Magic the Gathering will always have a place in my heart, but I also love exploring new TCGs. I started playing games in college after years of failing at sports and have been addicted ever since.
Pokemon started the craze and addiction - moving me away from baseball cards and into the world of constant organization.

I've always wondered what will happen if people start listening to all the RU-vidrs and totally stop ripping packs and so stores won't get the trade ins to sell singles.

If the singles demand increases and the sealed demand decreases that when you can get inverted EV and stores just start doing mass box openings.

Stores and online retailers/sellers are the most openers of sealed products, because they make more money by selling singles. This is how it’s always been for the last thirty years.

I love my Sheoldred, the Apocalypse but the people on SpellTable don't seem very happy about it when I use her as my commander I've noticed lol 🤓 Been using K'rrik and Kokusho lately.

I recently bought a few Sol Rings: the Kaladesh Masterpiece Sol Ring for $750, Human Sol Ring for $150, Dwarven Sol Ring for $200, and the Elven Sol Ring for $700. Just goes to show that even a card that has been printed into the ground can still sell for top dollar if WOTC gives it a special treatment that is also rare.

For me it's a cost issue. Decks are expensive and I only have so much money. A 150 dollar booster box does not build a good deck. 3 booster boxes does not build a good deck. But the same cost will build a meta pioneer deck and pick up a few singles for other decks. I'm currently finishing two pokemon binders. 151 and obsidian flames. Those started by buying sealed and have transitioned to singles as I have mostly completed them. When you consider price, fun, and accomplishing my goals, it makes sense to buy a few pokemon boxes. But magic boxes just don't make any sense for me most of the time. I have to want enough cards, those cards need to not all be mythic, and the price needs to low enough that I am willing to gamble. That criteria is increasingly not met by magic products.

I've been loving Lorcana because you can buy it the same way that you were buying Pokémon. Buy a few boxes, get a ton of C/UC to build decks with, a reasonable amount of R/SR, and a few Legendary. Plus you've always got the chance of pulling Enchanteds from each set, so there is an added incentive to purchase packs. Obviously, as with your Pokémon example, you get to the point where you need to finish up a playset or two of your chosen Legendaries. Additionally you might need to flesh out your R/SR playsets too. And of course, if you're also collecting a set like I am (foil only though) then there is some additional need to buy singles there too. But even so, I've yet to feel bad about buying several hundred dollars worth of packs and boxes of Lorcana. There was a point in time where I felt the same way about Magic. Now there's simply no real incentive for me to buy anything other than the exact singles that I need, at the lowest possible cost.

100% agree about cash flow. Bulk to me is almost a waste of time so our singles collection is kept small and generally only includes cards over 2$ or new releases

Hmm…..I wonder how long it will take before the sustained upward pressure on singles forces the buy prices up? May be a great time to HOLD all your singles.

Honestly I don’t know how stores get a lot of trade-in singles in this modern age. With Facebook everyone is a private seller. There are groups that sell in regions. Why trade in at 35 % cash and 60% credit when you can sell at 90%. As a small LGS owner in Mexico what I see are tons of private sellers going around buying and selling cards at everyone’s shop. Like shops invite other shops to come and sell cards at their shop😅 It’s not taboo here. That’s why I have to sell lots of packs. Yea I sell singles too just not a wicked lot. #GoBruins

Yeah, I'll never trade in to a store again. It's too easy to sell myself and get almost full value for the card.

Some people dont want to go through the hassle of selling online, messaging people, having people know where they live when shipping, etc... you have to do alot more work and invest time, or you could sell to a store for 1 smooth transaction
