I was researching on this type of career after I saw a position where I live with a great salary. But never done business development only, that I’m building my own business in Digital Marketing. This is really helpful.
So glad we could help you! Getting clients for your own business is a great way to grow your business development experience. Best of luck and thank you for watching! -bryan from Wahl+Case
Hi@@lynn9133 . I realized its not well paid and the job role was not something i expected. So i moved to becoming a data analyst which now pays me 100% more than being Business development associate. Soon, i will leave the data analyst role too and move to content creation !
Congrats! I am working as a BDM now, definitely not as a career path. But it's a good entry point to IT industry (speacially if you don't have an engineer degree). Hoping to work for around 1-2 years, to make curriculum and jump to smth less stressful.
I watched other BD vids but they didn’t explain BDM roles and responsibilities as good as you explained it. I loved how you were straight to the point. Thank you l.
Thank you so much! So glad we were able to help, please let me know if there are any other videos you would like to see. Thank you again for learning with us! -bryan
I’d love to start a career in BDM! I’ve been a freelance artist my entire life and I’m very great at communicating and presenting my work to prospective clients. One could say I’m very persuasive!
Hello! Thank you for your comment! Currently we are only working in Tokyo, but I would recommend looking for Business Development Representative, Account Executive, or Sales roles to get your foot in the door. To be honest, many companies appreciate the hustle of freelance work, so it is a good idea to lead with that. We have another video in the works going over the 5 skills that will get you hired, I will be sure to link it here when it is published. Here are the main points from that video: www.wahlandcase.com/blog/2021/10/15/5-skills-to-get-hired-business-development-manager -bryan
This resonates so well with my RU-vid channel! Sales/BD is a fantastic career choice and our job is to educate schools and colleges to teach young people that Sales is a fantastic career choice. The benefits of the skills learnt in sales will have such positive impacts on all aspects of their life's. E.g winning, losing, handling rejection, commitment, self development, etc
Thanks for the comment Matt! I totally agree, the skills that come from working sales can really be leveraged across any career. I appreciate your time Matt, thanks again! -Bryan
Thanks for the video! I've worked in ops management for several years and have an interview for a BDM role, this is helpful in combination with the job description to connect the dots on what the company is looking for. Thanks!
@@ramyamohanraj2836 Sorry for the late reply, RU-vid doesn't show responses to comments in the dashboard. Yes, a BDM will have sales targets. There is another type of Business Development that is focused on bringing in new business lines.
Now I'm 16 and I decided to choose this profession (BD), looking at my personality, I realise that my personality suits for Business Developer. Personality test results me that i have enough soft skills that on video. Thank you for this information, now beacuse of you I have my dream job😊.
I have been offered this in my company, they say I will be a natural since I have charisma, not afraid of talking to people and also have enough knowledge in what we do, our infrastructure infrastructure and how it works (I was doing both Support and SysOps) and the cybersecurity industry. Wish me luck!
Hi sir, Sir, please make a full detailed video on "business development executive" and cover the below topics as well : 1) how business development executives work in a software company 2)how they generate sales 3) which tools they use 4) how do they get clients / how do they target tech clients 5) how they close deals with client 6) Etc
Hi Muhammad, did you eventually get materials to deal with your above stated request? Just on the path of becoming a Business Developer for a fintech company and would appreciate if you can share materials learnt from for the past 1 year you put this up. Thank you!
I am currently a Program Manager, but will start a new and exciting role as a Business Development Manager. I am currently 36 and I am curious to know if this is an average age to start this role. I am nervous yet eager to start my new career pathway and this video has been very helpful. Thank you :)
I'm a 28 year old BDM. Actually started my first BDM role when I was 25. Very easy dynamic for a job, you just need to be assertive, transaprent and stand behind the business you are represnting. A potential clients will smell doubt before you walk in for that meeting.
Hello! Thank you for the kind words. Currently we are only operating in Tokyo, but I will let you know as soon as that changes. Thank you again for watching. -bryan
Thank you so much for watching Urvi! We actually have a CSM video, you can watch it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lkcmFBuj9JE.html We will get to work on the Customer Relation Management, any other requests? Thank you again Urvi!
