BYAKUYA KUCHIKI vs PEPE WACCABRADA - Bleach Battle ANALYSIS | Toxic Love Affair 

Well...here we are, Byakuya vs Pepe. Definitely one of the weirdest fights in Bleach. What do you think of the battle between these two? How would you change it up? Let me know your thoughts below!

So there’s Shunsui who always fights enemies who uses guns and Byakuya who fights enemies who use love and manipulation techniques. Any other pattern?

I always found it funny that Byakuya fought Zommari who basically had the same ability but wasn't the one finishing Pepe off with his Bankai

I feel like they’re gonna give pepe’s holy form a dark, sort of toxic pink color. Similar to mask de masculine’s crimson red

I don't think Kubo is changing what Pepe can do with Hisagi; something extremely similar happens to Rin when Pepe first attacks the 12th division barracks. Rin stabs Hiyosu while still seemingly in control of his mind, which is what Kubo seems to be showing with Hisagi later on

Full honesty Pepe is weird as hell and very off putting, but the way his power works and all the implications it has… really feels like he was meant for more, but got hit with the “okay wrap it up”

If anything I wish they would have focused more on Byakuya vs Robert, Nanana and Candace. It’d be nice to see him defeat them while showcasing the results of his training in the palace as well as giving us insight into Robert’s Shrift.

Only time Kensei ever won a fight in the entire series... And to think that he had the audacity to diss Hisagui while saving him from Mask.

My problems with this fight are mostly about how it cuts off the Giselle vs Mayuri fight, how shoehorned and rushed it was, and Pepe's uncreative use of his terrifying powers, whether it be his thralls or love arrows. Pepe himself is honestly a refreshjng take for a love-themed villain in shōnen, and I just wish he got more time to actually show it before getting humiliated.

The underutilization of Robert Accutone was a big dissapointment in the arc. *Takes the new captain commanders eye. Is off-screened and never gets his schrift named.

If I had a nickel for every time Byakuya fought a dark skinned enemy with a gross transformation and powers themed around love, I'd have 2 nickels, but it's wierd it's happened twice...

Honestly I just really hope that in the anime they reveal how Liltotto managed to restrain and take out Minenas

Kubo has Byakuya fight a lot of enemies with some sort of mental manipulation. Zomari, tsukushima (technically past manipulation but the effect is the same), As Nodt, and Pepe. In fact the only canon fights he has against “regular” opponents is ichigo, renji, yami, and kenpachi, all of which except for ichigo are less than 1 chapter if memory serves.

Byakuya always gets the weird ones. Also really looking forward to anime only viewers reacting to Pepe.

Pepe being some weird twisted version of Cupid, is neat in concept, and if Kubo's intention was for us to feel disgusted at his Vollstandig, good on him. But when you make him the focus of Byakuya's first proper fight since he lost to As Nodt, and he could've fought Nanana (Who supposedly fought Rose and came out fine) or Robert (Who shot out Shunsui's eye), it was a weird choice to say for sure. Maybe if Pepe had kept his normal Sage look with the sunglasses, I would've liked his design more. *Edit:* Ha, seems the anime heard my plea lol

I really wish PePe's shrift was *L: The Leer* and it gave him- or his staff- a weird eye power like Medusa or basilisk powers.

Tbh I actually love how cursed his design is, reminds me of ugly bastards from hentai and I wouldn’t be surprised if that was part of Kubo’s thought process 💀💀

Something that in theory makes the Love very dangerous in comparison to the Zombie as a shrift, it handily works on other Quincy where the Zombie does need another Quincy to be dead first. Like suggested earlier in the video, I think it would have meant a lot more if he had gotten several of the others to be a bit more of a multi-battle would have gone a long way to show how dangerous it is.

What pisses me off about this fight is that it got more screentime than the squad zero.

The fight may have been a downer but in the end, Pepe meeting his end was a highlight especially given just how repulsive he was. The way he went out was also satisfying and symbolic.

