Excellent! Could help focus on the equipment you really need and would get most use out of and prevent wastage on accessories which are unnecessary.

Nice video! I'm looking to buy a first camera, and took your point 1 to heart. Been using a Sony Xperia 5 iii for a year and editing the raws to see if I like photography as a hobby and whether a phone was enough. Ran into three specific problems where it wasn't enough for me (not enough reach during travel, not enough compression and bokeh for portraits, bad low light performance). Now I'm in the market for either a Fuji X-T5 or Sony A6700 because of portability for travel and relatively low cost. Gonna rent both once the Sony's more widely available and make a choice.

Thanks Gregory! And thanks for such a detailed comment - really interesting to hear your experience! Yeah, it sounds like you would benefit from a dedicated camera as it sounds like you've reached the limit to what you can do with your phone. Ooh, both cameras are honestly excellent, so you won't go wrong with either choice, but hopefully the questions in this video help you to make the decision! I'd recommend looking into the lenses that are available for each system and trying to anticipate what you might need in the future. Just from my personal experience, I switched to Sony a couple of years ago, and I haven't looked back since - I've had a fantastic experience with their cameras and the main thing I like is how relatively accessible their lenses are because there are so many to choose from. Hope this helps, but would love to know what you end up going for!

Heya! I am sort of new to photography and am looking into getting more into it. Our family has had a Sony A65 for about a decade, and I was thinking of using that. Do you think that would be enough in the long term? I noticed it did not have the best low light performance, which is why I am asking! Thank you for the awesome explanations and videos :)

Hey - thanks for the comment and thanks so much for the kind words 😊 the A65 might be good to get started with to figure out the basics of photographer (aperture, shutter speed, ISO etc.) but seeing as Sony are no longer making lenses etc. for the A-mount, you might be better pretty quickly investing in an entry level E-mount camera, such as the a6000, or the ZV-E10, so you can start investing in lenses for a system that you have room to grow in, if that makes sense! Once you develop as a photographer, you can then get a better camera body and upgrade your lenses etc. Just my thoughts, but it really depends on how serious you want to get with your photography - it's always good to experiment with what you have right now and make sure you actually enjoy it before you start to invest your money into it. Photography isn't a cheap hobby at the end of the day haha! Hope this helps 😊

@@arranpbrown Thank you! I have been using the A65 for a couple months now, and I would like to go into photography more professionally, so it definitely would be worth investing some more. Out of the ones you recommended, I would probably go with an a6000 since I wan’t to focus more on photography rather than video. I also have a few decent lenses for the A65, and I was wondering if I could use an adaptor and continue using those with the new camera. Would I compromise on the quality of the lenses by doing so?

@fransschoolstuff6939 no worries! So the main issue with using adapting the A-mount lenses is that it doesn't look like there is a cheap way to adapt the lenses whilst maintaining the autofocus functionality - in my opinion, it might be worth trying to sell the lenses and put the money towards investing into a decent lens for the a6000, if you end up picking that up. I use the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 with my ZV-E10, and while it seems fairly expensive on the face of it - it's a fantastic and versatile lens! Or if you are considering doing portrait photography, you could look into something like the Sigma 56mm f/1.4, which is an excellent lens for portraits, or even Sony's cheapest E-mount lens (which I have and love), the 50mm f/1.8 would be a great option, and it works on full frame and APS-C if you ever want to upgrade to a full-frame camera. Either way, considering you are looking to try and get into photography more professionally, it's going to make your life a whole lot easier using a newer system that supports good autofocus and other modern and super helpful features, and starting to invest in something you can grow with as your skills develop as a photographer. Hopefully that makes sense!
