look up the babbling book and your hat; theres a few other ones i forgot the name to but those got me hooked and wanting more. i love their sense of humor, brand of comedy it's so casual and feels a lot more natural than stuff we got today. also a skit called nothing but nerves similar time period different actor but it's hilarious, robert benchley...

My guess is that they tried this for a few years a long time ago and they kept jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge after tangling with Gracie! I'd rather tangle with a hog snake in South Texas. Dang. Karl

I disagree about the comedy being gentle. It's usually quite sexual and adult, it's just subtle. Like the tax man saying 'you're having fun with me' and Gracie saying "not unless my husband comes along we're not"

Oh, she is (was?) famous, but recall that she retired from film and TV in the 1950s. There are LOTS of major stars whose names we wouldn't even recognize now. From what I've read, her career started on the vaudeville stage, transitioned to film and to radio, and then in the ear y 1950s to television. Although after Gracie retired, George continued his career for decades-- until he was nearing 100 years of age. Gracie said she had had enough, that trying to learn that funny, nonsense dialogue meant she was reading scripts and learning lines almost nonstwhat I thought was the entire series, episode by episode on cable TV. These early episodes with the cutaway house, though, were not part of the run.

That might have required a court order a long time ago. It was always rare it ever happened. I can't give you any assurances about over 80 years ago. Now they have most of the data from employers/pension plans/retirement accounts so no worries unless you cheat. Karl

With digital methods of currency they no longer need to other than a property assessor looking at the building's state and condition. In this regard, many US states require a house or real estate be assessed every so many years to avoid arbitrary raising of taxable value. In practice it's usually raised arbitrarily anyway. With credit and debit cards and digitized banking, the government knows what you're buying and where. With digitized direct deposits, they know what you earn. I trade stock frequently, for example: the broker is reporting my trades by software sending digital documents automatically so I couldn't cheat even if I wanted to.