I love that you upload these videos as they lead up to the fights in the anime as it's airing. It gives me alot of think about and look out for once the episodes do come out and helps to keep some information fresh in my mind ^-^

When the Love was first revealed I was hoping that Pepe would be done in by the classic twist on the Yandere trope--maybe one of his victims would get so jealous that Pepe was sharing his love with other characters that they'd kill him so no one could have him (assuming he wouldn't expect to have to order someone not to kill him). One way to do this could have been integrating the end of the Giselle fight much better, and maybe some timeline shuffling. But if Pepe was truly shown to be a threat on his backfoot, fleeing tactically from the fight against unloving zombies, only to run into Giselle in the cave... Maybe he could have tried to make Giselle love him and fight against his pursuers, only to find out how Giselle really treats the things she loves... It was built upon pretty well with the Bambi interactions, and in my opinion gives that build up of a terrible person some justification and payoff before the inevitable "yeah ok even though you are a monster and still brutally killed your zombie gf, we beat you so you can still be on our side" all in all, making it simply another slave-creator was uninspired. Truly diving into what it means to make someone love you that much rather than just making them your slave could have differentiated it from Amor and the Zombie.

Theoretically, Pepe could have been a cannon version of Muromasa if he decided to just go after different Soul Reaper's zanpuktos. Tho he can't manifest the spirits and needs someone to wield them. What if he made a few fall for him and he keep them with him in his floating bowl, or whatever that thing is, and picked which he wanted to use. Also before this I thought fans didn't like him cause he was a fat old man making people fall in love with him and he did something weird with it, but now I get it, built up to be a big threat but ends up being a joke with lost potential

The biggest relief is that he’ll be gone next episode so we can expand on the Zero Squad fights.

Pepe-Sama is the greatest! He deserves his own arc

How could you not love this fight ? It features his loving majesty Pepe The Love Waccabrada and any battle featuring him is automatically elevated to the rank of G.O.A.T ,after all Pepe Sama is such a loving lovable lug of lovingness and every scene he is in should be treated with nothing less than our purest , sincerest love and adoration.

I would say this fight won't be changed, it will be rearranged. Made more structured... we might see a proper finale of Mayuri vs Giselle, before Pepe will even show up... so that it will be more logical that he's here...

I will say, out of all the fights in the TYBW, this was definitely a weaker one and I would not care for it if Byakuya wasn't involved. I do hope they add a little more to the fight however if they don't, I'm not going to be too disappointed. Again, I'm just hyped to see Byakuya back in action. Granted, it's not much.

I'm excited for the next episode bc it's being said they will adapt the byakuya vs the 3 sternritter fight so we csn actually see him fight them now and maybe get Robert's shrift.

It may not be kubo who decided to cut short the fight. Nobody can say for sure really and since its towards the end of the series maybe kubo has the ability to disregard his editors more but we do know that especially early on quite big decisions were made by the editors such as moving onto soul society and ending the beginning arc faster than kubo intended. And completely changing orihime's powers from one that gives her horns and a tail to the fairies she has in this timeline. I wonder how different bleach would be if kubo never heeded his editors once. Regardless of whether or not this fight went on any longer i seriously doubt it would be a fan fave so it seems plausible somebody not even necessarily the editor strongly recommended kubo to get it over with and move on. might explain why theres so many brief ideas in this small space. Classic kubo thing to do. Just oda not getting enough pages so instead of lowering the amount of panels in one chapter he just makes the panels small, messy and unreadable kubo instead of cutting out some ideas he had he just shoves everything in it and gives us small tasters of everything. But it could also be kubo's decision we know he gets bored of stuff exceedingly quickly one need look no further than ichigo's powers to see that. I kinda like zommari's and pepe's releases in a grotesque way. In a series of hypermodels its nice to have an alternative now and again. Bazz-B did not teamkill for stealing credit like he said. We find out later that he hates everyone in that army thanks to his backstory so it makes perfect sense he would take any chance to sneakily kill them. Is pepe actually insanely strong being able to catch and corner byakuya? byakuya was already very fast and strong before the royal guard training and look how much renji powered up after it.

Pepe controlling Zanpaktou is nice twist that even Kuchiki could not predict.

Byakuya vs. Dollar Store Zommari. Such a gross, redundant character. Zommari at least had real convictions and was definitely not a bystander, showing up promptly to Aaronierro's palace after his defeat.

Every time I see one of your videos, I get a strong urge to write and draw what I always imagined the TYBW fights would be. The way you described the Sterritters fighting Pepe alongside the shinigami would have been so cool, especially if Pepe had gotten a few captains and lieautenants on his side. Can you imagine the emotional stakes? Friends fighting friends, trying to find a way to undo the Love power. At first, the more kido oriented characters could try binding their allies to fight Pepe directly, but then Pepe uses Sklaverei to steal the reishi, freeing his puppets and becoming even stronger in the proccess. It could have been so scary and so good. Every day I mourn the final arc that could have been...

