits, period. If you want one that badly, you should have to prove you're capable of giving it a good life.

Worst snake mishap I ever had involved driving. A 9 foot rat snake can tie your steering wheel to your gearshift pretty effectively. Always have a bucket or.. something.. if you're going to drive a snake to a new home.

We actually just got a Burmese male. hes only 2 months old, We already have his next enclosure ready to go , and plans to build the one after that around Christmas. We did a ton of research before bringing this guy home. We also have a few experts that we have to mentor us along this journey which I know a lot dont. This video is super informative for those who have no idea what they are getting into. Hes still settling in, but we start hook training and handling next week.

What a beautiful snake! Like many of us who love snakes, there's a special appeal to the giants, but I'd never have one for a pet. I really appreciate the calm, straightforward way you describe the potential dangers of trying to handle these guys. Your affection and respect for the animals shines through, but you make it clear that this just isn't a pet for most keepers. On a side note, I hope you'll do a video on the Indigo snake someday :)

My father owned a albino Burmese years ago and he just let it go around anywhere in the house. He would just fill up the bathtub halfway with lukewarm water and it would just sit in there all the time, it was the best pet we’ve had he slept with the snake and never had a problem

There was a wonderful man who volunteered at a summer camp I went to who had two beautiful Burmese Pythons. One was a very sweet 14ft albino named sweet pea. He would bring her out sometimes and let the oldest campers help handle her. He also had a few venomous snakes, but we obviously couldn't handle them. He was the one who sparked my interest in big reptiles.

I own two Reticulated Pythons, they are terrible pets for 99% of pet owners, Reticulated Pythons and Burma Pythons are only experienced snake owners with 4+ years of owning snakes already. I love Burmese pythons with all my heart and soul . They are lovely looking animals and astonishing to look at when full grown but they are terrible pets just like Asian Water Monitors. Good Video! I love how you stressed the cons and told people the complete truth. I own two Reticulated Pythons and I DO NOT recommend them at all as house pets. Reticulated Pythons are normally aggressive snakes, they eat a lot , they poop a lot, they average 12 feet long for males and females CAN grow up to 25 feet long rarely. Females usually 17 - 20 feet long. 300+ pounds has occurred it's possible for female Burma Pythons, African Rock Pythons and Sumatran Reticulated Pythons. They are GIGANTIC! The food bill is though the roof and they can kill you easily when in food mode once they are at least 8 feet long. That being said. I adore Reticulated Pythons and love my male/female pair of Reticulated Pythons. The 10 foot long plastic cage that an adult female retic needs is expensive. At least $900 for the adult enclosure. Same with burms.

Install underfloor heating with a thermostat! The nordics do it all the time in the bathroom to avoid having to step onto freezing cold floors after a shower. Just a thought.

Very informative video. I am an English teacher living in Cambodia and we found a baby burmese python living in my school. The locals wanted to eat it and I rescued it from being a meal. And I do feel that if I were to release him back he will eventually get caught and killed / eaten. I do know of an animal sanctuary that is out of the city that may be an option. But I am seriously considering keeping him/ or her as a pet.

