1 year for me, and only thing that failed so far is the ear cushions. The outer material of the cushion separated from the connection point near the inner rubber ring which holds them on. But it's not hard or expensive to get a replacement.
3 and a half years and have not had one single issue and I'm extremely rough on them. I'm extremely confused as to how he broke it these headphones are extremely durable.
@@jefflewis9590 they must be really rough with their stuff then. I had a pair of skullcandy crushers the wired ones and they lasted me 3-4 years of very rough use and they just now gave out because I got in a car wreck and they flew out the car
@@blyatkrypta7325 My headphones never travel. They sit in my drawer at work when they are not on my head.....on a ridiculously soft foam pad. They could not be treated more gently.
@@DoctorFixMaster oh was wasn't talking about these headphones on particular. I had the wired version of the crushers. The wireless ones had some odd reviews so I just stuck with the wired ones since the price went from 150$ to 50$
Well, I think it all depends on how you handle them, I take good care of them, I have had them for 2 years and I use them every day and they are good as new!
I'll say it again. I've had them for two years. They stay in a drawer at work. I never transport them, stuff them into a pack or any other abuse. They sit on a foam pad in my drawer with no stresses other then putting them on and taking them off. No headphones are more gently used than mine. I bet if I took a magnifying glass to yours, I could find cracks in exactly the same places. I'm not hoping it happens by any means, but my point with this video is that they are designed to fail.
Good for you. Mine broke the exact same way as shown in the video. On all four spots where this can happen (one ripped apart entirely, other three show thin splits). Had them for 1,5 years. Maybe different people have different habits of pulling them apart to put them on, but I pulled them in a way which puts stress on the broken parts. I still have warranty, so I will see if I can get replacement and then try to change my pulling technique. But in any case, this should not happen.
had mine for nearly 4, a little bass skipping, both of the ear cup holder thing, broke but I just fixed it with black tape and I barley notice it at all
Nov. 2022: I just received these headphones, new right out of the box, I haven’t even charged or use them yet but I’m hoping that the company have redesigned them to last longer. I also purchased a hard case to protect them as well.
It seems to me that people don't understand that a piece of plastic is like a spring it can only be flexed so man times before it breaks. I buy and repair these types of headphones weekly. I have 3 pairs of crusher evo 1 pair of crusher and 5 pairs of crusher original and 4 pairs of crusher wireless. They do offer parts btw you just have to get into contact with the processing area of the company not the marketing/customer service area
It's great news if customers can get parts from them now. To me it seems like not making those available to customers is a fatal flaw in their business model.
Had mine about 3 years without any cracking issues. And dropped them a few times. And even knocked them with heavy dumbbells a few times while training in the gym and no cracking issues.
@@krisb-travel well mines hasn't broke and I've trained with them and accidentally knocked them with heavy dumbbells a few times while working out. I've got the new evos now and still got the original ones that I've had for few years
@@dragonrid3r570 I definitely recommend the new crusher evos. Noticeable upgrade in build and sound quality, with different modes that you access through the skullcandy app (music , podcast and movie) And built in tracker with app that locates headphones if you can't find tem. And vocals tuned clearer. Even with slider on max.
go on amazon! They break after months. Skullcandy has a factory defect on these headphones but theyre not fixing it and knowingly still selling them.. Thousands of angry reviews on their amazon pages.
Thank you Mcnuggatron. Well said. People get emotionally attached to their headphones, quite often to the point where they lose touch with their ability to evaluate something scientifically or objectively, and they go off spouting judgments and criticisms to defend against someone whizzin on their favorite headphones. Those comments don't last very long here because they are missing the point of my post. It's nothing more than a helpful technical analysis for consumers. :)
The exact same thing just happened to me. I think that's why on all of the models that came after this pair they have swiveling ear cups. I just used industrial strength glue on mine and fixed them. They're fine... for now
My favorite response yet. :D I wish someone would do a 3D print part and post the file. Your headphones are now better than the original equipment. Freakin awesome!
go on amazon! Skullcandy has a factory defect on these headphones but theyre not fixing it and knowingly selling a faulty product.. Thousands of angry reviews on their amazon page.
I have had these $100 headphones for over 2 years, they are still working fine, if they break now, they were worth the $100, I don't know how people treat their headphones but to me they are fine and what the hell do you expect for $100?. They are way better than the much more expensive (and much more cheaply made) beats..now those are way overpriced. You can get those parts from Ebay. I don't expect cheap headphones to last a year let alone 2 but hey I guess I have been lucky. if you want long lasting headphones you will pay at least 2 to 300 or up to $500 but most people don't even know what good headphones are. Clue not overly bassy (beats, sckullcandy) Not overly shrilly (some cheap brands) but well balanced and you only start getting that balance at around $500-600 or more. (Studio headphones usually open).
