I keep saying in order for Kenya to industrialize, no need to focus and compete with the big boys in high tech manufatcuring, the best niche market with the most consumers is the bottom of the pyramid which is the largest market in the world. Something as simple as an effecient jiko is a gold mine. Think about it. Globally, there are more people who cook with firewood and other sources of fuel than electricity because electricity is costlier. So if you make a jiko that uses much less fire wood or charcoal and make it affordable the problem you will have is meeting the demand of that market. So burn manufacturing is killing it. They can not meet demand with the Kenya factory alone so they have to build other plants in other countries to meet demand. The bottom of the pyramid market products is what Kenya needs to focus on and create products that are efficient and less costly. Basically what Kenya needs to do is modernize the jua kali industry who make products for the BOP market which is a 5 trillion dollar market. Just use Burn as template. Products that are in demand are agriculural equipment like dryers, processing machines like milling, value addition machines for the BOP market tha can be used by small scale businesses who other wise can not afford the indusrtial machines from big companies. Just make your machines efficient, easy to use and cheap.