I know I’m about a year late 😂 but do you know how we could specialize in the first or second type of BDM, in order to do just that ? I’m thrilled by the second type (in big tech), but I’m really not into the first one. Any advice or thoughts ?
Hello! I have been thinking about this question since I first saw your comment and I sill don't have a good answer. My first instinct based on my time working roles like these would be to start as Business Development Representative (BDR) any where you can. It will be a sales heavy role, but it will give you experience in talking with executives and cold outreach. While you are working these roles try to build as deep of a network as you can. This is part of the job of a BDR, but if you do it well, you will be able to build your whole career off of the network. When I was recruiting for this position with a major tech player looking to connect with telco's, this was their 1 requirement. A network of high level executives in telco. So build your connections and prove that you have the charisma to persuade executives. It will be a journey, but I hope this helps! - bryan P.S. I have reached out to Fuminori, who I mentioned in the video, he was working as a BDM for Softbank in Japan. I hope he will have some insight as well.
Awesome Mam I have an Interview in a Few days for the role of BDM. And this video could help me a lot for a better understanding abou that position❤. Kindly could you guide me on that How I can prepare for an interview of Business Development Manager role.
Thank you and best of luck on your interview! I would say the focus of your prep should be on a few specific skills, company interest, and how you will present your answers. Let's go over how to present your answers first so that when you are gathering the info for the skills you can be thinking of it in this framework. STAR Interview Method: S = Situation, the problem your company or customer was facing (i.e. our sales were down) T = Task, the things you were assigned to do (i.e. I needed to close at least 5 deals) A = Action, the way you went about completing your tasks (i.e. I sent out 50 cold email, setup 20 meetings, and I was able to close 5 deals by getting to know the real challenges our customers were facing and how our system could help them) R = Results, what were the results of your actions (i.e. because of the 5 deals I closed, our revenue was at a record for the past 5 years and I am better able to help our customers that I meet with now) 1. Sales Results - how do you approach sales and how were you able to achieve those results? Make sure to frame it with your goal being to help your customers. 2. Cold outreach - you need to show that you have the ability to message, call, email, or speak with people that you have had no prior contact with. 3. Creativity - you need to show that you are able to look for opportunities in places that other people may not expect and are able to drive business results that other people would overlook. The other thing you need to show is company and industry knowledge, be sure to spend time getting to know the company you are interviewing with. Start on their website, then go through each of their social channels to get not only an understanding of what they do and their culture, but also write down as many questions as you can that you want to ask your interviewer if they have time. Additionally, if you can show that you have a network that you can call upon in the industry you are going to be working in, it will also give you a head start. This will show them that you care about their business and are interested in them as a company and you are not just looking for a job. Those are the the best tips I could come up with off the top of my head, I hope they help! -bryan
@@Wahl_and_Case Brother I've selected and the salary Will be based on my performance tmrw they'll Negotiate or they'll analyse my performance they said Brother. So, can you give me any tips to well on my First days for the position of Business Development Associate If you can help me that could helps me a lot..
This is a really great question! On paper, it seems like a far move from a Technical Background to a client facing sales position. How you frame your experience will play the biggest role in getting your future position. You can use your knowledge of the backend to connect with your technical clients in a way that other sales folks cannot. If you are looking for a position that can bridge technical and sales, I would recommend a Presales engineer. I hope this helps, I saved your comment and if you would want to learn more, we can try to write a blog or make a video about this topic. Thank you again! -bryan
Hello! Thank you for your interest! To be honest, I am not familiar with any courses on Business Development so I would feel less than honest recommending any. However, I can recommend a book about selling things that helped me: To Sell is Human by Dan Pink You can find it here: www.danpink.com/books/to-sell-is-human/ Hope this helps! -Bryan
It is a sales role. If you are not excited to meet with clients, handle negotiations, and work on solving problems with clients, than business development is probably not the best role for you. There are less direct sales roles that you can consider. I would look into Customer Success and Account Management. Hope this helps! -Bryan from Wahl+Case
Hi Kunam, A BDM (Business Development Manager) is a sales position and a BBA (Bachelors of Business Administration) is a degree. Which would better suit your situation?
