It was not fully complete and waiting for an air filter housing to come from Turkey but Hansons old building was down and took both tippers there for a bit of photo and video fun.
Spend my school holidays in the cab of one of these my dad always let me drive on side with him standing on the steps at the door best days of my child hood
My dad had one of these back in the 80 an I remember driving it on the farm as a kid .. I'm only now doing my hgv licence .. hopefully one day I want to get one of these an show it for my late father .. so many memories sat in one of these as a kid ..
I had 20 plus years driving them all over England from tipper flat beds furniture vans and tractor unit one of the best trucks Ford made started my trucking career
The county's Councils in Ireland loved these 6x4 v8 d series they lead an easy life with them , I would not be surprised if that found its way over, it looks to have lead an easy life even though its restored
My father drove one , that was a V8 Perkins , we did all the markets across the country , he had the bench seat and i had the footwell, was a bit uncomfortable, in the summer I slept on the trailer , the good old days !
I worked at Langley in Special Vehicle Operations during the time this chassis would have been built, one of the SVO options for a tandem drive was known as 'twin spring' and consisted of a pivoting upper and lower taper leaf spring attached to the axles with gimbals. It was designed to give maximum axle articulation and was expensive but I believe it was a tad fragile and warrantee claims were common. The Langley plant was ex Hawker Siddeley and produced Hurricanes during the war which were flown out from an airstrip behind the factory.

Took my class 2 in an identical lorry and drove quite a few, loverly heaters in them, but the engines were a bit under powered but I preferred them to the rather cramped TKs
Can't ever remember seeing an (intake?) filter like that .. have you modified it from original .. I worked on D series when they first appeared .. nice restoration .. cheers.
I have the correct one on now Julian which is like a 15ltr drum on its side and came from Turkey, but this filter from a compresssor fitted the air intake pipe nicely until i could get the correct one etc.
@@octopus680 is the correct position of the air filter on this model the same as it was on Cummins engined variant on those, it was mounted horizontally behind the left side of the cab?
