In "The Blame Game", Taryl goes over how to rebuild this burned up Echo back pack blower. He'll show you step-by-step just what to do in order to get this thing running correctly and also dial in the carburetor. Before and After the fix, local grandpa Gary stops in with his smashed up lawn mower that he blames on his grandson Little Johnny. The real story comes out once Taryl starts asking a few questions and Johnny can't help but tell on grandpa. These classic characters return in another funny, yet dead-on accurate how-to video from your pals at Grass Rats Garage. And as always... There's Your Dinner!!

I've noticed a big change when it comes to fixing a two-stroke. I watch a lot of repair videos on RU-vid. And in most cases the person doing the repairs end up buying a new carburetor instead of fixing the one on the machine. I personally tried to do everything possible not to buy a replacement carburetor. Around where I live it's almost impossible for people to find any place to repair any small engines. I fix family and friends and neighbors lawn equipment all the time. The only thing I ever charged them for are part and oil and filters. I was forced into early retirement after breaking my back. To give me something to do I work on small engines and since I really don't need the money I don't charge for fixing thing unless it cost me. I enjoy watching your videos. Look forward to the next one.

Anyone wishing to perform a pressure test or leak down test without a tool like Taryl uses can still do it as long as they have a compression tester. Ya need to remove the schrader valve in the compression tester's rubber hose connection. Will have to use the pull starter or electric starter to build up pressure. And there's your Whoop!

Electric might be okay for some homeowner small yards or stuff like that but anything with any size to it is going to have to be gas and all commercial stuff will continue to be gas. I don't agree with the electric Revolution as far as expensive yard equipment. People are less capable nowadays in their ability to fix even simple stuff and that's why they are switching to Electric.imo

You are my new best friend. I have a PB500 that probably needs some loving touches. The throttle is sticky and it doesn't want to idle down. I haven't begun the quest but having your video gives me some invaluable insights into my machine. I bought it new some 5-8 years ago. I've used Echo oil and measured the amount. Right now I know it needs an air filter and now suspect it needs new fuel lines/filters, etc.

Good ol stratospheric heads. Done for low emissions and good power output with leaner mixtures. Issues with them are that they are sensitive and if one of the reeds are going bad or won’t seal right, they will run like crap. The carb also has to be pretty dead on for tuning or they will also run like crap. The zenoah gz series engine run stratos and more newer models are going that route as well for emission purposes.

A little loctite trick I learned working on red dot sights. Tiny little allen head screws loctited in and terrified I was going to break the screw. I took a long handle allen wrench like you are using, put it in the head of the screw and used a pencil torch to heat the allen wrench shank. The heat traveled down the shank to the screw without damaging the red dot sight housing and it came loose easily. I've used it several times since and it always works.

He's right about just buying a new carb. Back in 2015 when I got my PB500 (used), only OEM carbs were available @ $70 & up. Now aftermarket units are out there at less than $15 in some cases. And in my experience, they have worked fine.

I wish one of the penetrating oil manufacturers would come up with one that could dissolve the galvanic corrosion that occurs where steel and aluminum meet. I found that giving the bolt or screw heads a tap with a heavy hammer works to break the bond and loosen 'em up. In torx and allen head bolts/screws, I use a punch that just fits, so I don't damage the heads. I have philips screwdrivers with the shaft going all the way through the handle and use those the same way I use the punches. If the philips head screws have been damaged, tapping 'em with a hammer, then using the screwdriver works wonders. Always careful not to strike too hard and damage the aluminum threads. That's why I use a heavy hammer. Easy to give 'em the correct amount of impact without much effort or repeated strikes.

Another thing with modern carburetors on these machines. They are cheaper made. The seats in the high and low speed get worn out by wrong fuels such as ethanol based or methanol based fuels. Also overtightening the screws when seating them also causes damage. Best for a new carb at times. Plugged and crudded orfices as well can cause issues especially if they're caked real bad. If carburetors have Welsh plugs those can become loose as well ( most carburetors don't have that anymore because the bodies are a sealed unit). Great video

On the carb mixture screws I use a cut off wheel to cut slots in the steel screws so I can use a regular small screw driver to adjust the mixture screws. Many times just a small adjustment and the engine runs fine. A lot Cheaper than the special driver. The housing is aluminum so it cuts easy enough and doesn't hurt it
