I was a general contractor for over 30 years. I have purchased hundreds of appliances. I am a big fan of scratch and dent outlets. The old Sears outlet is now American Freight. Lowes Outlet is in Southern California and a few other locations. I also negotiated a discount with Best Buy for customers who wanted high end items, ie Viking, Thermador etc.
Got a speed Queen back in 2016. Has agitate. Runs super great. Bought it from show room. Total sale prices and shipping with warranty, $800.00. Can't beat a Speed Queen
The more gadgets and circuit boards you got the more it cost to fix the simpler the better my motto I always like the older stuff especially in this day and time to each their own though
Sears used to have an appliance outlet store in Corona, CA, which was a life saver for us. We were able to buy a front loading washer and matching dryer for about $700 back in the late 1990s. They lasted until 2015. The dryer was actually still working and the person we gave it to is still using it today. Then in 2004, we needed a new refrigerator so off we went to the Sears Outlet. When we pulled up there was a big sign that said it was refrigerator sale day. 1/2 off the price. We were able to get a large Kenmore armoire refrigerator. It was $2200 in the store but $1200 in the outlet as there was a small dent in it. Since it was half off day, we got it for $600. It is still in our kitchen today. Unfortunately the outlet has since closed so not sure what we will do when the time comes for a new fridge.
I remember the Sears appliance outlets in Northern Cali. My parents and neighbors loved that place..so sad Sears, Montgomery Wards went out of business.
I loved my Sears w/d set I bought in ‘95. The washer conked out only 2 years ago, and the dryer STILL works. I wish I could find ANOTHER washer like that!
I bought an LG Tronn front loader at a scratch and dent 27 years ago and I am still using it. It had a scratch on the side, but you dont see it because it's in a closet with the dryer. I also saved 50% off the retail price for a brand new washer at the time.
Nah it's just the Maytag man was being put on ice because unlike years ago, eventually you'll need him because now their appliances do break down often. lol
All I know is that after spending a lot of money on a very nice Whirlpool washing machine 5 years ago, I've now had to have it repaired twice...with the last time not even fixing it. I'm tired of expensive crap that fails far too early. 40 years ago they made washers that lasted for 25 years. I'm getting a Speed Queen and I hope it's not the wrong choice.
It will be. Tiny capacity, poor cleaning performance and abysmal spin speed. They're designed for apartments and shared use settings. Just get an LG front load like consumer reports, Wirecutter and half a dozen other review outlets consistently find perform amazingly well and last 15-20 years.
I've had 2 Speed Queen machines (TR7 & TC5) and both had to go through many, many repairs. the TR7 even had to be replaced! SQ warranty also wanted to charge me $300 to come out and just *look* at the machine because I was more than 50 miles from a dealer :P I guess they really don't make them like they used to..
@@GuyWithTheDogs why is it that no other country in the world has all these supposed problems with front loaders? And why is it that when Americans get one and it saves them almost $4,000 in electricity compared to the abysmal spin speed of a top loader but it needs a repair after 14 years, they swear "never again" and then buy a whirlpool VMW trash-loader that only lasts 2.5 years so they buy another VMW trash-loader... And another, and another, never applying the same rigorous expectations they had for the front loader... It's like Americans will *sorta* try something new and trendy but deep down they truly want to justify buying things that are designed worse, perform worse, with worse reliability and worse efficiency, because it's "the way we've always done it"...
I like the freezer on top and frig below. Have a Kenmore with a dent on side. Its 21 yrs old. Paid $300.00. I clean the bottom from dust. The back is sealed. It comes with ice cube maker. I never use. I will not purchase brand new. Dents, stretches are good. Rebuilt nope. Buyer sent back nope.
A few months back me and my mom and I were looking for scrach and dent washers due to our old one starting to fail, local shop my mom went to with her dad and partied one of the current owners in high school (Same family still owns it) They didn't have any in stock. Had to get a new Samsung washer. Turns out we also had water pressure below 20psi when we thought we got a dud. Total of $2000 later we have a new washer and a useable shower. But I still wish we had found a scrach and dent.
