That's when you got moments like George Gobel coming out and sitting down with Bob Hope and Dean Martin and saying "You ever get the feeling that the world is a tuxedo and you're a pair of brown shoes".
It's very interesting to hear Clint talk about film shots, wide, then dramatic closeups, etc. He became such a great director and writer. Plus, he's a cool jazz/blues pianist. Cool dude.
@@gerrydooley951 Maybe Clint only just noticed the socks, not to mention he could hardly get a word in edgeways, with Letterman hardly pausing for breath.
Fine, give me an example of a Real Man. He raised several families, made millions of dollars and entertained millions on top of that. Until you find someone who can do better, your words lack substance. He was not an abuser, drug addict or narcissic fool like many of these actors...including the cartoons. So present your example, most wise Emily. @@EmilyTienne
So I recently watched "old" Clint in "the Mule". Same laid back guy. Clint has always been a favorite actor of mine. Hes 90 years old now, I think", in 2024. Iam 84. I think Ive seen every one of his movies. God bless you, Clint!
how amusing that Letterman is teasing Clint about not wearing a tie while committing the ultimate fashion sin of wearing white socks with dress shoes. and Clint called him out for wearing gym socks.
@@gerrydooley951 No, Dave is saying Now days, WHY was I on the side for Democrat's, Because They have Become A Bunch of Freaks. Sorry Dave Flopped in this on.
That is so funny that you wrote that… I just made the same comment two minutes ago and then I scrolled down and you had said the same exact thing. That is really something and what was he like 6 foot five holy crap
Johnny Carson was a class act. Dave Letterman was, too. Letterman was a novelty when I started college; there was a lot of talk about people missing morning classes because Letterman made them stay up an hour later than usual.
Funny hearing Clint promoting Unforgiven having no idea at the time what an Oscar winning success that film would turn out to be. Arguably some of if not his best work.
So what if he is a trump supporter. It doesn't change how much talent he has. He's voted mostly Democrat in his life. Republican when it suits him. There was a time when people didn't get their feelings hurt by someone else's opinion. You could just accept an individual no matter what they thought. In fact we celebrated our differences!! It made life interesting. Today everyone wants to be offended. Its annoying as hell.
Letterman was enjoying riding a wave to the height of his career here. People nowadays wouldn't believe how popular he was at this time. Personally I liked the early NBC days a lot more.
My girlfriend and I had the rare occasion to meet and talk to Clint years ago, we were just a young couple. He was with his young son and they were surrounded by several bodyguards but my girlfriend ran through them to meet him and he was gracious enough to stop and chat and let us snap a quick picture with him. He was not arrogant or mean to us in the least, just a nice normal guy. 🎉
I used to live on the Monterey Peninsula....I can tell you, Eastwood thinks he owns the entire area....he's not a nice guy. If anything, he is offensive to the disabled community.
@@alfredgeorge317B.S. hater. How can you live like this? Making allegations mostly on hearsay and the rest on your own self-righteous, biased conclusions. Pffft, I hope you don't have children.
If discriminating against the disabled community, and legally attacking a woman in a wheelchair, is your idea of a "cool guy", then something is wrong with you.
Norm Macdonald said it best. Carson was corny and Letterman changed comedy. Doesn’t mean we don’t respect Carson but we’re talking about actual talent and funny here.
Love this show and Johnny. I'm grateful for having been a child and watching this show. Hands down the best late night show in history and beyond. I don't even bother staying up for these clowns nowadays and that includes snl.
Well nobody misses you I promise you that so your back in my day everything was so much better rant is going of deaf ears sorry but the younger generation don’t care to hear you older people complain about everything I’m 40 and I’m part of that generation
Exactly how he was when my girlfriend and I had the rare chance to chat with him, very humble, not pretentious in the sense of being a cinematic legend. 😊
So glad I watched all these legends careers my whole life. What a wonderful entertainment ride .thank you for all the joy you have brought us all !!! 🎉😂😢😮😅😊
Clint Eastwood: Cool, calm, a true legend, might be the biggest moviestar and director of the world - an idol. Many great movies, not many weak ones. When others end, he started all over: "In the Line of Fire". Like a lot of people I would like to meet Clint Eastwood in person.:-)
I remember my Mom always saying she didn’t like David Letterman because he had frat house humor, so I never watched him either. But seeing him now in my late 40s and watching some other episodes of his show, he is really funny! Dry, sarcastic humor, kind of an endearing jerk. What’s not to like? Lol
while he was banging his assistants and lying to his wife? what a pathetic loser posing as honest but a POS..and no me too people called him out as he probably bought them out with his money
They could not have given Dave the tonight show. He had a younger audience with his own show in New York. And if they gave him the tonight show, they would risk losing that audience with a newer host. Even back then when this was happening. I was even telling people that day was not going to get the tonight show after Carson left. This way, they still had David Letterman. Unknown quantity and j was running on Johnny steam for a while.
