Burrell traction engine 3529 heading home from a week in Waimate. 3529 was built in 1913 and is an 8NHP 3 speed, Double Crank Compound and is owned by the Winter family in Cave, South Canterbury.
Excellent! I was almost expecting to see two more trailers behind; fuel, water and crew; the food and galley cart, and lastly, the stinky! No nice tar sealed roads then, either, although the South Island had a good share of those because of the abundance of river metal. I recall dad timing an Ab loco on the Plains at 50mph from the Wolseley 6/80!
