Burt appears on the show to promote his film "City Heat" with Clint Eastwood, tells some Hollywood stories, and is quizzed on food prices at his new restaurant.
Burt is just pure entertainment, self deprication, humour and charisma all in the one package. Could listen to his stories all day...such life experience
He had such a delightful sense of humor - rather self deprecating but so natural & endearing. Loved him - yes, he was very underestimated as an actor. ❤
The interview is so good, I feel like I should be paying to watch it instead of current talk shows...where I feel like I should be the one getting paid to watch.
This. I dont know where i got the idea that he was stuck up and arrogant. He really wasnt. I loved the Bandit series, Deliverance and My name is earl where Burth Reynolds played Norm Mcdonald!
@@chocloditelensman That's why he titled it, "But Enough About Me." I guess that's the one you are talking about. He did have another book titled, "My Life."
Not really underestimated, when he was young he was immensely popular; on a level with Clint Eastwood. He was a huge movie star. If you mean, his talent was not always recognized, that may be true. He should have won the Oscar for Boogie Nights.
patricia S - I think the problem with his career, although successful, was he took too many “goofball” rolls. Too much comedy. If he took more serious rolls, like he did in the movie “Deliverance,” I think he would’ve been even more successful. Side note: He should’ve got an ironclad prenup with Loni Anderson.
What a fantastic interview! No one was better in that chair. He always gave it as he saw it. Such a funny, kind and underrated talent he was. Thanks to Dave for being smart enough to simply guide the interview and just let Burt talk.
He was a good interview...the gal he scored with was Lori Nelson...not an A list girl, but incredibly beautiful!...As for Burt--he was charming, but often abusive to women...Inger Stevens might have committed suicide over his raw treatment of her, by him.
I watch as many things as I can find on the tv and internet about Burt. Burt Reynolds was the epitome of man. Burt was great actor, comedian and story teller. He sounds as if he was a very forgiving person. It's great that he gave us stories from his entire life to us, his fans. RIP in peace, Mr. Burt Reynolds.
@user name It’s amazing how much effort you are putting into this. I’ve heard good and bad things. Nobody is perfect, the guy is dead...try not to worry about Burt too much bud
Burt lived up the road from us. I didn't know him, but I know several people who did, and it was very common to see him out around town. Literally everybody I've talked to who knew him says he was one of the nicest, kindest people they knew.
If there were more interviews exactly like this I wouldnt ever stop watching them but theres only one Dave and only one Burt Reynolds. This is rare. Great interview.
Finn expand your horizon He was on Johnny Carson who was much better than letterman and burt Reynolds hosted a series of dinner party interviews which are all on RU-vid Don't let Dave rule your life
What a great interview. Burt Reynolds was a regular guy. I know he became famous after Deliverance but he and Jackie Gleason were legendary in the Smokey and the Bandit movies. He knew he wasn't the best actor in the world but he played on that. Let's not forget............. Women loved him!!!!
I can remember standing in a long line at the local movie theater. I was about 20. I was going to feast my eyes on some burt. He did not disappoint! Miss you burt!
Always entertaining and charismatic. Great actor and story teller with perfect timing and sense of humor. Thank you Burt for being a real person as well as a real star.
R.I.P Burt Reynolds....One of my favorites of all time ! Deliverance...Sharkys Machine.....The Longest Yard....White Lightning....Stick...Gator... Cannon Ball Run...and of course Smokey and the Bandit. and many more !
I remember first seeing Burt Reynolds back in the early 80's when I was about 10 years old and I saw how everyone just went crazy. The women wanted him, men wanted to be him, the whole thing. he just seemed like so much fun and had the best life. Even in his best movies he doesn't really seem to be acting or trying to, it always seemed like he was just screwing around on a movie set and they were filming it and everyone was loving it. I grew the same mustache as him at about 16 yrs old and I'm still sporting that stache today. Needless to say seeing Burt Reynolds at 10 sort of created a blue print of the fun loving cool guy that I wanted to be when I grew up. It didn't work out that way of course because at that age I thought you could just be like somebody and that was that, but I am still waiting for this mustache to come back into style.
Back during this time Burt was the man! Whenever I saw he was on a talk show it was a much watch. A great storyteller always able to laugh at himself and show everybody that life was a great adventure. Miss you Bert.
Great interview, Burt was so engaging, funny, clever, charismatic to a fault. Letterman and him definitely had some sparks- this one made me smile a lot.
He's actually known for being a legendary asshole with a massive ego, which is probably why you didn't see much of him after the Sally Field era. Watch the RU-vid videos of him getting in fights with people over nothing.
@@westcoasthockeybias37 I liked Burt in SMOKEY, but here he seems to revel in going on and on about his all-time favorite person. May Mr. Reynolds rest in peace. Anyone know if the restaurant is still around? I'll have to Google it. Dave Lounder IMDb.me/DaLo TheDriveInGuys.com
@@westcoasthockeybias37 He was actually known as being a very nice and generous person. As for the ego, ( which was well earned ), nobody made bigger fun of it than he did. As for the YT videos you speak of, post the links - Oh, and you can leave the Nickleodeon dipshit who Burt pied in the face out - we're all aware of that one (1). And that little twit deserved it. Personally one of my favs. And that was on Leno's show who BR didn't care for and tried throwing trash questions at Burt. Both got what they had coming. Watch lil puss Jay run to the corner hiding LOL. Think I'll dig that one up again, I can use a good laugh.
