Daniel Engle That fish wasn't a 10 pounder though. Unless this man is 8 feet tall. He had an insane bag but give me a break. That's over half the FOUR DAY all-time weight record in the history of pro fishing. This was maybe a 35-40 pound bag, which is still awesome. But definitely not 65+ pounds haha
Its easy to catch gigantic non-native bass when they are fed a consistent diet of non-native, hatchery raised, rainbow trout their entire lives and all you have to do is put a swimbait that looks like a dumb doughbelly in front of them
+newyorkairsofter Don't give up. My son and I trek back into the state lands up here in Central NY to an old forgotten pond. I caught a 22 inch 6lb 2oz out of there and my son had a bigger one but it snapped his line just as it got to shore. They are there, just have to get to the out of the way spots that no one wants to walk to. Anymore it seems that everyone just wants to drive up get out of the car and fish 50 yards from their vehicle.
That 4th one was 8#s at the most.......Besides that , that is a killer stringer...My personal best is 36.52 # 5 fish limit.....I grew up fishing Casitas, Castaic, Cachuma, Piru , Isabella, Lopez.....805
grats butch i grew up in canyon country my full life and never really fished at castaic. i just been hitting the goon from shore. i been going for about 6 months just a little here and there, while trying to figure out the bite now more often that i can catch now. hopefully i can get a dd there one day. nice vid and tight lines. keep it up man you are a legend.
The only bigger rush than catching them...is letting them go! Seeing that tail fin flip as it swims away is the biggest thrill a fisherman can experience.
The world record is 22.4 lbs. A fish to be recorded has to be caught by the lip or in the mouth.The largest bass ever caught was 25.1 pounds,but was hooked on the side of the bass.That makes 22.4 lbs the world record. The 25.1 bass was caught in California.Just like these fish in the video. Later that year after the 25.1 fish was caught it died and was never able to be recorded for the record! check out "25 lb largemouth bass" for the whole story!
Yeah I know that it says that but if you look up Manabu Kurita World Record it is I think 26 pounds. The United States record would be 22.4 because in the video for the 25.1 it says that the catch did not count because it was a foul hook
Not even close man, typical butch Brown, his 7s start at 10. Dudes honestly a joke man, fished castaic lagoon in its heyday when every solid fish that was weighed in castaic lake was dumped in that tiny lagoon.
Well, judging by the looks of this guy and how he is talking, I am totally jealous. This video couldn’t have been more real. I once caught a 7’6’ on a rattletrap in freezing weather and thought I was a champ. Congrats sir. And feeling so good releasing these beauties makes you a real champion. Aside from all this, I am STILL jealous 😅

I'm assuming you meant that the trout make the bass fat. It's not a crock if you fish those reservoirs in California. These swimbaits work, and that's how they are catching those monster bass. These lures are not meant for fishing in New England or the Great Lakes.
Truly an amazing day on the water, regardless of location. No doubt California will produce the next world record largemouth. There has already been one 25 pounder caught in California (named Dottie) on Lake Dixon that was foul hooked. It was caught at around twenty pounds as well but was found floating a year after it was foul hooked. California already has the spotted bass record (10.48) and their lakes are ideal for bass, especially where the forage includes rainbow trout. We have good size bass here in Tennessee(state record is 15), but I'm a little jealous of California. Great job Butch.
+Greg V i fished lake dixon last summer and what an amazingly beautiful lake it is. the water was crystal clear and i could see MONSTER bass. plenty of 10+ pounders, but they were super smart and could see everything. only ended up catching one 3-4 lber but it was awesome to see them.
Impressive. Whether those were sampled (shocked) or otherwise it's very impressive. The ichthyologist that monitors our 8 private lakes that are stocked with Florida strain largemouth brought up a 10 plus this week out of shallow brush no doubt getting ready to spawn and an angler caught one over 12 last year in one. CA has it going on though in those San Diego area lakes, probably others as well. Salute.
I am really glad you released those fish. Fish like that need to be released back to make more lunkers. Some people ae just selfish and take lives of monster fish just to mount on their wall. It would be something to be proud of to have a huge bass mounted on your wall, but it feels even better knowing that you let a big fish go to get even bigger and to breed and make fish of the same size. Thank you.
This was a different Era. When giants never saw baits like this. The big swimbait game has come soo far its hard enough to land two giants let alone 5 or more in one day.
At the lakes by my house you can watch 15+ pounders chasing schools of trout but they wont touch anything. They'll follow swimbaits like once or twice and they swim away.
He did catch all of those, not in a stocked pond. Butch Brown is a pretty famous guy, he has spent countless hours studying big bass, where they live, what they eat etc. He specializes in trying to catch the world record bass. look at other vids of his, he is a master at catching these fish.

This is 10 years ago when butch solely fished castaic lagoon. The lagoon is a mere fraction if the size of castaic lake, and any sizable fish weighed in the lake would get dumped in the lagoon, hence why butch Brown can catch so many, hes not on mike longs level but not someone to really idolize. Just capitalized on a good spot really

Are you fishing big baits? My biggest on regular bass tackle (10-15 pound test, plastic worms, spinner baits, etc.) was 7 pounds after 20 years of fishing. Then I bought an 8 foot swimbait rod with 20-25 pound test and started throwing 8-10” the Huddleston deluxe (Deps glides also). That’s when everything changed. I’ll net 7-10 pounders all the time and my biggest is 12.4
@@alexm1841 For the waters I fish a 5 inch swim bait is sufficient for the larger fish. I've caught 9 pound wipers on 3 inch Bagley's and 60 pound catfish on the same Bagley's. I know what you mean how bait size affects your catch size, but I feel that if you get the bait to the fish they will not pass it up regardless of size.
@wannapork : Line size depends on what your are doing. If I am dropshotting or fishing a shakey head Iuse 6# Vicious Pro Elite Flurocarbon. JIg&Worms 15# Vicious Flurocabon, Crankbaits, 8#,10#,12#,15# vicous flurocarbon. There are tons of choices and lots of variables. I live in Michigan and the lines I have listed are my choices here. But depending on where you live in the country your options can change due to water color and the amount of heavy cover and type of structure you fish around.
this is in no way "easy" where I live (california) a 10 lb fish is the fish of a life time no doubt.California definitely holds monster bass but that does not mean they are easy to catch or even easy to find.Something like this is legendary and a true accomplishment
no joke. I live up Northern California and anything over 8lbs is a beauty. I've only caught 1 over 10lbs during spring. my other giants 6+lbs to 8.7lbs where all on Frogs.
fish grow big in them CA lakes. A lot of lakes are controlled heavily to produce large bass they also don't have a deep freeze which slows down bass feeding habits. its not so much the lure but the body of water.