@@bensappliancesandjunk It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Getting paid 8.30/hr sucked but I did learn skills I use even now doing that job for 3yrs.
Bought a Speed Queen TR7 set that was a scratch and dent. 3000 to 3500 for 1999. We went in for just a washer 1200 or so in white.. But for 700 more got the set and in black which is a new color for them.
Are there places that sell renovated appliances from the 60's to the 90's? I've looked online, but had a hard time finding anything other than a Craigslist-type want ads section. I never really liked black or white kitchen appliances, and stainless just feels so cold and industrial to me. I miss those old coppertone units from the 70s and 80s that gave a nice warm feeling to a kitchen. Would love to get that kind of thing back.
Love your videos Ben, I just bought the matching washer to the GE dryer you have on your thumbnail and showed many times in your video and it's on your spreadsheet. I absolutely love the washer and was saving up for the matching dryer. GFD85ESPNRS in Sapphire blue. I wish you were near upstate New York, I'd gladly pay your suggested selling price., what a deal! The local appliance stores get so much more! Keep up the great work.
What is the best reliable refrigerator for 2024? We have a 2004 Kenmore side-by-side and the icemaker quit so we bought a countertop icemaker for 100 bucks and works fine. I have no attention getting rid of the refrigerator until it dies. I’ve just. Pulled it out and got rid of dust underneath. It wasn’t much.
Who has $20k? Or warehouse space available to display seemingly new stuff? I'd love to buy and sell appliances. Living in a college town with oodles of rentals so there is always a landlord around!
Not everyone has $20k, which is why not everyone sells appliances. Its a high barrier to entry, but if you can figure it out, its a good business thus why I provided the video and financials. You can always start by repairing broken ones here and there in your garage for side hustle cash, and go from there.
Hate to break it to you big fella, but that first Samsung fridge you showed has a big ol' dent on left door halfway up close to middle. I'll give you $80 for it. 😆
What model of side by side refrigerator ( black preferred) would you buy? I am in market now. What model of ice machine would you buy? You mentioned in one of your videos that refrigerator WITHOUT ice Machine is best and buy a separate ice machine instead. Thank you
One thing to keep in mind when buying scratch and dent and returns. While you may get them for 30% of msrp, some units are forever on sale at big box stores for 40% off. Yes that still leaves you 30% to profit from but remember you're selling nearly new so you have to lower your selling price even more. Always price out the load before purchase!
It pays to shop around. My wife and I were looking for a dryer for one of our rental homes. We didn't want to spend a lot of money on it so we went to the local Habitat for Humanity to see if they had a refurbished dryer. Instead what we found was a room full of brand new Whirlpool commercial dryers still in the box. I have no idea why they were there but they originally sold for about $1,000 and we purchased one for $100 which included the senior discount. I expected to see scratches and dents or something but it was in perfect condition so I'm happy.
Of course you didn't want to spend a lot of money on it - when the person who buys the appliance isn't the one using it, there's absolutely no incentive to care about efficiency or quality or features. Which is why owning homes for the purposes of renting them out should be illegal. ONE PERSON = ONE HOUSE. IMPRISON ALL LANDLEECHES ON A PRISON COLONY. See how long all your hard work generating all that wealth out of thin air will sustain your little society.
What area do you live in? I would definitely like to get a few of those Whirlpool dryers. When you say commercial dryers, are you saying coin operated, with the keys and coinboxes? Thanks!
@@CodyL95 They provide hookups but then stipulate that any damage caused by tenant supplied appliances must be fully covered by tenant, even though LandLeeches *always* have coverage for it under their own insurance. Yet another way that they defraud the actually productive Americans out of their labor.