They should extend Byakuya vs Robert and forget about Pepe entirely, im against any cuts but i must say that this is the only cut i would fully support. This guy is another Zommari but worse.

I just noticed that my man Byakuya has fought: Zommari, Pepe, and is implied to have fought or at least trained with Yourichi. All that was missing was a fight with Tousen and Nanana. I am starting to think he would be best friends with Zorro from one piece 🤣

It's kinda sad that Kensei's BEST SHOWING in the entirety of bleach is while he is a zombie puppet not using his zanpakatuo or hollow mask lmao.

My guess is that the zombie Pepe made fall in love was Jidanbo in the first invasion so he could take the credit for destroying R&D department.

Picture this, Hisagi goes down and Byukuya speaks with Pepe and he tries to take control of Byuakuya but fails. When Meninas hops in to fight being controlled by Pepe all while he's in the back trying to tag Kuchiki. Then, it happens. Hisagi returns to the fight, bankai activated, and still under Pepe's control. That'd be a cool moment, gives us a bankai reveal while making it unique because of the circumstances, and it'd boost the fight in general. It'd be interesting to see how Byakuya would handle the fight since Hisagi's bankai puts a timer on the battle while he essentially has 2 teammates for the bankai to have maximum effectiveness. Especially since Byakuya may be hesitant to kill him since he essentially revealed himself to be a lieutenant with a bankai just like Renji. It also just makes sense, why wouldn't he use his bankai here? Hisagi's mind is poisoned by Pepe's Love. I think it makes total sense. Gives the team a huge tactical advantage (since his bankai is essentially a support bankai) and it's a payoff for that sense between Kensei and Hisagi before the 2nd Invasion. I think it makes sense. A tall order but it'd be cool if the anime did this.

Is Byakuya vs Pepe even a fight, considering short it is. God I really hope the anime expand byakuya's fight with Robert, Nana and Candince like how it did with Ichigo and bambis

Pepe is my most hated character in the series, so much so that when he died, I wasn't even excited. But there was a sigh of relief that he was finally over. I would be completely fine if the anime entirely removed his "fight" to focus on anything else.

To be somewhat fair to Mayuri, Bambi was, in fact, _super thirsty_ for Giselle's... you know... when she was zombified. It's within reason (for Mayuri) that he'd notice that and take steps to eliminate such an unnecessary complication.

When you think about the comparisons between the Arrancar and the Sternritter, Liltotto's ability, the Glutton, is almost identical to Aaroniero's ability, Gluttony, they both devour others and absorb their power and it's confirmed in CFYOW that Liltotto absorbed Pepe's the Love as well.

Byakuya fights against creeps who use "love" powers and Shunsui fights opponents who use guns. Thats basically a rule for Bleach.

Kinda makes me wonder if Liltoto's ability to eat n absorb others powers might come into play in the anime version. It wasn't shown in the Manga but it could still be showcased in the anime. Giselle's zombies and Liltoto's new love kiss might make for a good combo fight. Probably won't play out that way...but still interesting.

I do get the idea that Pepe’s holy form is supposed to be a tainted version of love and that it’s ugly, but damn does it really throw you out of your chair when you see it for the first time

I've been thinking for a while how to make Pepe more enjoyable, and I think you get it by swapping the schrift letters of him and Candice. Her schrift is T the thunderbolt, but her power is all about lightning, not thunder. So give Candice the letter L for the lightning, and give Pepe T for something like the tricky. Then Pepe could be a legitimately witchy character by turning him into a genie-like enemy. His main ability could be to turn his opponents' words and actions against them, like how genies have been typically depicted as twisting the words of your wish so it screws you over. While it would be more similar to Berenice at that point, we only see her post-mortem. If something like this had been Pepe's ability, I would've been so much more on board with his character.

Something tells me Pepe will have some AMAZING voice over. Like I can’t wait to hear how he speaks something tells me it’ll be the best part about the character

It's cheap to say love is the reason for everything when you declare everything as love.