UPDATE: The new model Crusher 360 wireless from Skullcandy appears to have a redesigned earcup cradle that addresses this problem. It has been significantly thickened and reshaped to handle the loads of normal use. They still don't offer replacement parts to customers, but at least they are paying attention to complaints and improving upon their designs accordingly.
@@synque7296 I don't know...I sure like how they sound. After doing my own mechanical fix, when it comes time to get a new pair, I'd consider their newer model that has enhancements that indicate they are listening to customers...albeit VERY slowly. The haptic bass is over the top, but they sound amazing with that turned completely off.
@@DoctorFixMaster I don't know why you "gringos", those headphones break so fast, huh, I think they demand too much of you or aren't very careful with your things, thinking that those headphones are unbreakable, I say this based on the experience of users here in Latin America . 🤣
@@DoctorFixMaster You are right, but the question is, why have I only seen all those hinge defects in those who bought the United States? At least here in Latin America it has good reviews, is it possible that skullcandy sells the defective products in the UNITED STATES? Users from that country I am reconsidering and encourage me to buy those headphones and pay 77 dollars for something defective, I will continue checking more reviews in my country, greetings!
From experience, after getting around 5 pairs of these from the warranty so I wouldn't have to buy another, something in the headphones will always stop working in a few months or the headphones themselves just break. Two of my pairs literally snapped in half at the hinge while I was taking them off.
I see all these people disagring with you but i agree. Despite the fact that you get a long time warranty thats it. I have had to replace them so many times and the amount of issues ive had with them is unreasonable. They are comfortable, have a warranty, and sound great but like you said they are designed to break. Sometimes the sound just stops working in one side, or the leather pops off, or plastic suddenly snaps in half, or they refuse to connect. The "help" center for skullcandy is useful either. It basically tella you about the headphones but no how to fix this issues.
I appreciate the input. I've been surprised by the animosity I've generated from some, but I'm only trying to help. The only topic in this video was the flawed design of the earcup cradle. Some have told me to quit complaining because there is a warranty, but people should know that for a company to be replacing headphones two or three times for free is an unsustainable business model. I'd rather see them show the insight to upgrade their designs and discover the power of listening to customers, including taking responsibility for design oversights and making replacement parts available to loyal customers. They've done nothing to thank their customers by hearing them. In my experience companies like that don't last long. The ones that kick their customers to the curb soon enough get kicked to the curb themselves. It's no one's fault but their own.
It's actually good to buy refurbished because the refurbished ones have a structure from the 2019 revision that is thicker and has metal rods through that peice they are also cheaper than new ones and guaranteed to have the new structure
wait, really? could i ask you from where did you get this info? im planning on buying them myself but idk the negative reviews regarding build quality and the like are keeping me from it, but then again there are people who still have the headphones in perfect shape, so idk really
@Zuirui KItsune well you'd think that that would solve it, but I have had these headphones for just under 2 years now, and I loved them so much. Never abused them and handled them like a baby, but when I tried to put them on last week, a small part of the hinge just snapped which made it come loose. I am really sad about it, but got warranty from the store where I bought thsm and am probably going to buy the crusher evo's. It seems like it really is just a production defect.
yep same with my crusher. i believe it is an intentional design for the headphone to break so you will have to buy again. little did the know that, that kind of business model is not welcome by consumers. mine did not even last a year, i was using it everyday.
I have a pair of Skullcandy earbuds and they've broken twice, each time after the warranty expired and Skullcandy sent me a new pair each time they broke.
Lol me to, I have JB Weld and tape holding my headband and hinges together, headband started failing after about a 1 yr of daily use, and the hinges failed 6 months after the headband did. But they still sound great after 3.5 yrs of use. But still, they were never dropped or physically abused, nothing other than putting them on my head and listening to music. I'll likely buy the new Evo's though, since the build quality seems to be a bit better.
this is so true,i also had the same problem,i had 2 units replaced, please listen people please, you just dont need to abuse this products, they dont even show any signs of tear, plz its with all skullcandy headphones the material is trush but the sound quality is tops
Well how did that happen, I have had skullcandy uproar wireless headphones for maybe 5 years and 5 months now, only thing that needs replacing is the earpad which I'm looking into. Note I have slept with them on and they are still solid. Idk how expensive they were 5 years ago cause they were a birthdayor Christmas present for me, but right now they're £21 on amazon so worth the price imo
That is a shame, i was about to get these headphones because they sound great, but after seeing many people complaining about this cracking issue i gave up.
