Anyone want to buy a planter-All offers welcome! You Would Think This Thing Was a Strip Tiller! Problem after problem.Thank goodness this planter is equipped with all sorts of sensors. I've got so many codes being flashed at me I may lose my mind. The neighbors haven't stopped with their red tractor once and now my tractor won't even move!! 194 acres later and maybe we have things working?? But wait there's more!!!!!!!

I remember enlisted helicopter mechanic/crew chief, then Naval Officer Helicopter Senior Instructor pilot, it seemed every other discrepancy write-up was never simple. So half the time, real simple just Remove and Replace, the other times, troubleshoot, and troubleshoot over and over. Lucky for our squadron, I had 4 years of Army and 4 years of navy making helicopter memories. So at the end of my service, I could listen to the person doing the write-up and know really fast what was actually wrong.

Yes, in theory, computer operation is faster and more efficient, but, especially now, if a sensor or monitor or whatever gets jacked up, the chances of them having them/it in stock is slim to none, and the chances of it actually working are the same. The downtime and cost just doesn’t make it worth it to me. Although GPS and auto steer are nice conveniences.

Looks like the building damage that you encountered from the tornado and that damaged your planter looks like it did a ton more damage. I'd just go n trade the planter for a db90 or 1775nt or air seeder. You definitely don't need as much headache as you've encountered after the storm damage that you did.

If you're going for Silage there are options for air seeders, but for most cases you want a planter because of the row spacing, if they planted a LOT MORE beans then an air seeder would be handy. But in most cases Corn and air seeders don't work well plus you can plant beans with a planter as well
@asmrhead1560
@asmrhead1560 Год назад
@@thomasbritten7216 You can do it, but the population variance murders yield. If they were planting for silage you can KINDA get away with it, but not for commercial corn.

@@asmrhead1560 and you're right it's tricky to set an air seeder to do corn but it's still capable just have to rearrange settings and setting the rows on it but it's still doable.

Although I don't necessarily disagree, I've seen the accuracy that the hydraulic downforce provides when it's working well, especially at higher speeds. But yes, mechanical is often times much simpler and just as effective!!

@@ryecarlson7867 Even a few percent better adds up, and it's especially better when soil type and consistency varies across a field. If you could plant into the proverbial "Spherical Cow" of a field then springs would be just fine. The hydraulic downforce shines when "the slopes are sandy and the bottoms are clay and the south side of hills are powdery but the north sides are sticky" type of fields.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Funny how OLF was just saying he would like a central filling bin like you run for seed so he wouldn’t have the issue of running out of seed irregularly between boxes based on the size of the seed. Then you point out the issue hasn’t gone away just moved. Maybe with all the technology you have you need a sensor that detects the seed left and transfers seed from the hopper with to the hopper without. Wishing you and your family the best. If you haven’t watched lately he’s been optimizing the 50yr old planter he’s running with further plans for next year.

The mid 2000s CCS planters had very few issues. The problems came when they went to all the electronic and pneumatic controls. The high speed option is nice, but adds a whole new layer of complexity as well. I'd like to see a side by side yield comparison of a bare bones 2008 planter planting at 6.5 mph vs a high speed with all the options planting at 9mph. My guess I'd that it would be barely noticeable.

An old 7000 like OLF or Duffy has will do a good job as well, you just have to maintain the meters and slow down to 5 mph or less. Finger pickups don't like speed.