Honestly, this could have been epic if it was used to showcase that Byakuya was now ready to counter senbonsakura getting stolen. If Pepe had activated the shikai or Bankai state, that would have been a great moment of growth for Byakuya to show him as now being strong enough to over come even that situation.

They should've made Pepe control someone like Ukitake and put him against Shunsui or even Byakuya. Imagine a reverse scene of Byakuya catching Ukiatke's hand, as a call back to the SS arc bridge scene

I assumed that Hisagi believed he had defeated Pepe, since we see his thoughts after seeing Bayakuya defeated three Sternritter, and Pepe, who was just playing dead, hit him with the Love while he was approaching Byakuya.

Yep pepe is like this demonic, heartless, sadistic, corrupted version of cupid. He was too nosey about Byakuya and his zanpakuto. LIKE A HOLLOW'S SPEED

i did watched the anime version today as a byakuya fan (havent read the manga) and was getting hyped when he beat 3 stern but the hyped is gone after he have problems about this one. Yeah i know turning your allies against you is unfair fight. But unlike zaraki vs gremmy this is kind of thrash because mayuri saves the day and that glutton stern beats pepe which steals byakuya's spotlight

Zommari Rureaux. Shukuro Tsukishima. As Nodt. PePe Waccabrada. These are Byakuya Kuchiki's only opponents in Bleach. And they all control the enemy by means of memories, the nervous system and emotions. I feel bad for him.

It's good, interesting and clever. Match up Kuchiki with familiar yet different opponent. The perv sage powers are similar to that Espada, but different.

as you said, Pepe always had his back turned to make him a bit character to end like this. Most people in Bleach are like that which is not a bad thing and not a bad writing. If everyone were op and how you described it, then one the series would end very quickly. And two there wouldn't be any point of giving the Soul Reapers more powers just to lose in each fight

The moral: for a visored capitaIn to do something useful, he needs to be dead and then zombiefied by Mayuri.

Idk...TYBW arc's got lots of weirdness going on. I feel like the placement of Pepe's "the Love" fight, just deepens the existential crisis theme that is TYBW arc. This ridiculous perversion of love, feels like a nod to blind zealotry and the emptiness of this war on the level of the soul society. Deepening the wound of the fate of quincies given shrifts. Like they're all deeply broken beings who were taken advantage of and then killed/absorbed. Yhwach's "ascension" to the royal palace on such a strange fight, literally leaving love behind in favor of death and war, deepens the disillusionment/confusion of "holiness" in the arc I think.

Mayuri pretty much outshined everyone in the newest episode of TYBW including his fellow captains. I kinda feel bad for Kensei and Rojuro tho; they got humiliated by James/Mask (even after using Bankai), killed by Gremmy, turned into zombies by Giselle, got defeated by revived arrancars and the most useful thing they've done in the TYBW was end up becoming Mayuri's undead thralls... The Visored captain's stay jobbering when Shinji getting bombed by Bambietta, losing his battle and just barely surviving after getting saved was considered getting off "lightly".

I feel like there are also some similarities to Tsukishima fight since he also makes people love and respect him and his ability found weakness in Senbonzakura. Because of that maybe Byakuya would be more resistant to Love but I guess it would be repetitive and Love does have a stronger control over targets.

Personally with Pepe's design I'd have given him some other kind of power like maybe L The Land allowing him to both control the terrain around him as well as change it into whatever he wants be it lava, ice, metal etc, play off how he kind of looks like an old fashion sage character instead of the pervert we got.

Is it just me or most of the dark skinned African/black leaning characters are a reference to love lol. There is literally a character named Love, Zamari (Resurreccion - Amor), and now Pepe literally all his abilities and Vollstandig surrounding Love in sexual and twisted domination; and this is a bit of a reach but even Charlotte Chuhlhourne references love. I just find the correlations funny cuz I'm a dorky bleach fan too just wanted to point that out. Idk if Kubo noticed.

I thought Pepe power affecting soul, so Kensei-zombie has no soul (isn't he recovered at the end of Bleach with his 'soul' intact?)... well, Mayuri knows what his stuff. We'll see how this progress in the anime

This fight was just another reason why I really don't particularly like Mayuri. He's the "favourite" so many times that another character could have something, it's given to Mayuri so he can say "you are silly, look at my cynical and plot convenient invention" and then just takes the moment. He's my least favourite character in the series and him being the main character of the TYBW always bugged me