Had mine about 3 years now. No cracking issue. I think it depends on how you take care of your things. You cant handle things roughly and not expect them to break. And definitely dont go to sleep wearing them lol I use cheap earbuds for that.
About 2 years of usage of mine and the only thing is that the pads are slowly loosing the surface material over the last few months and I can get replaced online
I asked one of the employes at the technoligy booth at target and they said that they have never had to get a new pair of test headphones for the crushers even after all the abuse they get from random people.
It's a slowly materializing fail. That's probably why. People with broken headphones don't go back to the store after a year or two. They deal with the manufacturer and the manufacturer's warranty by then. I'm not sure I'd rely on Target employees to get an accurate picture about what's going on with these.
@@DoctorFixMaster But the thing is how do I know I can rely on you to get a good picture of these headphones. 😂 ive heard people say they have fallen on them, droped them down stairs, and stepped on them and they say they are just fine. But also there are people saying they break SUPER easily and dont get them. I dont know which to belive 😵
@@lilpoptart6764 No one has to believe me. It isn't about that anyway. I don't care who believes me and who doesn't. My video demonstrates the weaknesses of the design. I have no financial motives for sharing this information. My channel here isn't that big. Information is power. Take it or leave it. Evaluate the information objectively on its own merits and on your own good judgment.
I’ve ran through 3 pairs of the crusher wireless and they keep breaking the same way not only that I’ve had to order about 6 replacement mic wires because they just stop working
@@synque7296 i just buy some for the Beats Solo they work fine but no they make the wire so thin and expect it not to break I have no idea why they don’t make replacement original cords
I bought my headphones on March 10th 2019. It has started tiny cracks in September. Now my head phones as of four days ago will no longer charge. So I can't use it wireless anymore. I did LOVE the sound, but it's unfortunate it did not last at least a complete year.
That never works with load bearing plastic. That's just the problem. Plastic should never be designed into anything that needs to flex at a pinch point. With crazy glue it just snaps apart again in exactly the same place.
While I agree that it would be nice to be offered replacement parts directly from the manufacturer, I strongly disagree with the overall message you sent. I've had the Crushers for well over 3 years so far, the material is very sturdy and either you must've used excessive force to break it like this, or happened to get a faulty model which is unlikely based on the fact that an overwhelming amount of people disagree with you and this issue isn't as widespread as you claim it to be.
I have two pairs the black and the white one, this thing happened to my black pair, the white ones are still good, may be the black plastic resist less, although I have been extra careful with the white pair
They honor their warranty, but it's a very bad business model. I'm sure all the replacements they have sent out have erased their profits on these things. It would be cheaper for them to fix the design flaw and pay attention to customer complaints.
I've had mine for 4 years now and I sleep with them on. And am absolutely brutal to them. And the never cracked once. Idk what you ran them over with but I don't recommend doing that. Headset and battery still strong. Can't wait to see what else they come out with.
That means they have shitty quality control in their manufacturing process, because I didn't abuse mine at all. They sit in a drawer on a foam pad when they are not on my head. No headphones were ever treated more gently. It's great that yours tolerated it. Mine and many others' didn't tolerate even normal usage. Hopefully they have corrected the problem by now.
I’ve had these about 6months. Still good but the bass power has decreased a good 50%. However I’ve used them hours on end for days at a time. Left them in the cold while i was at wirk a couple times. But maybe they just need a new battery
i have mine for a while,i dropped it,hit it,and nothing broke at all, over some time i got a rattling noise from the vibrator but i did a quick fix and they still work so good,no problems at high volume max bass,or with the plastic, bought the second hand at about 60$ and they work very good
@@based_sundowner2009 Hey there! Personally for me I like the bass on anything I listen to, and you have access to that bass slider for your liking. I've never had beats or Sony though so I couldn't say. It depends on your budget really. I think Beats and Sony are more popular than Skullcandy, and more expensive depending on what you get. With that said though, I love my Skullcandy headphones! 🙃
They publish a two year warranty. It's possible that replacing these for people is getting too costly for them. That's unfortunate, and also the subject of this video. They need to fix a flawed design. Otherwise people with quit buying from them. That's sad, because they are great headphones otherwise.
This is true. Same thing happened to me. I tried to glue it, few months after another part cracked and fell off. Its sad because bass and battery life-wise its better than Beats.
