Wow, service time manipulation needs to be stopped. Sounds kinda criminal in a way. There are companies that do this to people who are about to hit pension and find a way to get rid of them before it. These owners or whoever make these decisions that have never played ball a day in their life should not be making decisions like that.

All these arm chair GMs chiming in, especially when it comes to a real GM that has made all the right moves not just for the team, but for the players. They need to move veteran pieces around and there's also chemistry in the clubhouse so letting a Mateo, Hays, Mullins or Urias just go for nothing might not be well received.

I 1000% agree that the service time manipulation is annoying and awful. I also agree that Jackson Holiday should have been on the big league roster on opening day. AND I agree that even with new billionaire, home based ownership coming, the Orioles are still a woefully small market team. If service time manipulation is so egregious, for what reason has it never been a sticking point in negotiation between the owners and the players? The simple answer is the union isn't all that psyched to fight for guys who haven't made it to the bigs. And with the structure of the union changing, that could shift. But the big boy reality is that while watching my favorite team be amazing for the first time in a VERY long time, it doesn't change the fact that we're closer to the "50 feet of crap" end of the spectrum than the Yankees/Sox/Dodgers. And not for nothing, but just because new ownership isn't the Angelos family doesn't mean they're going to be good at it. Hopefully, the first "new owner syndrome" move they pull is to massively overpay to extend Adley, Gunnar, and Jackson, not trade away our best assets for a flashy name that will only be around for a few years.

Holliday will be a stud, but why rush him? He's 20 and has barely played in AAA. They need to see what Westburg can do playing every day. He was a top prospect and deserves his shot. They're also breaking in Cowser at the big league level and soon Kjerstad and Mayo will need to get a shot. Holliday has also struggled defensively at 2nd thus far. I just don't see any need in rushing him to the bigs when he has some things to work on. If you watched his spring training AB's he was chasing a lot more than we're used to seeing from him. Let him work through his issues in AAA and call him up when he's ready. Remember last year what the Yankees did to Volpe? They rushed him up to the majors after barely playing any games in AAA and he was one of the worst hitters in baseball.

Elias and the Orioles know what they’re doing. Additional time at AAA is the right move for Jackson and consistent with their patient approach making sure players are ready in all facets to contribute to the team. As former manager Buck Showalter once said… “It’s the name on the front of the jersey that matters…” Side note - I’d bring up Kjerstad before Holliday!

That's exactly what i was thinking and i was very vocal about it up until the end of the game last night Now my take is he belongs in the majors but it probably wasn't urgent to call him up 0 for 8 with strikeouts, some in big game situations Clearly the Os are gonna be ok without him I think management might've been correct when they decided to let him develop a bit more Especially if it means keeping him and extra season

They got the best farm system like the Braves had in the early 1990's. See Holliday, Kjerstad, Mayo would be in the majors right now if they were on 80% of the other MLB teams. But the Orioles have a loaded team. It's sad in baseball because if this was another sport like hockey, football, or basketball they would be playing in the top level. Who cares if they win a title in the minor leagues or they are a minor league mvp. They need to be in the majors to enhance the sport. Trammell was 20, Trout 19/20, Mays 20, Mantle 19/20, Griffey 19, Harper 19, Yount 18/19, Frank R. 20, Ted Williams 20, A-Rod 18/19, Kaline 19, Bench 20.......

Baltimore does not have their best 26 players on the roster. Hayes and Mullins didn't exactly finish last season strong and if they continue to slump offensive, it doesn't make sense to keep them around. Let all of the baby birds come up and play. Do they really need to keep Urias around, when they have Holliday and Mayo ready to go?
@HappySessionsMusic

Mullins is a gold glove center fielder who went 30-30 a few years ago. Give him a second. Hayes can go, Urias and Tony Kemp can go and bring up Holliday and Mayo... this should all happen immediately.

Service the time manipulation, I understand, but Jackson.Holiday had less than 25 games at second base I believe and had very little experience against quality left-handed pitching especially at the AAA level. In no way does someone go from single to the big in one year without having a fairly decent time facing top prospects and AAA. I don’t buy the service time manipulation. I think it’s suspect I think it’s possible but highly unlikely considering Jackson Holiday still only what 20/21 years old.

I like Ramon Urias on this team as a utility backup player and I am convinced by now that Mateo has some blackmail photos of either Elias or Hyde doing something they shouldn't so I get why he was put on the opening day roster. But when they went out and signed Tony freaking Kemp I about lost all faith. I usually like to side with the general manager on these subjects but I just couldn't make the argument anymore when they put Kemp on the roster and sent Holliday down. Even if they leave him down there till after the all-star break, he is still going to have an adjustment period. I would prefer that period to take place at the beginning of the season, not the middle.

I’m not against the Orioles sending Jackson to the minors to start the season. This is a kid you bring up in July when you’re in the middle of a pennant race and it’s like landing a blockbuster trade before the deadline. On top of that, let this young man get more reps down in the minors and allow him to work on his mechanics and more importantly his weaknesses. Mike Elias and the front office KNOW what they’re doing.

MLB generally has no clue what it is doing. Let players play. One time in a broadcast Jim Palmer said he thought he came up too early. But he also said he learned what he needed to work on. Holliday isn't learning ANYTHING by playing against inferior talent. Get him into the majors so he either learns what he needs to work on, or fails. The guy has been playing probably since he was 3. How much of a doctorate do you need to play a sport? People who operate on BRAINS don't spend this much time in the minor leagues. Let good players play. Example. Al Kaline had his career year at the age of 20. Look it up. The 'modern' mentality is swisstarding the majors and player development.

Why do people think: 1. We would be rushing him bringing him up now? (FYI Jackson has shown he’s more ready than any of the other rookies other teams like the WS winning Rangers started on their OD roster, at every level incl. spring training). 2. This notion that bringing up a player too soon will ruin him or something? 😂 This is the dumbest opinion I see. You are the same people I guarantee who were [very wrongly] whining to send Gunnar down to AAA last year (you all were so wrong!). I love Elias and always defend him because DUH, but this move was so obvious service time manipulation and if you think otherwise you’re either ignorant about baseball or you’re being daft. It doesn’t get more obvious. You think Urias or Tony Kemp wins us more games than Jackson!? Get outta here 😂. Also the errors… do you all not watch games? Love Gunnar, I think he finishes top 3 in MVP voting this year, but he’s made atleast 2 or 3 errors already, and a few throws that Mounty saved an error on.. I just hope Elias doesn’t hold him there longer than the day after he needs to for another year of service, just so it doesn’t look SO obvious as so many of us realize. Go O’s.

@@RYANRIPKENMEDIA Sorry about the sp. And as you have to know...everybody is different in terms of development. And don't get me wrong...I believe in Jackson 1000%. He's dominated at every level coming into the majors. That's not the issue here. The issue as I see it is whether his current development level is enough to help him adjust to the majors without any setbacks, particularly his confidence level. He's pressing, and needs to just let the game come to him, but that's easier said than done. I could be wrong, but this might be a case of him being too strong for the minors and not quite strong enough for the majors. If that's the case, what do you do? I think that while it might make him angry to be sent back down, the alternative is to have his confidence erode away at the major league level. It becomes a vicious circle (or cycle). The more he wants to show what he can do the more he presses. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. I only want the best for him and his development. He's the future, and I don't want to see him mismanaged because of other considerations. Go O's!