I absolutely love berms, the ones I've known who have been handled were all sweethearts, and I've helped people get pretty decent sized ones (15ish foot was the largest berm) get used to being held. Even if they start off highly defensive (more helpful to keep in mind when a snake strikes it's a defensive act rather than aggressive one in most cases unless they honestly think your body part is food), I've found with daily work and proper care they tend to chill out relatively quickly. The hardest one I helped a friend work with was her slightly larger reticulated python her son never touched then abandoned with her. She couldn't handle him but wanted to do her best to keep him 'cause she felt it wasn't his fault. His enclosure wasn't the best size, but once he calmed down he was usually chilling outside it. I may love the actual giant snakes, but after a certain point size becomes the limiter, but it isn't just for size and danger level the way many think, after a certain size their feed animals get tricky. I mean- you can go to meat markets and farms to get prekilled animals telling them not to butcher the meat for you, but it gets tricky depending on where you live... even when they don't eat nearly as often as smaller snakes. I wouldn't want to get an animal who need to eat feed animals larger than a rat, ideally frozen/thawed- and I feel bad about that 'cause I love rats as pets... unless it was fish. Far easier to go to a fish market to get whole fish of varying sizes if you're anywhere near port cities. SO easy. So yeah- I'd sooner have an adult alligator where they can eat a wider range of meats and I wouldn't have to feed whole mammals and whole chickens consistently- though as any other reptile they need a varied diet, than a reticulated python- but to be fair, I wouldn't have alligators either. Though I have known someone with a young alligator and "he" was awesome- so the temptation when I was told one could be gotten for me if I wanted was greater than when I was offered a breeding pair of anacondas for free. Though won't lie- was actually tempted at the idea of them, my brain went to turning my basement apartment into a giant snake room with the sizable bedroom turned into a pool with a waterfall for them... then I thought "Nah- I really shouldn't own anything that could kill me..." and turned them down. Edited to add- yeah- that part with you telling people what to do is needed if you aren't with people who know- when I helped with larger snakes where it goes into "I may not die but my ribs are breaking if not other bones..." mode and up I just have an open bottle of Listerine or a strong drinking alcohol around in case something happened and I get incapacitated and seriously have seconds to get it off- I think what people forget or don't think of is every time you breathe out they constrict more, so when you try to breathe in again you can't and so on until... ugh- I hate the idea of hurting a snake, but alcohol is one of the "easier" ways with a high likelyhood of success of getting a snake disengaged- that and grabbing the tail and pulling back can make continued constricting much harder for them, if not impossible- depending on the size. Very very intentionally I've topped out my handling of the large snakes at 15 feet, I want 2 people with me at a min, esp if I know they're quirky- the alcohol of the non-rubbing kind uncapped and ready for someone to grab, and a phone close enough so 911 can be called. Only a few times I only had 1 other person, and a few times whoever was with me wasn't experienced. I have no interested with working with larger on any kind of regular basis...

I just want to say that I feel it's so under appreciated, but I absolutely love that in every video even if Clint forgets, the editing crew always add in a thermostat for any time Clint mentions a heat source. BTW Clint, loved the video snowflake looks to be such the sweetheart.

This channel deserves way more subs and views. Its such an informational channel. Lots better than some of the other reptile channels out there that just exploits these animals for views and have terrible husbandry and care. Good job clint. Hope this channel grows!

And while I may not have seen you from the beginning, but I am a huge fan of your work. I love each and every one of your videos. Which is why I wrote this letter. This year I was having a rough time with life, depression, and just feeling empty. But your energy, and your videos have really helped. They made me feel like I could do something in life and something to look forward to. Every Saturday morning and now Wednesday noons I watch your videos as a tradition. And I thank you for that. Your videos are really fun to watch. And at the end of them I learn a lot about the topic. I especially enjoy learning in topics I know nothing about like genetics. I appreciate how you remain unbiased and don’t attack people like others have, such as when you covered spider balls and the snake housing video. Your positive energy is awesome. On Amazon they have 20x48 inch seedling heat mats that are far more affordable than reptile heat mats. Just make sure you always use a thermostat with any heat mat.

I got my first Burmese Python over the weekend. She's a hatchling, barely 1 foot right now. I will have to get a restricted reptile permit when she hits 12' but worth it! I have 3 Ball Pythons, one Regular, a Banana, and a Pinstripe as well as a Snow Corn Snake that unfortunately has corkscrewing issues. But they are all healthy and happy and eating well. So a Burmese is my next step (they're also my favorite snake). I plan on hopefully starting a reptile rescue/zoo outside of my house one day. I had one as a child. Excited to have one of my own now.

I raised one burmese who was careful even around the scent of food. I could even put hand that had been holding a rabbit against his nose to guide him away from the two other snakes eating in the same cage. I never had a better rapport with a burmese or any other species of snake.

I really appreciate how candid you are talking about the pros and cons of the various reptiles you showcase. I can feel your love and appreciation for them AND the cautious respect (sometimes nervousness) for these animals.

They are my favorite snakes ever, ever since I went to a serpentarium and had a Burmese of that exact color look into my eyes like she wanted to know more about me and her eyes LIT up when I started talking to her. They are so curious and are very easy to tame, but I will never be able to keep one because of as you said they make a bad pet for most keepers. Very very impractical. I have a dwarf rabbit, enough said.

