This recipe can be made in various flavors. I made plain buttermilk biscuits and Red Lobster cheese biscuits copycat by adding 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and garlic powder. Both are easy to make and delicious.
I doubled the recipe and divided one-half to make each biscuit's recipe because I made both at once. If making one type of biscuit, follow the recipe below.
Ingredients:
2+1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup (2 sticks) cold butter, diced
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup (4 tbsp) sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk, more or less as needed
melted butter for brushing
For cheddar garlic biscuits add the following to the dry mixture:
1-2 tsp garlic powder
3/4 cup to 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Method:
1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and baking powder together until combined.
2. Cut the butter into the flour mixture until assembling coarse crumbs using a fork or a pastry blender.
3. Add garlic powder, mix, and then add cheddar cheese. Mix well. Skip this step if making plain biscuits.
4. Add buttermilk and stir until it becomes a soft sticky dough, do not over-mix.
5. Scoop the dough onto a baking pan lined with parchment paper into a mound of about 2" dia.
6. Brush the biscuits with melted butter and bake in a preheated oven at 450 deg. F. for 10-12 minutes.
