Out in the woods getting some flint to send to a friend, I thought I would re-stock each of my 3 Flint and Steel Kits. here they all are for you to look at, including a demonstration of each one against the flint.
youre right mate, although i have several ways of starting a fire, i do like the feeling of satisfaction getting a proper old flint and steel fire going, makes me feel the connection with the past if that doesnt sound too cheesy! i am happy to say that i find it quite easy to do the flint and steel thing, and that lamp wick was awsome, but i still favour the ferro rod, or in crappy conditions the old rubber inner tube n lighter trick, nice vid mate, cheers, dave
one tip mate, put a piece of cloth or thin piece leather over the contents of the Hudson Bay tin so the contents don't scratch your lens, it's the only weakness of the Hudson Bay Tins if you store flint and steel in them. I only store char cloth in mine, and use other tins for my flint and steels kits. I have to admit I collect strikers, and love flint and steel. It is my favorite way of starting fires. I love drawing the spark from steel and stone.
Flint and steel is my favourite fire lighting technique. I use the knuckle-duster way of holding the steel, but I'll try the way you do it. I only have one main kit, plus a smaller one I won in a YT GAW. My aim is to get one of those Hudson Bay tins, though. I'm in love with them. Oh uh... next time you're out finding flint, please think of me. I'll pay the shipping, no problem. I'm dying for some British flint.
Hello Jedi, three cracking little flint & steel kits , I love to start a fire mine sometimes it's nice to start a fire the old fashioned way . ️atb martin
Anther great video my friend! I am amazed we use the same striking techniques. The "nuckle duster" techniques does not suit me either. The hudson bay tin is just beautiful i remember when you got it. It is aging respectfully and i am sure it will be an life long companion. Thank you for sharing! All the best
Nice video mate -Just bought my first flint and steel kit - I made my first batch of char cloth last week and like you say 'not all char cloth are created equal'!! I couldn't get it to catch a spark - tried again and the 2nd batch did - looking forward to starting my fire using this method next week.ATB - Marcus
I need to get me a good flint striker, gotta get better at that technique. I still haven't been able to make a fire with a flint and steel. Awesome kits! -Jacko
