In this video, i build my first meat smoker at the bushcraft basecamp. Basically i used bark from some dead trees to make a mini tipi that would hold in and circulate the smoke.
Made some beef jerky, cooked up some veggies using a COOL new method.
Thank you for watching.

I think Scrambled-O, TAoutdoors and JoeRobinet should all do a whole video impersonating the other person and their homeland style bushcraft. For example: Scrambled-o -> impersonate mike and do British style bushcraft & cooking. (British tea & biscuits, accents, etc) TAoutdoors -> impersonate Joe and Canadian style bushcraft (moose meat, say eh much as possible, traditional snowshoes, maple syrup, etc) JoeRobinet -> impersonate scrambled-o and make it as American as possible haha. Would love the see all three of these edited together. Might be a possible thought for a future video series for you guys to collaborate on! (All in good fun/educational of course)

Awesome buddy - I can't believe how each and every video is so much better than the previous ones. And pretty nimble for a gentle giant. I know you want something elevated and away from your main fire, but you may want to make your existing pit a keyhole design so you can rake the coals under your cooking grill.
@randylindsay9946

Thought about this as well. I have seen others use the keyhole design and thought it was such a simple, but effective idea!

You're going to burn you camp down with that fire setup. lol Let me give you another way. Back in the 1700's and 1800's when we still used wooden ships, the ships galley would have a fire box to do the cooking. This was a wooden box that was filled with sand where they would make the cooking fires. You could build a table to put it on then build a box out of branches with some of that bark on bottom. Fill it with dirt and put your coals in that. You could also lash an arm to it to hold your pots or just lay a couple of larger branches across it to hold your skillet out of the fire. Hope that helps you some.

This is probably the video that I have seen most times, and I keep going back to it. The intro, the building of the smoker, scrambled... If this video is not a testament of cinematic skills I don't know what else it could be. WHY DID U STOP USING THE DRONE SCRAMBLED???????? You really are somebody who makes RU-vid worth having on the device much respect and much love man!!!!!

Nice! I love bushcrafter vids, Your's is one of the very best. 1st of all, you're an excellent film maker and always something new and interesting. There are so many bushcrafters now, the market is getting flooded. Usually it's put up a shelter, chop wood, start a fire, cook, chow down, start drinking. Get up in the morn, have coffee. Which doesn't sound too bad, except for the viewer. I have a little disability so I can't anymore, but I like to imagine I'm there. I like your camp, the burn bowl and smoker were great

What you want is a hearth. Build a wooden counter top, with two A-frames, one top and two side connecting poles to lay your cross sticks to make a level waist high horizontal surface. Yeah, it's made of wood, but you build it strong enough so that the counter can support a layer of crushed gravel, sand, rocks or soil. It's on this non-flammable surface that you place your coals and it's like your stove top at home next to a counter you prep food on. You can make it lower so that you can sit in a chair and use it as well.

Hey 'Scrambled!' That be some fine vee-day-oh. I just smoked some baby back pork ribs for the family. Your bush craft smoker had all the principles covered, except maybe for a water bowl to generate humidity. I didn't use one today and I got MY best results ever. You so often have a great twist on techniques. Thanks!

As I watched you blowing on the fire to get the smoke rolling again, I remembered watching a TV episode of another program on how this guy took a piece of a limb about 18" to 24" long and about 2 inches thick and split it down the middle. He then proceeded to cut a small groove in the middle, long ways, of both halves. Now he would tie the 2 halves back together and have a blow stick. Very smart thing to do and comes in handy.

Nice video over all. I suggest bring in or building around a large stump, burn or cut out the center as you did, then lining the interior of said burnt out stump with flat rocks. Add coals. You'd have a longer lasting and more efficient stove.

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't you make a smaller portable stand for the burn bowl? That way it's portable in front of you and you can warm your feet with coals at a closer distance? Fantastic video by the way! The music in the beginning and end reminds me of every 1980's cocaine movie lol

Hey O, since you said you could use some new ideas, here's a pretty tricky one: For your new cooking system you have to put up the pan and blow the coals for a couple of times. Pan cools a bit, cooking takes more time (I know, we have plenty, but NOT WHEN U'RE HUNGRY AF!!!11), that sucks. So maybe you can drill some holes from the sides (following the direction of the "wood's tissue"?) to give it more airflow. If the fire is still not getting enough air, find yourself some drinking straws, connect it to the holes and blow some in it. Or you just put up the pan for a second.

I just thought of something else you might think about doing, and that is plant a small garden type, with veg, to cook with if your able to do something like that. This way you'll have plenty vegs to cook with. They make a pocket bello so you can blow on your fire without getting right down in the pit. I got two off of Amazon.

I'm subbed to Jas. Townsend and son. In the 18th century, they just raked a few coals away from the main fire to right next to the fire for cooking. Seems like the simplest and best way to me. I think you're right. This looks like a good way to burn down your shelter, lol. Your editing is off the chain. Keep up the great work!
