Great videos Gary, and its good to see respect for the quarry, with every fish gently returned to fight another day, I've been to Galway twice but never fished Lough Corrib , maybe some day!!!.
Gary, cheers. I've been going there 27 years and have yet to pull 14 trout out in one day! I'm on the way down tomorrow so am sure that there'll be some action between buzzers, olives and mayfly!
Gary OBrien There were some great olive hatches. At one stage for about 20 minutes, in the middle of Baurisheen bay, we had fish rising all around the boat as we drifted - it was like a buzzer hatch or the caenis at 6am. Myself and a friend had a few then and in between the hatches I broke a couple along the shore on buzzers - frustrating. Two days after that mad hatch the same thing happened but with a strong westerly breeze (previously light easterly) and there wasn't a fish in sight. I'll never understand why that happens!
Thanks for the video Gary. It looks like you had an exceptional day. Can you give an idea of how you choose your location and how it impacts your tactics on depth, retrieve, #flies etc? I may be asking too much! I'm in Baurisheen next weekend and if the dries fail it would be nice to rely on buzzers for a few fish.
James Magrane To be honest went you've been on the lake for years you know what areas will fish and in what weather conditions. Weather is the number one factor from my experience when it comes to trout on Corrib this time of year. When you get a nice light breeze and fly coming off buzzer work really well. You should get some good fishing up that side....tight lines.
Niklas Price I remember a few years back we seen a serious amount of fish breaking the surface but when we got close realized they were all bream, there was hundreds of them....
Niklas Price At 6am last summer I was fishing the caenis in Baurisheen bay and saw a few large fish rise. I covered them and followed them as they moved into deeper water. I rowed ahead of the fish (their path was very predictable) for about 10 minutes, casting in front of them as they went only to realise that I was chasing after a shoal of 4 - 6 large bream!! I was left to row back and reflect on my naivety!! Not exactly what I got up early for but a funny story! I have done a lot of fly fishing for roach and rudd around the bay and have had a lot of fun doing it. It's best in the morning around the rushes. By 11am they stop feeding. I've had rudd and hybrids to 1 - 1.5lbs doing it. Also, I've heard that the northern part of the lake can yield some excellent coarse fishing but am not sure of the exact spots. Hope that helps.
