In "I'll Never Tell", Taryl takes on this old Dayton generator that's been sitting un-used for 30 years! What will it take to get this old beast back up and running again? Find out here.
Before and After the fix, Little Johnny gets rid of Grandpa's mower and the only way he'll get it back is if Grandpa buys him a '68 Schwinn Stingray. Flustered, Grandpa Gary has no other choice to give in to Johnny's demands in order to get his mower back. In another hilariously scary how-to video starting off Taryl's 2023 Halloween series. Now There's Your Dinner!!

I think all these videos should be added to the Library of Congress to preserve all this information. That way in 200 years if somebody pulls one of these motors out of a box and wants to get it running they will know what to do.

Taryl always makes it look easy. One thing I will point out was setting the speed to 3600 rpm. We want the output to be at 60 Hz = 3600 rpm, but mechanical governors will sag under load, so setting the no load speed to 61.5-62 Hz allows for that, and will, hopefully, keep you above 58 Hz under full load.

Thanks Taryl and amazing Crew! Another great video! I just got a free from a friend DYNA DX4500E with an 8HP Briggs Engine which is a bit newer than this one but I learn so much from watching your videos ~. If other subscribers have worked on a DYNA DX4500E or similar, feel free to post any tips. The unit runs but I need to go through it; has a partly corroded gas tank (top half) and the electric start and recoil start need some Love ~ There's Your Dinner! D

I had almost the same unit with the 8HP Briggs. I got it running great but those updraft carbs are a royal pain. And that filter under the tank was a disaster. And it was super loud and plowed through gas! But gas was cheap back then. And just owning a generator was a luxury for wealthy people back then. All that noise was a testament to your neighbors that you had power!

Pretty crazy to see points and condensers in 2023. A lot of that equipment got the Magnetron upgrade when it was in the shop for any kind of service - and that was back in the early 80's. A testament to many of the Breaks and Scrap'ems that never needed more than basic maintenance that could be done by the consumer.

We had one of them heavy as a battle ship generators back when I was doing drywall in the 80's.. We had a horrible show storm while we were spackling this house way up in the mountains and my genius boss decided to plug in this space heater he ad just bought it. I'll never forget that loud bang and that metallic clunking sound as part of the crank shaft ricocheted off the side of side of his truck and then the house!!!! We saw a yellow flash and then a big orange fireball came rolling past the front window of the house. We laughed it off on the way home which was a Friday. We spent all weekend driving around to equipment places to try and score another used generator which we did... $800 even back then the damn things were expensive. We got a used Honda and that thing held up really well. It was the first time I seen a Honda generator as well. I also remember my boss trying to get someone to come fix the old one which ppl laughed at him!!!! I thought it was funny too because not only was the motor in a dozen pieces it was scorched from the little explosion too...

I have two 1980's Lincoln welders with 16hp Briggs and that style carb on them. I hate those carbs because of that main jet. They're almost always stuck. I've had better luck using a long hollow ground bit than a standard wedge ground screwdriver. Just have to make sure there aren't any edges to catch and damage the threads. The alternator portion of that machine will still be good in another fifty years or more. They might not be light, but they were built to last. Might be worthwhile to repower it with a newer OHV engine.
