A short film featuring Burrell 3918 which Ken owned from 1966 to 1984. The engine needed work before it could be rallied and the first clip was an early outing to the Craven Heifer pub off Grassington Road, Skipton. I was on the back and was just 3 years old. Another clip shows the engine heading down Skipton High Street with John Crowther at the wheel. Both these early clips show the engine without its' Deborah' nameplate which was later added to the base of the chimney. The last clip shows the Burrell exiting the Engine shed (which was situated behind the Recreation Ground at the top of Raikes Road) once again with Dad's friends Alwyn Rogers and Ted Mell in charge taking the engine to Gargrave Show in 198. The engine is seen coming down Sour lane through Thorlby near Stirton. The Gargrave show footage can be viewed on another film but I have included the last clip showing the 3918 coming back over the recently completed bridge on White Hills lane. The concrete is clean and new and the bypass will not be opened until later that year - December 1981. With the development of Higher Raikes it would be difficult to get this view of the Bridge from what is houses on Higher Raikes drive. I'm sure homeowners may be interested to see this view with a traction engine passing over an incomplete bypass! Thanks for watching and please feel free to comment. Thank You.

An excellent film of Kens lovely engine over the years, we attended many local events and always had the pleasure of roading it there and back. Skipton Gala, Embsay Railway and Broughton Hall Game Fair were other events we attended. Thanks for putting it together and posting.

I have noticed 'Deborah' has changed hands a few times in recent years. I think it is now in Irland. I was wondering what year your family sold the engine, tough decision as it was part of the family. Is that Mr Rogers the fellow who maintained the mill engine at Queen Street Mill. We are so lucky people like your father took footage to make films, I am sure he wouldn't have thought there would have been of such interest in the future, as they now are. Cheers M.

It's now in Kent I believe. Posted some pics on your fcbk page. Alwyn was still at the Mill part time. Not sure whether it has closed its doors yet.

Hi Michael, yes that's me on the footplate with Ted Mell from 2.40 onwards. I retired from the mill 18 months ago and the engine hasn't run since. I'm 'on the books' to carry out any training on the engine in future should I be needed.
