The Sims franchise has been around for nearly 24 years, so it's only natural that the feeling of burnout would show its face eventually.
In this video, I'll be talking about my personal experience of being burned out with the Sims 4 and how I think we can remedy the feeling of burnout within the Sims franchise.

Sims 4 has been my escape place lately, I lost both my parents this year and sims has helped me. I belive I am burned out for other reasons , But I have days when I dont know what to build or play , then I just take a break and do other things I love to do. But the last day I have (since the livestream of the new pack) I have feeling sad, I have been called brainwashed for saying we like different things and some of us love sims and som dont. And thats ok . But that has made me sad that there are ppl out there that can go so far with writing har things just beacuse ppl dont agree with them

something that stops me playing the sims 4 is how long it actually takes with the what seems like never ending loading screens to get into my actually family to play with. by the time it gets to the gameplay, i no longer feel like playing.
@Plumbie

This I can relate to so much! When I used to play on a mini Mac, it would take around 15 minutes just to load into the game.

I give myself a lot of time between playing the game for this exact same reason. This game just doesn't hold my attention as much as it used to. When a new pack comes out, I get super hyped, but then after a while I just sort of forget about the game altogether to focus on other things. I'm not a Sim RU-vidr, but I do have a RU-vid channel of my own where I share my art, travels, and other life stuff. I always have this feeling of guilt when I'm painting or enjoying the nature and think "I should be filming this...". It's honestly a pretty horrible thing that has happened with all this "hustle culture". At the end of the day, the purpose of our lives is not to create content, but to truly enjoy this short time we have. If you're not enjoying something, don't force yourself to do it just for the sake of content. ...Sorry to get existential, but that's just where my thoughts have been lately. 😅

I love this comment so much! I 100% agree that our purpose is to not create content, but to enjoy the time we have; You worded that perfectly!

Yes! They have given us the packs we asked for, but they don't live up to our expectations. I like to be inspired to play, and breaks are perfect for that if the game doesn't deliver.

This is a great video. Expecting a game to be entertaining for hours a day, weeks, months, and years on end is too tall a task for just about any game. I could not tell that this was your first scripted video, I was in high school theater, so I tend to notice those things. You did a great job
@Plumbie

I 100% agree that we can't expect the sims to keep us entertained for such long periods of time! Thank you so much, I appreciate it.

Plumbie re: (00:32) ‘The only time I open the game is when I have a video to record.’ - Basically this. It’s interesting to see what we can do with mods/cc, or playing with editing, music, etc. That’s really the only reason we open the game. For us it’s a paintbox.
@Plumbie
@Plumbie 7 месяцев назад
I love how you compared it to a paintbox because that's almost exactly how I see the game! I use it as a creative outlet to tell stories, work on my editing skills, voiceover skills and writing skills. That's the main reason I love the Sims franchise because it inspires us to be creative.

i absolutely love hearing your thoughts about this game and you have a lot of good insight!! i've been playing the sims 4 since demo and i feel i've definitely become less excited overtime. i have some old privated sims 4 videos and i rewatched them, it was like a breathe of fresh air. i was happy and immersed in the game for hours, i realized the difference between old me and present is that i post my content online. i feel pressured to do things and it's made it unenjoyable sometimes. i made a new save where i made a pretty sim and did everything childhood me wanted to do and that made me so happy. it was the most fun i've had in a long time. playing the sims for YOURSELF is something i feel we forget sometimes.
@Plumbie
@Plumbie 7 месяцев назад
It's very important to take a step back sometimes and look at what we used to do to feel more like ourselves in the present moment! I'm so glad to hear that you've been enjoying the game for yourself. Thank you for this comment!

i’ve also been very burnt out from the game. took a break for a couple months then recently got back into it. it is inevitably a cycle for- safe to say, all simmers and all games. sims especially sims 4, is like an open canvas and it requires a lot of imagination & creative stuffs n we can’t possibly have it every single day so it’s easy to feel burnt out. and your advice is simply applicable for many things actually, taking a break is the best remedy. though i can say when i’m not burnt out and i’m immersed into the game, it’s the feeling like never before. feeling burnt out is one thing, but when you feel the opposite of it, it’s just the besttttt feeling =)

I agree completely, it’s when I’m on vacation, or otherwise unable to play, that I have the most new ideas and the strongest urge to play, it’s a game that needs your creativity and creativity isn’t infinite, it requires refueling from other sources, whether you love painting, writing or creating things in a game you have to get input from other places or simply let your mind relax for a time.
@Plumbie
@Plumbie 7 месяцев назад
This is so true! I've come up with most of my sims stories when doing something other than playing the game. And not just with the sims, but with any other creative endeavour.

