I absolutely love this phone.... I don't give a damn about Specs or Camera because to be honest it's 2021, every phone over $500 is super fast and has a decent camera for most situations... The main selling points is not the Camera or the Specs: (1.) it's the Brand New Book-like form factor that looks like nothing else on the market. (2.) the sheer screen real estate, More than any phone including the Z-Fold 2. (3.) The fact that you can use two apps at the same time ALL THE TIME... I could watch Netflix while playing Chess... Without stopping the movie or watching it on some tiny screen.... That's where this phone kills any iPhone and any Galaxy device... Two apps at once. Those reasons are TOTALLY worth paying $1,500 to me. Screw higher Specs and Camera... Nobody's going to care if you get a phone with a higher specs and Camera, it looks like any other Boring Glass Slab phone.. The Surface Duo doesn't. EVERYONE will Drool over the Duo when they see it in public, Nobody will drool over the S21 Ultra. 😆😆😆
that was powerful advocacy; for me, the Microsoft suite is more important than even the phone itself, because I hate updating them and buying them on Apple computers. I only like Apple computers. I'm a mature student. My favourite apps are Tinder and Word. I hate photos.
But that’s the point, if it’s not optimized , as it’s not a huge seller, companies aren’t going to optimize for a niche device....big specs can make up for the poor optimization. Which is the current situation. IOS is so optimized due to a small amount of similar devices. Android is an ocean of devices....
I've had my duo for a few days now. I knew there'd be some trade offs in the specs and possibly some bugs but I took the plunge and got this as my only everyday phone. It seems the bugs have been removed by updates. What I thought were bugs were just user error, learning the new swiping and gestures. Once I got this down it works great. I'm not a big camera user so it works fine for me. I did find that I didn't know how much better casual surfing and productivity would be on two screens. I just didn't realize how much I liked it till I had to use my wife's iphone for a few hours. It's like working on a two monitor pc at work and then going back to a one monitor pc. It just sucks. I really didn't know if I'd hate this or like it. My curiosity compelled me and I have no regrets. I can't see going back to a one screen phone again. Using and holding this thing is like holding a piece of art in your hands. I just cannot put it down.
At 945 , I would say that if you do a lot of screen “surfing” and do not use the camera for many personal pictures etc then yes it’s worth it! You still do have a 14 day return at least with BB.
Camera and glitchy software really did it for me. I love the screen real estate , but as a secondary device I just couldn’t keep a device that was “behind” for that money.
Pre-ordered and had it as a secondary device...but....I mainly use it for work(managing bar/restaurant) and its better to have that at work, while I enforce limited cell use-knowing I won't get any notifications or random calls. It's also perfect for rom hacks :P sure the insides aren't up to date with modern phones but for what small devices r used for....it does just fine, I'm hopeful in supporting new spins. Ps; my main phone is the fold 2.....insides r great....and the tablet mode is great....carrying it....having that $2000 bulk in ur pocket...that weight...so many times I wondered if I should go by to my s10....or just go full duo.
