AI absolutely can replace 99.9% of the content at BuzzFeed. What it can't replace though, is those same employees constantly posting to social media trying to keep BuzzFeed alive. Like how on LinkedIn most of the posts are people sharing articles written by their job's PR department. Like "I'm so blessed to be working at a company where [ERROR: 404 NOT FOUND]." ...and that one legit war reporter who was using this as a stepping stone to get on at the NYT or whatever, it's a tough industry.
@@ChesterManfredyeah AI can definitely be super helpful for a lot of stuff but there are just some things that it shouldn't replace, especially this early in its development.
It reminds me of this one AskReddit post. Random Reddit user: “When BuzzFeed makes a *only kids from the 2010’s will remember* list what will be on it?” Another random Reddit user: ”BuzzFeed.”
Saw that post on one of SorrowTV's, a youtuber/reddit narrator, video back in 4 or 5 years (r/murderedbywords was it?). Can't believed how funny but accurate the statement is.
@@07kamichamakarinwhat even happened to SorrowTV anyways? Last I checked there was copyright claim fighting and he handled things but never came back.
1:59 Buzzfeed was synonymous with online MILLENIAL culture, and now that millenial culture has been dunked on more recently, the influence and popularity of Buzzfeed isn't the same as it was in the early/mid-2010s. Buzzfeed lost its grip, and Insider swooped in to take their spot from them one way or another.
The problem with that analysis is that it assumes that BuzzFeed was always cool. It used to be popular but it was never cool. It was dunked on all the time. Now it's lame and unpopular for the exact same reason that it was lame and popular.
not that millenial culture was dunked on. it's just that buzzfeed made some questionable videos with a motive not appreciated by the internet in like 2016 and buzzfeed was memed into oblivion and never recovered
Unpopular opinion: Kyra Kupetsky (creator of Chikn nuggit) should leave buzzfeed and move to Cartoon network to create a full fledged chikn nuggit show in the future since their current company funder is dying.
People here don't seem to understand that Buzzfeed News is a different entity than the listicle/gossip part of the larger Buzzfeed organization. They've won many awards for their investigative journalism (a Pulitzer for their work investigating the Uyghur internment camps in China), and have broken many major news stories such as the FinCEN files leak, the Kevin Spacey scandals, and Breitbart's collaborations with white supremacist/neo-Nazi groups. Them shutting down is not a good thing.
@@BigLennyBekowski it was about Arfid which a eating disorder I suffer with and it was actually very accurate. Compared to other articles I’ve read about it this one actually had the most information and explained it well. It wasn’t perfect but it was better than the rest.
Remember Buzzfeed and Buzzfeed News are two different groups. One does those silly quizzes, the other is a serious and investigate real issues like the Uyghur camps.
But seriously! Why would they link a serious news agency to the name "BuzzFeed"? I developed an extreme aversion to anything posted by BuzzFeed in the early 2010s, because from what I can remember they exclusively posted low effort clickbait trash! I might have given them a chance if it wasn't for the loaded name.
Sure they "investigate" real issues but that's besides the point. Kids can play detective by "investigating" real crimes, but I'm not going to trust their conclusions in the slightest.
I mean really the problem with Buzzfeed was the stigma everyone had against it from the top ten list schlock that was full of ads everywhere. It was like the digital age Cosmopolitan with all of the articles.
Im divided on that because on one hand buzzfeed would make really stupid articles and on the other buzzfeed news would cover actual crimes being commited on the gaming industry like that time they exposed nicalis EDIT:seens like it was kotaku and not buzzfeed that did it Well my point still stands somewhat as they would post those stupid articles and then post some serious stuff later
you mean most gaming news, like, kotaku is infamous for publishing complete insanity and then coming up with extremely detailed reports about workplace mismanagement. iirc they were some of the first to report on crunch culture
@@whodis4097 Nicalis is not an individual but a company They are mainly responsible for publishing indie games like VVVVV, cave story and binding of isaac Though they are notorios for bad business practices and as mentioned work place harassement They are more famous for having stolen the cave store IP from the guy who made it by tricking him into signing the contract when they re-released the game on the wii
The only reason I want Buzzfeed to not die is the animations. I hope that if Buzzfeed shuts down, the animation studios can go to another place for funding and not go down with the ship. (The news part of Buzzfeed isn't the same as Buzzfeed Entertainment. We'll still get "What kind of dust particle are you?" quizzes)
Seems like a private equity move tbh. Purchase company + acquire stocks -> artificially giga-inflate stocks via "groundbreaking" unsustainable cost-saving measures (replacing employees with AI) + stock buybacks -> arrange a deal with stock shorting companies to rig the market and make even more $ -> sell stocks and company ownership at peak value to some schmuck -> rake in the profits as this unsustainable inflated mess of a company and whatever employees are left end up starving -> move on to the next company. Man, I didn't like buzzfeed but their roots were in the right place. Shame they also fell victim to the billionaire vampires who figured out destroying businesses was far more profitable than creating them
For every one article they tried to do legitimate journalism on, there was a mass of manipulative clickbait trash. Few were willing to swim through trash to get one nice read. None of this is remotely surprising.
Guys, BuzzFeed News is gone, not BuzzFeed. It just means that the journalistic reporting will be gone, but the clickbaity crap articles will stay (the actual cash cow), so even if you hate them it's way too early to celebrate
It obviously sucks allot that people are going to loose their jobs but buzzfeed from the leadership standards and direction is just absolutely awful and i hated most of their videos and articles, do to the fact they lacked truths *Plus* allot of anti-men subjects!
@@GoldGalaxianFin Buzzfeed is not shutting down, Buzzfeed news which is a separate org is shutting down. Buzzfeed news was a well-respected organization.