Built in obsolescence.. I was using mine this morning. Battery ran out. Plugged in. Nothing. Tried various means.. No light, no charge. 6 months old, careful..like I said, was listening this morning, no problem.
don't listen to him. I've had these headphones for 2 years and they are the absolute best thing I've ever bought. He probably treats them like crap and that's why they broke
Hi, can I ask you for help with these headphones? I need to know the full name of the CPU inside. It is the largest chip on the USB port side. the name starts with CSR (and then I couldn't read any more because I burned mine.) I have to order a replacement. This fixes the dead headphones problem. Thank you!
I've had mine for 2 years aswell. I use them daily, and have been for most of the duration I've had them. A few minutes ago, i moved the left earphone in front of my ear so I could hear something outside the headphones. Heard a snap, looked at it, and the slight flex caused it to break in the exact same place. Took a look at the other side, and geuss what? Same thing, but it hasn't quite let go yet. These are my first pair of decent headphones, and I've loved them the whole time. My opinion went from 5 to 2 stars instantly. I no longer recommend these headphones
You can 3d print this piece for $5ish and fix this issue. Quite a few Skull Candy models use this same bad design and can be fixed this way. Dont buy them, obviously, but if you stuff is broken, they can be easily and cheaply repaired.
That would be a great solution, but there are different models and so many parts, I tried that avenue first and turned up nothing, so I just glued them all the way around the earcups with a two part plastic bonding epoxy, which doesn't look nice, but I've been able to use them ever since.
Have the Skullcandy Riff $20, they have been squashed on moving boxes, thrown around for years, the plastic is super light and still sounding great (not saying it sound like sonys)
Agreed they aren't extremely durable i fixed mine multiple times the cups fall off the hinge it is where yours will most likey fail too if you baby them treat them carefully im sure you wouldn't have this issue
This guy is right, mine headphones broke after about 2000 hrs and they broke for no reason but they gived me brand new ones, I am very carefull with my electronics but this is jut bad design...
my skullcandy Crusher wireless broke on the same spot, I just contacted thr shop where I brought ir and I got my money back. Also I live in Germany, it was Saturn, and I had the Crushers 1 year and 10 month and used them 4-10 hours a day.
The left ear on my headphones stopped playing audio entirely. Bass still works on the left side. I checked the mono audio and it is all working properly but it won’t play. I checked if it was connectivity issues and there weren’t any. I’ve done all the troubleshooting and nothing is wrong with them. Any ideas?
If they are still under warranty, you could get in contact with customer service and get them replaced. Try using a plug in AUX cord in the auxiliary port. There might be something up with the mechanism in there that changes the connection from internal to external. Good luck!
Wow, I bought mine just a bit over 2 years ago and it broke on me today in exact the same spot and i came on youtube hoping there was a DIY fix on these. I loved these and I'm bummed out i cant fix it now.
Check the links at the end of the video. I posted a solution. I've been using mine for more than a year since mine broke. The fix isn't pretty, but its bulletproof and will allow you continued use of your headphones.
I just superglued them and they’ve lasted for a year after that. I think you’re being a bit dramatic, although I do agree that all sellers should offer 1st party replacement parts.
Dramatic? Really? Who is thrilled about a 150 dollar pair of headphones that malfunction just beyond the warranty period? And sharing useful technical information about certain design flaws isn't drama. This video is a tech share, not a whiny soapbox or tapdancing on stage for attention. I don't give a rats ass what people think. I'm just trying to be helpful towards anyone prepared to receive the information in the spirit it was intended. I'm not gunning for any emotional tangents here. The information is for people to do with as they see fit, not to generate meaningless labels for the presenter.
Bud i already bought it only about 3 months ago and the power button is already stuck inside, i use a card to turn it off/on, do you know how to fix that..appreciate the advice
Bummer! I haven't encountered that problem, so I don't have much to offer on that issue. The headset is pretty easy to disassemble if you want to take it apart to un stick the buttons.
I assure you, it isn't misuse. I used my headphones under the most gentle of conditions. They were designed to fail. I put them under no more stress that putting them on my head, which you should be able to do with headphones. :)
Seeing this while waiting for my crushers to arrive tomorrow :( idk that to doan...some people say it lasted them for years, while other say they broke after 2 weeks or less should i return them?
They are good about honoring their warranty, and the sound is terrific. I'm just very disappointed in the mechanical design of the earcup supports, which I've posted a video about fixing. I've listened to mine every day since then with zero trouble, but they don't look very nice. It's a crap shoot. Some seem to last forever and take all kinds of abuse, but some seem to fall apart right out of the box. Save your bar codes off the box and receipts.
