"But if we don’t march on and fight till dawn, How lost it all will be! They’ll take it all, leave us dead against the wall, And our sons will never be free..." I'm not ashamed to admit I cried at this part. My great uncle was a young medical officer in the Greek Army when Mussolini invaded in 1940. He went to the front in the north and fought the Italian Army there. Since he was so young, his job was to lead his platoon into enemy fire, get very close to the enemy lines, and rescue their brothers who were wounded and dying by giving them medical treatment and then moving them back to their own lines. He saved so many lives with his own two hands, and due to this he was given two weeks to go home and see his family. While he was away at home, the Germans invaded, cut off his unit in Albania, and he was forced to remain on the island as the country finally fell to the invaders. Eventually, he was able to find passage to Cairo and rejoin the Greek Army in Exile there. With them, he took part in the North Africa Campaign. At one point he was at a field hospital near the front line, operating on a wounded soldier with an Australian medic while artillery was landing within a kilometer of them. He supported a man's heart in his hands while under enemy fire. He saw the end of the Africa Campaign in 1943. In 1944, Greece was liberated, and he went home. Not long after he arrived back in Greece, the Civil War began. The Communist resistance cells in Greece refused to disarm after the Axis retreat and used their weapons against the government. My great uncle was transferred to Epirus where the fighting became most intense. He saw more battles there, saw many good men die both in battle and in the field hospitals. He used to say that the Civil War was worse than anything he had ever lived through. At one point the only thing that kept him going was the thought of his nine-year-old sister - my grandmother - having to live in a country run by the Communists, how he and his family would be starved or killed if the Communists won. Eventually, though, the Civil War did end in 1949 in a Communist defeat. After almost ten years, our country knew peace. My great uncle wasn't the only one who this happened to. He was just one of many thousands of our countrymen who had a similar set of experiences. These men fought not simply one enemy, but several. They didn't know peace for almost ten years. Many of them didn't live to see the end of it. Many of those who did lived with the horrors for the rest of their lives. I had the privilege of meeting a few of them, and given all that had happened, every single one said they would do it again if they had to. I think of them as I listen to this song. They did it for us, for their families and their homeland so we could all be free. They fought and bled so that we could live. So that we could have our home. I love you, Uncle Dimitris. Rest knowing that we will uphold the sacrifice you and yours made for us.

There’s nothing like singing this song out loud along with some like-minded brothers. Really boosts morale and honestly makes you pissed off at how far this country has fallen. This is not the freedom we were promised.

My old family sided with white army partisans in the Russian civil war back in 1917, and I know this song is about america but it really hits hard thinking about my family. They became a group displaced with no home, they were seen as an evil to be expelled by their own friends and niehbors, yet they didnt give up hope that they would return home again. When they lost they left to make a new life in Poland, until the Communists followed after them and went after their home again, despite this they still fought on. Eventually in the face of Soviet domination they went to america so their family could live in peace. My family has given up so much to allow me to live free, and their sacrifices arent something Im going to let be in vain. I will always be ready to stand up for the freedom of our future generations, just as my forefathers did for me. By god we'll have a home again.

This song is more relevant now, than most know. May the light give men the strength in their hearts to do what must be done. The shadows who lead from darkened bloody thrones must be despelled. Gaia and humanity will ascend by right, by the way of love and light.

When the headlines smack of another attack, not the last and not the worst. I always think back to the Manchester Arena bombing and the London bride attack. It's a nice thought knowing most terror plots get stopped by British counter-terrorism units, but it still hurts to know some get through. A second amendment, and we Britons would suffer less.