It's odd to me why you would show your wholesale prices. You are a brave and trusting soul. I bet you could take on investors and not have to lay out any cash of your own. I replaced the inlet valves on my G.E GFW650 and no more squeaks! Just waiting for the inverter to go. lol Already had the board, drain pump issue. When I bought that damn board they hadn't come down in price yet.
@@quadsnipershot Agree BUT you know some guy is going to come in and say " I saw your video and you paid $325 so I will give you $330 for your trouble but you have to deliver it" lol You know how the public is. They are horrible to deal with. I have a service business so I deal with people all day every day. 95% of my customers are great but 5% are horror stories. I'm probably not nearly as nice as Ben is.
We were able to score a customer returned Samsung NV51K7770 single wall oven (MSRP $3,000) new in the box for $600.00. The original customer special ordered it but neglected to measure their wall opening as did a second customer, so it was too wide for them.
I'm not sure why they sell them so cheap. I THINK, and this is 1000% my theory, that the big box stores get them cheap, but without much of a warranty, so they end up pushing their own warranties on them, which get yanked if/when they go to the return centers.
@@bensappliancesandjunk The big box stores also don't really maintain any appliance inventory. Most of the time, they drop ship directly from the manufacturer's regional distribution center.
@@Default78334 yup. Im trying to get pictures of those mega-warehouses for reference, but my haulaway guys haven't shown me the pics yet. IDK if its guarded info or not. Most MFGs have big incentives for creators like me to push sales through their factory-direct channels as they pay me WAY more for the referral than, say, Lowes.
@@bensappliancesandjunk For exterior views, you can check Google Maps/Streetview. Every time I drive down I-45 to Houston, I pass by the big Whirlpool distribution center in Wilmer, TX. There's also a big GE one in Grand Prairie.
Hey Ben, what do you think of Amana appliances? When i was a kid, they were the premium brand. I know they are owned by Whirpool now. But are they just rebranded Whirlpools, or are they lower units with lower quality parts? I'm looking for simple, no features, no digital nothing. Just reliable and low-cost, and thought about getting real basic Amana stuff. Thanks!
In general, just whirlpool rebrands with 1 or 2 less knobs. In general, I like them because the internals are identical to WPs, just a few dollars cheaper
@@bensappliancesandjunk -- Awesome. Thanks so much for the reply! I'm renovating my 600 sq ft condo, so need slightly smaller than average appliances (28-30 inch wide fridge, and such), and Amana makes al the right sizes.
Hi Ben!!! My husband and I have really enjoyed all of your videos, so thorough!! I have almost watched them all! We are building a house and need ALL of our appliances on a smaller budget. We found a scratch and dent DACOR French door counter depth fridge model# DRF36C500SR/DA for $1,200 -slight scratch and that’s it. Would you purchase this?? I watched your refrigerators video about ten times- HA! The ice is in the freezer, and the water is above, and yes, it is made in china, but it seems to get high ratings. Have you worked on this brand before? Thanks for reading!
I get it's not to be taken seriously, but being in a closed freezer is not an appropriate image to present. Although modern design and public education have greatly reduced incidences, a child suffocating after hiding in thrown out refrigerators is a tragedy no-one wants.
Refrigerators that led to deaths were banned in the 1958 in the US. If you can show me an instance of someone dying in the US from it for one manufactured afterwards, I'll gladly delete the scene.
@@bensappliancesandjunk It is true that the US passed a law requiring refrigerators/freezers to be openable from the inside. But a child can still suffocate in one. For example, it could tip over onto the door, or it may be modified (to accommodate a padlock) by an owner. I did not ask you to delete the scene. f you are fine with it, it's your channel, your video. All I said that it's a bad look. It's just a thought.
Ben, as a man of honour in this time of nihilism and Godless leftist deceit and lies, may our Good Father God increase you in the knowledge of your trade receiving the wisdom and anointing of Bezalel (Exodus 35) and in Blessing others with your integrity may it come back to you many times in Jesus Name!!!
