I have yet to own either of those types of burners. I have several diy stoves I have built that are based on the same concept though. May have to consider one of those in the future. Thank you for sharing! Peace, Shane
great idea mr jedi, another thing i found at yard sales was old slr lens cases, really cheap and some have a popper closure, the meths stoves and pop can stoves fit just right, i think i showed some on one of my canadian vids, cheers bud, laters, dave
That's a great carry option, Jedi. Just out of curiosity, how are commercial meth burners compared to DIY stoves like a penny-can stove? I'm still figuring out whether to buy or build.
Wannabe Bushcrafter Personally I would do both! If I had to choose between the Tatonka and the Trangia its a tough call. I like the larger reservoir on the Tatonka, but for some reason I just feel that the Trangia blooms and burns better, no scientific evidence to support that, just my hunch with a look and feel. Penny stoves are great but of course have their drawbacks, first of all they are not a sealed unit so you cant transport any fuel like you can in a Tatonka or Trangia which have 'o' ring seals, so whatever fuel you put in them has to either be poured back if you can do it, or burnt off which is a waste. Second the penny stoves are not as robust and will dent or crush easier that the commercial options, but then the commercial options are heavier and bulkier than penny stoves.
