I cringed a bit seeing those B52s get chopped like that. I'm surprised they don't let space startups buy some of these planes to use as launch as test platforms.

That's probably because it may not be feasible to do so. The scrap metal value of those fuselages will be higher than what people are willing to pay for before restoration. It's mainly because those composite materials are some of the strongest alloys in the world and built to last decades. The jet engines however are almost always sold off as they are good for running many thousands of hours with proper maintenance. You rarely ever come across a first hand jet engine in a scrap yard.

We do not nor have we ever sold our modern bombers to anyone including allies. There's a reason you see f 35's and F-16's and F-4's with all sorts of countries but you don't see B-1's and B-52's we do not sell tactical bombers.

Tis the fate of most aircraft. 50 years from now where we're in our 7th generation of fighters looking to the 8th, that boneyard will be filled with F22s and F35s

The F22 is what birthed the push for rapid aviation development and the fact the U.S. refuses to sell any of them to any other country including our closest allies. And I'm willing to wager that there will be a lot of those people 50 years from now who will have their own current day fighter jets.

They do actually occasionally sell to the public. You have to call in though, and you'd have the US government poking around your records for a while. And if you're not a US citizen and from a non-NATO country, then they'll just flat out reject any offer you make.

there is a museum there. and you can tour parts of the base. and you can drive down kolb a road that goes through the base and you can quite a few of the aircraft usually c130s kc135s f16s for a little while you could see f14s. cool place and very very big

I been there in July last year to see the SR71 Blackbird, the F14 and the B52 in the flesh, close up for the first time at the museum. The place was sooooo vast I have to use the motorcycle as it takes too long to walk around the place, even to fill a B52 into the camera lens required going back afew hundred feet.

Austin Wright they've stopped using the Guillotine; and use K-12 Rescue saws now; and it gives them a Venerable crapton of Spare Parts to keep the 85 B-52s still in active Service alive well into the 2040s.

I drive past Davis Monthan Airforce Base all the time, Ol Jeremy had some strings pulled for him to get amongst the rows of aircraft, as he said, there are thousands of aircraft parked there just wasteing away, some are parted out, the rest just sit there rotting away in the extreme heat

Yes, they're almost combat ready. That's why they have that white coating on them--to protect them from wear and tear. Take off the coating, fix them up a bit, and they're ready to go. They're for sale, but usually only to friendly allied governments. A lot of them will be there in 20 years--and many already have. But like he said, the older ones often get used as drones. And some might get torn down simply for spare parts or materials.
