I've gotten 4oz oil tan that firm before. Actually it was a $30 side special from Springfield. Just call Springfield and place your order over the phone. They will go hand pick what you need. I've had amazing luck with their cheap leather. $30 for a side? Hard to beat that price
Hey thanks for the good video. Any tips to remove tokonole spills on porous leathers? I tend to overspill my edges sometimes... any way to save the project when this happens? Thanks in advance!
Poorest Leather, thanks that was the word I was looking for. I’ve had good luck with using Liquid Glycerine Saddle Soap by Fiebings to remove the overspill. It will darken a bit at first but after a day it will go back to somewhat normal. Do a test run on some overspill on a scrap piece of leather first and check it out a day later
Hello. Thanks for sharing knowledge. One question, i use to paint the edges...Do you recommend painting the edges before or after applying tokonole? Peace.
I don’t paint the edges, I do from time to time use some regular leather colors dye to darken the edges. I like the dye the edges first then use the tokonole.
Thanks, no I didn’t. It’s from Crimson hides out of Singapore. They were the makers of the stitching irons that I bought so I added that to the order. Very nice I’ll see if I can drop the link crimsonhides.com/products/sand-block
I’ve been looking for a leather that color to make wallets journal covers and keychains. Should I get that chrome tan or is there somewhere where I can get a veg tan that looks like that
You can find oil tan just like this. Or you can get pre dyed or dye your own veg tan (better option IMO) but if you wanna do it on the cheap, call Springfield and get one of their $30 sides. Just tell them what you want over the phone and they will pick it out for you. I like them for cheaper leather. If you want the best, I say go with Rocky Mountain Leather Supply. Never gotten something bad from them
Im trying to burnish a single chrome tanned leather (not two pieces glued together) and i cant seem to get rid of the fuzziness on the edges. Have tried sandpaper & tokonole but I could still see a bit of fuzz/lint on the edge. Any tips?
Hi there, couple things you could try. First one is after putting it on let it sit for a few minutes. The other thing is what are you using to burnish it? I like using a piece of canvas, that works the best for me. Also it depends on the temper of the leather. If you’re using a piece from the belly area that is really spongy that’s going to be difficult to burnish. The good thing about a single piece if you don’t have to sand it, after using a sharp blade and getting a good cut just use an edger to knock down the edge and apply the tokonole, wait 4-5 minutes then use Canvas or a piece of old blue jeans. Hope this helps
Yeah, just try not sanding it. On that single piece all that sandpaper is doing is just roughing it up and fraying the fibers out. Change your blades often to get a great cut
@@LeatherHeadReviews ouch i did a mistake in sanding them then, i sanded to smoothen the round corners :( i used a piece of denim fabric to burnish them
Depending on the thickness of the leather determines what edger you should use. On 5 ounce I just use a number 2 Ron’s edger. It knocks the sharp edge off nicely
Hi, thanks for your video. May be you know what type of leather is timberland Kendrick shoes. I don’t know what cream to use to care leather. Please, help me..
@@rustyjames8029 , i looked up 'polishing beveler', best I saw was a video on someone elses channel. I don't put links for a competing channel on utube channels, but you can search for that and find it for yourself. Thanks
Funny you say that, I bought the canvas dropcloth from Walmart. It didn’t work that well, it was a little too soft and loosely woven. I need to buy some untreated canvas from Amazon, I think it was like nine dollars for a square yard. Much thicker and stiffer and does a much better job
@@LeatherHeadReviews Like i said i bought it at Harbor Freight. I also wrap the canvas around my wood slicker and have the smoothest edges i ever had , after sanding the edge of course
