The TRC Classic Freedom... a Knife i've had for literally over a year yet never yet spoke about. However, it quickly became one of my favourite knives ever! It's very light, super slicy, awesome edge retention and heat treatment and yet strong enough to baton. It's basically the ultimate EDC Knife!

Marrten, you've convinced me! I had to buy in Poland, but I scored Classic Freedom! I LOVE this knife! It's bigger than I thought it would be! It's just great to have it! Looking forward to five Barkies in 2022, but Don't know if Ultralight Bushcrafter can replace Classic Freedom!

It's good to see you break an expensive knife. I've seen a lot of people debase "Chinese" D2 and heat treat or the like whenever you hit a cheap knife and it snaps. The reality is that harder and more stainless knives are just more brittle no matter where the knife is from. And that certain kinds of high impacts and stresses will break them.

I’ve yet to see a WC knife snap as they are primarily made of AEB-L and Nitro-V. I’ve seen CPM-3v snap.

I've had a Classic Freedom for a while now and I agree with Maarten, it's a wonderful knife for just about everything you could reasonably ask a small knife to do. I like mine enough I've gone and picked up the bigger brother, the "This is Freedom". Unfortunately there's very few steels out there that can pack everything M390 has along with massive impact resistance (especially at 62hrc), it's just a tradeoff. And for most people, I do believe the benefits outweigh the cons by a long shot for a knife like this (pun intended, lol). And damn it guys, making me all hungry and stuff, haha. Great job as always.

Which one do you like better - the Classic Freedom or its bigger brother?

@@nrcha That's a difficult question, they're both great. I really enjoy the compact nature of the Classic Freedom, but I think I prefer the larger This is Freedom. It feels like a slightly more substantial knife, fills my hand better, but doesn't lose much of the finesse of the smaller one. Time will tell of course, but I can see myself wanting to grab for the larger of the two just due to it feeling better in my hand.

Classic Freedom is stylish and beautiful as Maarten said. I, for one, adore the choices made in designing and making this knife. It makes obvious that very refined, perfectionist knives are still meant to be used.. I am glad Classic Freedom is so large,even if This is Freedom is larger. I was pleasently surprised it's not more miniscule as I thought! I wouldn't push the knife, but be glad it's very sharp and edge holding. I have overbuilt knives to be careless with, but I want thin sharp knives to cut with! I'm glad TRC makes knives so carefully and we'll executed. I love knives and TRC loves their knives and show that to their customers! Not only looks, but performance and innovation! Things missing and wanted by me out if knives!!! Thank goodness!!! European knives are much better in tradition and guess that's what I want.

Thanks guys for this video, and for shooting this knife! It proves that this steel is not resistant enough, cause too hard, so "easily" breakable! For bushcraft, the best steel is 1095! I love TRC knives: i have an "APOCLYPSE"... But the classic freedom is not made for the same thing: thanks to your video, we know this knife can't be used for the same thing than the apo!

The Freedom can do everything that is needed for bushcraft. Its just they take their tests to the extreme. 1095 can lose out easily on the edge retention test and if they added corrosion resistant test yours would lose especially in a high humidity environment. No one is going to shoot a knife in the woods. Yet it does all the tasks no problem. Like they said. Its stupid not to buy the knife because of the shooting test.

why is like that , people talking : OWWW m390/Elmax those steels are bad to woods bcs are weak and will break with first try batoning.... than comes you boys and batoning HUGE (like for this size of knive ofc ) pice of wood and go throught this wood like throught butter.... can somebody tell me what it's reeally is with Elmax and M390 ? my favorite knive is made out of Elmax , 4,3mm thick, 3cm wide , blade lenght 11centimeter s and 58-59 HRC(ofc true fultang) , should i be afraid of using it to batoning batoning some not very big pice of wood like... lets say 6 milimeter thick ? and sorry for my not the best english , i still learning it :) Please boys answer me... and youre AWSOME!!!! one of best knives chanel on yt !

Go and beat the heck out of it. 4.3mm thick is alot. The trc classic freedom is 2.6mm thick and could handle any task, excluding tip test. ( I owned it)

Great video as always but one recommendation from my side: don‘t do destruction tests with a rifle anymore. The reason is that the knives often break and this is totally devaluating other peoples hard work (knifemaker). It‘s like coming someone over to your house and just deleting a few of your videos from your harddrive. Beside of that: keep on the good work!

I am really starting to fall for this knife. Really seems to punch above it’s weight - the batoning and throwing was a very tough test for such a thin n390 blade. Yet - the K-1s is very tempting too. Need to pick one for general hiking tasks.

I bought a Ka-Bar wrench knife for work, but like Marten , I keep finding myself taking it as an EDC because it lacks a real handle and is so thin. I think that is what makes a good EDC knife, apparently, overall thiness and about 7.5-8" for a fixie so it slips right in a pants pocket.

Guys, your air rifle test is nuts! Your FX is rated as a firearm in France and in Germany. You might want to try 20 joules and 7.5 joules rated airguns on thin knives. Passed a point, any knife will break if shot from the side, and that doesn't mean the steel is bad, as you know. Or try to split a pellet with the knife: good aiming, knife in front of a blank sheet of paper, and you've got yourselves two holes in the paper and a nice video shot! That won't destroy thin knives ;)

How would you say this knife compares to the LionSteel M4 in M390, which also has (I believe) 62 HRC, and a rounded spine (but you found to be great at throwing sparks from a fire steel) for much lower cost? They seem to be fairly similar styled blades.
