Agreed. My stock integra GSR was much quicker than the old frs which was 15 years newer. But the handling is incredible after being able to drive a couple of them, but so was the integra. The new brz power is a night and day difference.

If you're looking for a daily driver that's simply a joy to drive, you'll be hard-pressed to find another new car that's a better value. Adding 10K for a base Z will get you more power, but that 30% increase in $ comes with lower handling characteristics. As always, ultimately buy what YOU want to buy and not what anyone says you SHOULD buy. That being said... Don't let the numbers on paper fool you, the HP/TQ increase is much more substantial then they suggest; The power that actually makes it to the wheels has improved massively. One dyno result from "King Motorsports Unlimited" has the Gen 1 making 162.63HP @ 6.62K and 130.68lb/ft @ 4.53K vs the Gen 2 with 209.03HP @ 7.03K and 175.97lb/ft @ 3.21K. That's a difference of 46.4HP and 45.29lb/ft. Aside from the handling, it felt like a completely different car. (I bought the 2018 Limited but haven't made the switch yet due to 'priorities'. However, I expect to do so by the end of the year.) 2014 could be the last year for this configuration as there's talk of the Turbo 1.6L 3-Cylinder from Toyota coming in as a Hybrid in 2015. I don't want to be pessimistic, but even if they increased hp/tq, I'm concerned it will lose the 18" center of gravity that I've fallen in love with. Its considered by many as the "Poor Man's Porsche", and having driven a buddy's 718 Boxster, I'd have to agree. Not to sound like a purist snob, but I can only recommend this car in it's MT 6-SPD form. The same day I test drove the manual, for a direct comparison to my Gen 1, I also drove the AT and was greatly disappointed; It felt sluggish and didn't seem to know what I wanted as the driver. The AT felt like something out of a FWD Ford Fusion rather than a RWD sports car. If an AT is mandatory for you, be-sure to get some good time in with it before purchasing. Your needs and priorities out of the car may be quite different from mine, resulting in an entirely different experience.

True, but the difference is in the parts that are easily changed (springs, dampers & sway bars). I like that the BRZ has aluminum front axle housings (knuckles) vs. steel on the 86.

From what I read, the new MR2 is coming in 2025, will be made with Suzuki and Daihatsu, and will be cheaper than the GR86! Its supposedly gonna be 2000lbs with the same engine the GR Corolla and GR Yaris have

you couldn't have been adjusted right then. im also that tall and i fit in mine just fine. very comfortably actually. Getting in is kind of rough hahaha but once you're in you're golden

@@mylifeatscho0l Right maybe, also noticed the inner door cards and plastics in the car were already falling apart for a 2023 car @ the Car show and I’d sat in a similar Nissan Z about a few hours before I got into the 2023 BRZ & the seating position was a lot more comfy and the interior felt good on my Palms. That BRZ experience was just sour for me & I might have to start looking at other competing cars in that segment now for my money

@@mylifeatscho0l I'd have to agree. It's surprisingly roomy considering it's size. I've heard also that the 'double bubble' on the roof is to gain that little bit of welcome headroom for taller drivers and for wearing a helmet on track. 👍

@@1anre It's not for everyone. Though I'll add that every car show I've been to that the cars are often very beat up. The Z is a fine car though, that's for sure!

Im 6'2 and it fits perfectly fine for me and have 2 click from max on moving seat back. So user error on your part or didnt recline seat a touch

@@ryanchase2873 None taken. I got the Crocs as lightweight camp shoes for multi-day motorcycle trail rides where I have to pack everything I need on a dirt bike. They're so comfy I find myself wearing them all the time. I can heel & toe in them too so I'm fine driving with them. Our puppy chewed one pretty good... I'll get camo next so you won't even see them! 😃

The Miata is a decent alternative but I'm not personally a fan of convertibles; especially for track use. You're right though, there's a disappointing variety of offerings for sports cars at a reasonable price like there used to be.

@@OAKOS i have an ND (my 2nd Miata) , and you're right, there's quite a bit of compromise to put up with to turn it into legit track use. So I'm keeping mine 'mildly modded' for the back-road fun days, and looking at a GR86 as my eventual replacement for my aging track car.