@@felinefinetessaslegacy2878 But Dave did end up proving he could be successful in that time slot with the audience Johnny had. The audience in the clip loving him is one citation and the other is the success he had at CBS. If Dave had the Tonight Show he wouldn’t have had strong competition and would have been solid. :-)
What classic TV...god, I miss Johnny and Dave every night. Clint Eastwood was the perfect straight man for Dave. Late Night TV has been pathetic ever since.
Clint was calm as he prefers to be generally, but Letterman came out on fire! He was more amped up than I have ever seen him--he was turned up to eleven! But compare this to ANY modern talk show and you see there's no comparison.
Yeah Clint just being cool Dave immediately starts trying to critique him for not wearing a tie and Clint just let's him know he's being booed for that ...funny.
@@atldjango Clearly a moron who can't think for himself forms his opinion by following a crowd, including a fake tv audience that is rewarded for laughing and cheering.
My God. I remember when Unforgiven was the latest Clint film. And was the mark of the end of an era. The Man with No Name finally became human. What an epic film. An epic man. Even Johnny was enthralled.
This was on a Friday night in 1992. I remember seeing this when it originally aired. Dave's story about the dog and the bad meat had me rolling on the floor then. I have not seen it in years.
Exactly. It was horrible and unfunny even by the standards back then. I remember watching this live and feeling this was an epic fail for Dave.@@jjbalsalm955
I’m doing the math and the thing I’m focusing on is that I think he’s 93 right now which would make him what 61 years old in this ??? That is one damn tall strong broad hunk of gorgeous man … 61 holy crap what genetics .
How is Eastman a "father figure" for America? He has at least 8 known children, that he was legally forced to admit. He cheated on his wives...and families. He threatened and ruined the career of actress Sandra Locke, once their 14 year relationship ended....he had her blackballed in Hollywood. The entire time he was married to Dina Ruiz, he was having an affair with a jazz/lounge singer. He knowingly discriminated against the disabled community, when he renovated his Mission Ranch, and legally attacked a woman in a wheelchair, when she filed a legitimate complaint. His claim to fame as the Mayor of Carmel, was that people could eat ice cream...(long story). Eastwood is just an SOB.
@@alfredgeorge317 I was mostly joking. I just like Clint. I don't think Sandra would have had any career without Clint in the first place. The government has got way out of hand with regulations which Clint fought against. I wish he had become our governor and then president.
There will never be anyone like these 2 masters of their craft. Thank goodness we have their movies and shows to watch many more times...Clint could paly any part and make it his own. Johhny could always bring out the best of his guests on show after show...
No other host before or since had Johnny's talent for being a guest's best friend. His secret was easy and simple to understand, no ego, if your guest is entertaining - you look entertaining.
This was Dave after losing out on the tonight show gig showing NBC executives why they made a mistake picking Leno over him to succeed Carson. Letterman was on fire here and made his point. Kudos to Carson for giving Letterman his platform to make his point. Great post.
I still like Jay Leno better. I liked that Jay Leno was more personable. Dave was good in this one, but I didn’t think his show was usually anywhere near as good as this.
In 1975 I toured the US during 3 months. I was staying with Swedish relatives in Tustin (LA) for a couple of weeks visiting Manhattan beach every day. Every night after dinner my relatives switched on the TV and I saw Carson show for the first time and was immediately hooked. I watched every night during my stay. He had a magnetic charisma like nobody else. Letterman comes in as no 2 and Leno at 3. Conan and Kimmel are good but not in the same league as these 3 above. You are lucky that Corden has left. Seinfelt is too rich otherwise he would be good!
Johnny Carson was amazing. He was insane. Such an important part of my childhood. David Letterman sealed the deal. They’re both the reason for my sick sense of humor.
@@EmilyTienne Let me give you an assign ment. Find Daves stand up comedy videos on utube. You probably won't find one. Because he absolutely sucked. He kissed Carsons butt and the rest is history. Lettermans daytime show was funny. His late night stuff wasn't his, it was the writers if it was funny. Dave got his popularity by being rude and obnoxious to guests and making people uncomfortable. This made it different than all those before him and his younger audience thought it was funny. He became everything he claimed to hate an entertainment industry hack. Watch king of comedy thats what Daves dead end job world was. He had no talent so thats where he ended up.