The Indian Python is basically the same snake, maxes out at 12ft. I also hear many Burm Breeders say most of their snakes stay much smaller, even females, than 15ft. Probably depends how their fed, like Boas. People overfed boas for the longest time so we thought 12-14ft boas were common. Turns out we were almost double feeding them as babies lol.

I have a 19 ft Retic and he is the most chill snake... I'm not a breeder so I just have the one, but as he has grown, he has if anything become more chill. He has a bedroom and bathroom to himself where he showers and bathes. He also has an 8ft commercial cage with a heater if he wants to be cozy.

I would love to see a video about blood pythons! Also, I'm curious about your stand point when it comes to many of the hybrids that have been created in the snake/reptile industry, particularly whether you think they can be healthy captives and should continue to be bred. I remember in 1996 the wrestler Jake "The Snake" Roberts in his final run in the WWF had an albino burmese python called Revelations.

Used to have a Burmese. He was as sweet and mellow as a giant snake could be. I brought him home from the pet store as an 8', year and a half juvenile. Over the next 7 years raised him to a 13 foot beauty. In all that time, he never lived in a cage, he always had his run of the house. Broke my heart to have to part company with him when I had to move and couldn't take him with me.

I bought a Burmese Phyton when I was in college and had it for a long time. It was about 8 feet long, and I never had it in a cage as it pooped in the same spot and never showed aggression to any human. Not even a hiss. One day I bought a big live rabbit to feed him. It was 5 or so pounds. It ate it and curled up like it always did. Then I usually picked it up and put the snake in the shower to digest. I often ran warm water over him too to wash off the rabbit fur or anything that was on him. This snake roamed free around my bedroom and would actually move in and around my bed while I slept. It would put its body along mine I guess to get warm too. The morning after I fed that big rabbit I was going to get in the shower, and I forgot the snake was still there digesting. I tried to pick up the coiled snake and put it in the sink, and it put its open mouth on my arm. It didn't bite down, just placed its teeth on me. When I tried to get my wrist free for some reason predator mode kicked in and this snake attacked me. My wrist started to bleed, and I was like ok wtf do I do now. I'm naked in the bathroom with an 8ft Phyton wrapped around me. I tried to get its mouth off my wrist for about 30mins and resorted to all kinds of means. This snake would not release! I won't share the rest of the story because it is too sad, but my point is reptiles are unpredictable. Their primitive brains are incapable of many things. Pet lovers should know that their reptiles do not feel affection or love. The reptile brain is limited to safety. Your reptile can only at most not view you as a threat and that is it. Sometimes they get confused.

As an Ontarian, my city (it goes by city laws in Canada) doesn't allow ANY constrictors to be owned or sold. Which means you can't get the basic ball python as a pet snake in my city, but then if I were to travel to Toronto, which is only an hour away from me, I can actually own Constrictors. The reason why this is a huge thing for us, is that out in Edmonton (I believe) two boys under the age of 10 (8 and 9?), were in the home of one of the boy's family (once again, it's been a long time since I've heard this story so I'm not entirely sure of who's home it was). The boys ended up sneaking into the basement where the man kept his large constrictors. Well they took out one snake (an African rock python) and the snake quickly overpowered the both of them, and they ended up dying from being choked out by the snake. Since that incident, Canada as a whole, decided to allow municipalities to decide if they were going to allow people to own constrictors or not. Of course, fulled by nothing but fear, my city was part of the ban on pythons and large constrictors (unless you have them in a zoo/educational setting and have a permit to keep them). The only snakes that can be purchased from a store are Colubrids, which is okay, but like a ball python isn't even going to do much damage to someone, they should have classified them under a non-threatening snake We can't even get sand boas here...SAND BOAS! I understood that, yes those two kids died, but they were also old enough to know better than to be alone with a massive snake, and the owner should have had that basement under lock and key.

One thing I will say about this video is though is that I don't recall any mention of the lifespan of giant snakes, which is VERY noteable and relavent. Correct me if you did and I just missed it.