@WilliamsDad1989...Well said! That moment on Jay Lenno was a moment where Mr. Nickelodean totally had it coming! He took advantage of a very bad moment in Burt's life & tried to use it to make himself look better. He was an ass...as was whimp Leno. In esp poor taste when he states Burt had hired him, more than once, to be on Burt's gameshow...yet he still chooses to try disrespect Burt like that after Burt gives him a job! Burt had a VERY LONG history of being extremely gracious & incredibly generous to his fellow actors, friends & even perfect strangers. Anyone stating he had a rep as a major asshole is flat out WRONG.
made everyone wait before he came out from backstage, did the gun point, looked at every member of the audience before he took his seat - really new how to centre himself before he dropped into character. Masterclass
Burt Reynolds actually received multiple nominations and even awards for his work, most notably for Evening Shade and Boogie Nights. He received 2 Golden Globes, 1 Emmy, and also was nominated for an Oscar-Supporting Actor. Although he lost the Oscar, he won a number of local critics film associations awards for Best Supporting Actor in Boogie Nights.
When I was a kid I just loved Burt Reynolds so much. He was cool, funny and had a swagger that just made me laugh at almost every scene. He could project his mind so you knew what he was thinking without barely saying a word. He was so talented and always went for subtle comic cues that were so natural to him any other actor could find this quite challenging if you were not another seriously talented top line actor. I always insisted we watched anything he was in and when VHS shops suddenly sprung up out of nowhere around every corner shop on every street I would beg my mom to hire 2-3 movies per week until I saw everything he was in even though my mom just thought he was the vulgar, yanky, bigheaded show off. She never got what he was about and missed the whole point of his way of doing things. I came across this show from Joe Rogan mentioning him on Letterman but now I will spend the rest of this week in quarantine watching all his movies I guess.
Yes, it is. And, there is no ' do over '. Sure wish there was! Because mine didn't turn out too good. I guess alot of people can say that, but, you can be happy you made it longer than you thought, still, when it's a disappointment it makes you wonder.
Mr. Reynolds had a great sense of style. Could he possibly be 'cooler' than Steve McQueen? He definitely had a great sense of humor with the best laugh and tough as nails. A classic gentleman.
Big McQueen fan but if he hadn't of died I don't think he would be the Icon he is today . His last 3 movies were flops . McQueen would of faded away IMO . He didn't squander his money so he wouldn't of had to work . No way he would accepted second billing . No way he would of done a talk show . Reynolds had the world by the tail and squandered his appeal his money . Plus he was ill and addicted .
He was so great in Boogie Nights. It was one of my favorite movies and it was because of his performance pulling it all together. The story Burt tells of Clint Eastwood at 14:30, I heard told by Clint himself on a YT video, Barbara Walters interview that was fabulous.
One in a million. The last of the great ones who could actually be entertaining on a talk show. Deliverance and Longest Yard - 2 of the greatest movies ever!
Thank You Mr. Reynolds for all the laughs. I know right now you have Sheriff Buford T Justice chasing you yelling "I'm gonna barbecue yo ass in molasses!"
He got hit in the jaw with a steel chair making "City Heat" when the stunt guy grabbed the wrong chair. This started the terrible pain and health problems Burt Reynolds struggled with for years and the horrible rumors that he had aids. He's obviously a little off here and probably in pain. Never fully recovered. Love the guy - a great entertainer and actor.
Yeah, and what a complete gentleman he was for not even breathing a word about it here; even saying that he had a lot of fun making this picture. No, he didn't. It got critically panned, it did poorly in theaters, and it caused him major health problems as well as a steady decline in his career before his first comeback with the caper comedy *BREAKING IN* in 1989, and his hit TV show "Evening Shade" from 1990 - 94. R.I.P. Burt. We loved ya.
Burt was one in a million. I can literally watch almost any movie he's done simply because he is in it. He has a magnetic charisma, a charm and a badass quality when needed. Dude was awesome. I'd pick Heat, Malone and Sharky's Machine as my favorite Burt films and two of those weren't hits.
He didn't say her name, but everyone in the business knew that Lori Nelson was known for driving a T-bird and was in a Creature of the Black Lagoon sequel, so he sort of did give it away.
Can't be. He said he was only a starlet at the time, and that she went on to become a big movie star. Lori's career was almost over when he went to Hollywood.
Esther Williams career was about over when he went to LA --- and she was already a huge star. He said the person he bedded was only a starlet, but went on after he bedded her to be a big star. Can't be Esther Williams.
What a fans actor! So entertaining! He was just as entertaining talking about a restaurant menu as talking about Hollywood. When he talked you was tuned in. And that smile was priceless. Will always miss Burt. Hollywood’s only one of a kind