@@shaimusmys5679 Thank you! BDM is the more senior position, but which is better for you will depend on where you are in your career. If you have never managed a team, becoming a Manager could be a big step. However, if you feel you are ready for the responsibility, it will be worth it! Hope this helps. -Bryan from Wahl+Case
Hello sir I'm doing work as BDE with one ATS company but I'm little bit confused that when I'll get 2 years experience I hope that I'll get good good salary in better organisation like Infosys.
Watch me learn to pronounce SaaS here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--KTAtTu6m-s.htmlsi=CE1ilAL0fEQiW3vA&t=209 Thanks for listening closely! -bryan
so that's just a glorified cold caller. every time you answer your phone and there's somebody trying to sell you a magazine subscription, you are in fact talking with BDM
You are not wrong! Though their title is Inside Sales Representative (ISR), Sales Development Representative (SDR), or Business Development Representative (BDR). Because this is a B2B sales position, they will be cold calling other businesses. So if you are answering your work phone and they are trying to sell you a subscription, especially as software as a service one, yes! You are talking with a business development person. Hope this helps! -bryan
A BDM is an absolute waste of time and space. Most will do the most minimal jobs possible or delegate to (Apparent) lower roles. Waste of flow and no income generation they can provide. If you have one at your work.. They are explaining the obvious to get paid what? IMO get rid of the role give the hard workings a pay rise and forget you even thought about it..
While I do see where you might be coming from. I assume you say this coming from personal experience where your BDM wasn’t pulling their weight and not providing/or trying to provide unique insights or values that justified their job. Is there any reason in particular that made you feel like this role isn’t justified? Do you think the job is useless or do you feel like you had conflicting roles in your organization? I felt like it was pretty straightforward. Identifying potential clients/partners Business or client relationship maintenance Going through the sales process Analyzing market data and trends Setting growth goals And I could list more but you obviously watched the video. I’m just asking out of curiosity, I don’t really have work experience and I just want to learn more about the business world.
Yes. Coming from Experience. Multiple Businesses I have worked for retain a certain and similar culture. It all of course depends on the Director Chief (Boss) of course. If they tolerate Failure and Excuses staring at a blank wall.. All points you mentioned are basic in terms of what any Sales Team/Parts Team/Service Team/Transit Team should be driven and aligned to do. (Hopefully by contract) It does depend how big or small the business is, That is what a BDM would say. Yes. In my Opinion organizations have worked out paying for a role they never needed, BDM never has an opportunity to over rule what a "Boss" Should be watching and acting upon themselves. BDM bring measurements of achievement no matter how high or low blanket to the workers currently doing it and achieving it or not achieving it.. The Bottom line matters to the boss.. Only in my opinion.. BDM means to me. crazy, lazy, loose boss.
Hi Lars, Thanks for your comment, I agree that we over did it with the CTAs in this one. Check out our other videos to see if we improved ;) (kidding) I really do appreciate the feedback. Thanks again Lars! -bryan
Definitely helping !!! 😀 thank you!!! I was finding an intern position about this BDM in Paas and Saas, and this really help me to understand what this position is doing and help me have some preparation before the interview ❤
Hi Nikola, Great question! Because of the strategic nature of this role, we have seen this lead to leadership roles such as Country Manager, Director of Business Development, Sales Director, Managing Director, Chief Revenue Officer, and more including other C-suite positions. Business Development Manager is one of the funnels to the top. Hope this helps, and best of luck with your career! -bryan
I'm a Business Development Officer. Sometimes people ask me about my portfolio. Can anyone tell me or guide me on what type of portfolio I should have as a business developer?
@@_VISION. That is a great question! I am not sure, but I know there are a lot of partner selling organizations. Maybe there is too much overlap? It might be worth exploring!
