What your looking at is a Dodge Mirada/Magnum concept car that was custom built by Chrysler and Creative Industries in the late 70's for the 1980 International Auto Show. By taking ownership of the car and showing it to the enthusiast we hope to make a lot of interesting discoveries about Chryslers History and show how, where, when and why this car still exists. First things first I'll be fixing its dead battery and tending to other miniscule issues along the way.

The first Dodge Mirada I saw was on the cover of Motor Trend magazine in Taupo, New Zealand. I decided then and there that when I got home that was what I was going to buy. And that's exactly what happened. I loved that car wish I still had it.

You didn't show how the headlight doors work. Are they electrically operated or manual?

I believe those are just covers. Who knows , maybe no headlights under there.

Such an awesome car. A real treasure.

Well it's interesting. The hidden headlights are unique, so is the "non-padded" roofline. The dechromed tail lights look nice too. I had always wished they made the car in a real convertible configuration.

Same here. I really Enjoyed a Cordoba I owned this body style. I always wanted a convertible version.

That is so neat. I drove a 1980 Chrysler Cordoba from 2002-2003 & this thing looks like it's sinister "dark side" brother!

Definitely beautiful car I would probably sell my 72 Olds Cutlass Supreme for that dodge Mirada. My parents used to own one black with red interior 360 engine under the hood

I saw it running around the Highland Park complex back in the day. Working there we were able to see all these cars at one time or another. I worked at Chrysler Engineering from 1965 to 2007.

I had a 80 Mirada in my day .It had a slant 6 with a reworked distributor curve and Stromberg 2 barrel . I reworked the exhaust also. This gave me an incredible 42 mpg on the highway , 24 in the city , a huge improvement from the stock mileage . With the T bar roof , I could cruise those summer nights till dawn , cool-n-cheap . It is long gone , but I still have great memories and a spare T roof in my garage rafters if some is interested . It was silver also , without lean burn , which was a problem on the 8 cyl . Some Miradas became muscled up with 340 or 440's . Way back then , I had a 392 cross ram back up , but sold it for big bucks .

The 6 was no tire burner ( thank God ) but was very dependable and could not care less if I had a Hemi .

My parents had an Aspen wagon for 30+ years (i owned it for a while). I've always had a soft spot for all the related F/M/J cars. Can't wait to see more of this car and more of what you uncover about it. Subscribed.

I remember this at 1980 Chicago Auto Show, isn't called "International...", that's Detroit's. Pic was also in car magazines.

You are probably right that it was supposed to be crushed because at the time Lee Iacocca was in charge and he hated anything real drive that Chrysler had and just put up with it and didn't improve or upgrade the rear wheel cars at all which was a shame because the Cordoba and Mirada could very well competed well with the Monte Carlos Oldsmobile Cutlas, Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougars of the day.
@johndrake2729
@johndrake2729 Год назад
Where did you hear he hated rear wheel drive cars? Isn't this the same guy who created the Mustang and the Continental Mark III?
@12yearssober
@12yearssober Год назад
I wouldn't say he hated rear wheel drive. He was there to pull Chrysler back from the edge of bankruptcy. He made decisions based on that. The future was in front wheel drive and he knew they had to follow the trend. Personally I despise front wheel drive however I understand why manufacturers went away from rear drive.

Beautiful car. I Would change the oil before you put to many miles on it. Your probably going to have to replace all the seals because it's going to leak like a seive.😊

I clicked on this video because I thought you had found the Dodge Mirada concept car that had a jet engine under the hood. I couldn't find any information about that car except for one image and a reference to it on the 10th page of google.

There was 1 Turbine Mirada built and it was a production car from 1981 so no special body modifications. There was also an Aspen and a Satellite with a Turbine engine, also just stock production cars that were pulled from the line for a drivetrain swap. The only heavily modified Turbine “Concept Car” was the Turbo Silver 1977 Chrysler Lebaron with the flush bumpers and narrowed grill with concealed headlights. As far as I’m aware the Lebaron still exists however it’s not available for display and hasn’t been seen in years. It’s in a poor state and no longer runs. The other test vehicles had the motors pulled and were eventually crushed.

@@StreetSceneMotorsports I'm making a list of every turbine powered road vehicle (although there are about 7 race cars.) and I've found some pretty neat and wierd stuff. Did you know there were fire trucks that made it into service, and even a vw bus? Pretty neat. Thanks for the info, I love your videos guys!

It has the 81 to 83 Chrysler Imperial front end on a Mirada. I thought it was a Imperial at first till I saw the rear of the car.

Nice find, You can see the influence it had on alot of the front wheel drive cars, especially the front end. It would have been nice if it had a Slant 6.

It’s currently jointly owned between a friend and I. Ultimately we’d part ways with it if we found the rite collection for it or a museum that would maintain and care for it and let me people see it and learn it’s story.