Really loved the video and i do have a psychological explanation. You see, humans are very interesting people and it is normal for us to evole and changing our interests from time to time is a very good and a healthy thing (Elvolving) . If you don t feel like doing something , you just dont do it. You can t force yourself and there s no point in doing so because it causes unecessary stress. I m also trying to get back into sims 4 because it s been a while since i last played it on my own. And here s a little tip. Just in case you feel burned out of the sims 4, what worked for me is literally playing the sims 3 and exploring the game. It is so much fun and whenever i feel down or just sad the sims 3 is my therapy somehow. We get tired of the same things over and over again and spicing it up might do the trick. But unfortunately there is no cure as to just accept the burn out and focus on something else
@Plumbie
@Plumbie 7 месяцев назад
I've found that playing the sims 3 also makes me want to play the sims 4 too! A couple of months ago, I went through a streak of only wanting to play ts3; it took over my mind day and night. But after a few days of playing it, I felt inspired to open ts4 and make videos on it. Thank you for this comment!

I just started my sims channel about 7 months ago and I only play the save files that I record for my channel. Because I am a mom, and teacher and a wife, I’m a busy lady so when I get the chance I batch record as many videos as I can and I close out my game and don’t play for weeks. It makes me miss my sims families and make me want to play more.
@Plumbie
@Plumbie 7 месяцев назад
This is exactly what I have been doing for years, and still do so much, despite trying to play the game in my own time. With RU-vid and the Sims, it's either one or the other, and most of the time, we will choose to create videos because (at least for me) it's more important than playing the game without recording it.

Very well said ❤️ this is why I play all kinds of games (and have another channel dedicated to them - Molpe Games), the variety is a great prevention to burn out, but even then I know the feeling of being burnt down by the sims 4, especially with all the glitches, bugs etc. I also switch to older sims games from time to time. Thank you for this video, glad to see you're OK ❤
@Plumbie

Thank you!Switching to older sims games almost always re-lights the spark of motivation that I have for the franchise in general. I find that when I play ts3, it oddly makes me want to play ts4 as well.

Burned out? Pssss how could I get burned out with my building simulator 😢😢😢 Ngl, it's all I've been doing despite wishing to play, but when I open it, I build, and build, and build.
@Plumbie
@Plumbie 7 месяцев назад
That's so understandable! The Sims 4 is excellent for building; gameplay, on the other hand, is lacking a lot.
@debradavis3935
@debradavis3935 7 месяцев назад
That’s why I play other games alongside the Sims. I play Stardew, I like RPG’s, even play a few MMO‘s. I tend to rotate about six months on the Sims in about six months on other things that’s why my gameplay saves take years to work through and I’m happy with it that way it’s really hard when you’re content creator though and you decide you don’t wanna play the game that you built your channel on anymore. I’ve seen a lot of simmers go down that road and end up having to leave their channels behind.
@Plumbie
@Plumbie 7 месяцев назад
Rotating between different games is 100% the route to take. When I'm not working on my channel and find some free time for gaming, I usually pick up another game to have a breather from sims. I'm the same with my sims families (especially Honeybrew) because it takes me years to get to generation 5 of a legacy, but as you do, I don't mind it because you can connect more with the sims family.

My approach to The Sims is the same as my approach to playing Dungeons & Dragons. I dislike One Shots, I only play Campaigns that are meant to last at least 6 months. And in Sims, whether I'm playing 2, 3, or 4, I'm always doing some type of challenge. Currently I have two legacy challenges going on both 2 and 4 at the moment. I don't like just making a new save and just seeing where things go. If I don't have long-term plans for my sim family I just can't get invested into it.
@Plumbie
@Plumbie 7 месяцев назад
I think this is a great approach! It sounds like you have a great system in place to keep you invested in the game.

I completely agree to take a break. I think as humans our hobbies and interests naturally come in waves. I cycle through the games I love throughout the year. At one moment I will play a certain game nonstop and then fizzle out of it. I think that’s the magic of it. I can’t imagine something being as fun as it is if we devote time to it nonstop
@phyrephoenix3230
@phyrephoenix3230 7 месяцев назад
Interestingly I do this naturally... I will play sims for months on end and then randomly just don't play for a while and then slowly just begin to play again. I was listening to your advice and then it just occur to me that I have been doing that since I began playing sims 2... 😄
@Plumbie
@Plumbie 7 месяцев назад
I have a similar cycle with games like Skyrim and Stardew. I think, as humans, we can't do the same thing over and over again for too long, so we go and do something else for a little while before coming back to our previous activity.

I have all four sims games, so I will litterally switch games. I also have other games I play, mostly on the nintendo switch. Mario Kart is fun for example without demanding too much from me. Just drive the track and try to win. 😊

main problem with the sims 4 is that is too easy. too many rabitholes, too many text boxes and so much more

Yes! I've noticed recently there are way more text boxes. I find that I spend most of gameplay just reading things instead of actually doing things with my sims.

Oh my gosh I was burnt out so badly this year! But I started the Not So Berry challenge and my Mint generation had TRIPLETS after having 2 other kids so it got chaotic VERY quickly lol. Been having a lot of fun since then🥰 You don’t have to force yourself to play Plumbie, not for us. You should play for yourself, the videos you make should be something you want to do as an added bonus that you also enjoy. 🩵