I got them, but listen to ISIS REMIX with eminem and mac miller and u gonna see the unbalanced mid tone bass and low tone bass... the haptic drivers can only deliver low tone bass therefore the mid tones are delivered by the primary drivers and obviously they are not as loud, in that song u can definitively hear the difference...
I had a similar issue and you can just claim the warranty and send them in. My nephew broke like 3 pairs and they replaced them for him all 3 times. The last time they gave him a credit.
Yep. But that's an unsustainable business model for the company. It would be cheaper if they just fixed a simple design flaw and saved their paying customers the hassle. If they lose enough money, maybe that will get their attention when my video, or just plain old common sense, won't.
@@DoctorFixMaster Yes I understand what you're saying. They should fix that issue, but I'm addressing the fact that yours broke and for some reason you couldn't get a replacement. I'm not sure why they denied you (if you claimed it). I'm just saying that unlike other companies out there, they actually have good customer service and usually get you a credit or replacement. I had an issue literally last week with my Push wireless buds and I just got the credit today for the full MSRP of $100. I've had issues with other brands and different products and it's usually a little more hassle. That being said I do agree with you that for something in the price range of the Crusher's, they do need to have some better quality control and fix their design so that it's not breaking as often as I see them break.
I got the exact crusher wireless and after 3months of carefully using it broke where the screwed part elbow that makes it fold.. it really is designed to break so ppol will buy again... I was so carefull using it as i had been into alot of expensive headphones before i ended with this Crusher wireless...this was not even the most exoensive ones so I was like am gonna take care of this coz i dont wanna spend again on headphones... The sound quality is what I found the best for me beating my mx1000 and my bangOlofsen.
Same problem here. same crack. one side creked completely and other side cracks visible. Shamefull practice from Skullcandy side not to support the customers . It is now obvious that this product has a faulty design done by amateurs .
this headphone has a horrible construction. mine broke on the same place as yours, and broke the hinge. now here i am using superglue and printing 3d pieces to repair him. should have listened to you 1 year ago lol. and don't ever remove the earpads, this thing is very very very difficult to put on.

they'll break after a few months even. sadly speaking from experience just don't buy them buy the original version at the very least they don't break instantly
If you already own a pair, check out my other video which shows how to fix them. Electronically, they are great headphones. Mechanically, not so much. The fix works and although it isn't beautiful, they at least will work for you so you can get your use out of them.
Thats odd buddy. Mine broke, i sent it back to skullcandy and they sent me a new pair. They have covered there products for me. Complete opposite experience i have had with them. Weird
If you're tempted to comment here about how people don't take care of their crushers, put a strong magnifying glass on your own headphones, on the stress points I indicate in my video. If you've had them for any length of time, I'm betting that 9 times out of 10 you will see stress cracks appearing there when they are put under any kind of force (ie pulling the earcups apart like when you're putting them on or taking them off). It's your money, but you've been warned. You're welcome. :D
@Jonathan Arroyo I've never had any luck trying to glue load bearing plastic. If you look at the video for my fix, it uses plastic bonding two part epoxy...lots of it. That fix worked. I've been using my wireless crushers for almost a year since then.
you're not alone, last week mine has broken just like you on both side yesterday I glue it with kind of crazy glue (EU style) but it broke again I had bought almost 2 years ago. Due I glue it I lost my guarantee.
Well I don't know how you treated the headphones but it could be a manufacturing issue because mine are still good after 2 years of traveling in my school bag
That's likely, because I've seen many people report the same thing. Mine were treated with kid gloves. They must have been paying attention because not only did they correct the manufacturing problem, but their new designs (Crusher 340 wireless) have a redesigned earcup cradle that is visibly stronger and more robust.
Bummer. They have some serious quality control issues if they have pairing problems as well. Try holding down the + and - buttons at the same time for a few seconds until they beep. That resets them, and you can try again from square one. Sometimes that works for me.
You are so right about skullcandy sh!t they are no good. My headphones doesn't go loud at all so that makes them to me garbage because I can't even ride the city bus and listen to my music going to work damn people. Why make headphones that hardly go loud where I would like to stupid a$$ products! I'm done with them also.
These go on sale ALL the time sometimes to 50 dollars just buy more they might not be that durable but the base is like no other 2 of mine have broken but I grab them when they go on sale they have bad build quality but the base is amazing and ill buy them again
The orange charging light isn’t coming on when I charge them. Remind you this is my second pair because the same thing happened with the first pair. Its all of a sudden not coming on when I charge them.
