Getting rid of the annoying and frankly dangerous automatic systems in the BYD Seal that take over aspects of the driving. Also getting rid of some annoying sounds to make driving more pleasurable.
@@CptMishMashVonRandomYeah man, I'm not too worried about them. Some guy just saw me in traffic before and yelled out that he's a subscriber. I was driving my Tesla, so he recognised it.
Just curious why you bought it? It’s not like they added all that annoying stuff after the test drive. Unless you bought it to complain and make content? Don’t get me wrong, all that stuff would annoy me too, but I’d vote with my feet and walk out the dealership
I drove the Seal for 1 days….took it straight back. This is absolutely annoying. I encourage you all to write to BYD and complain. I had an update installed and it has settled down somewhat, but still does not allow a relax drive….i was trying to avoid an overwidth truck and was pulling me in to dangerous territory. Come on people, you voice will get change to this deadly driver assistance software. Such a nice car, however what a let down!!
I like the honda ev, but they dont sell them here in Australia, but I also love my 5 speed land cruiser, no abs, no automatic anything, just you and the machine.
Thanks for the video. My question: isn´t it possible to turn off all the anoying things by VOICE CONTROLL? Did You try it? Maybe it is possible..... Greets from Italy
If you live in the EU, you're not going to have these issues. I've had my Seal for several days now and doesn't have any of these issues. It sounds like a normal car and only beeps at me one time, if I go above the speedlimit .. That's it.
Dong ding ding dong - that sounds almost like a slur, innit. The ride seems choppy AF, did they forget to remove the delivery suspension bump stops during PDI? PS just noticed the plate... mate how did your local authorities not catch that
Definition of "hack" - good job. Thought for a second you would be looking into the commands it sends, installing some sort of man in the middle raspberry pi to intercept the calls etc. Nah - pull the f*cken fuse out mate. Just so good. I wonder why its not storing the settings though. I bet there's a "remember settings" settings in there. "System settings" or "Vehicle Settings". There's no way any software could be this dumb is there?
Well I'm glad someone gets it! I did (still do) plan to do something a bit more exotic maybe in the way of sending commands to disable it via a script, but that's a while off if ever. When I saw the fuses for it I couldn't resist.
Shit this is really putting me off getting one. Surely the blokes at BYD can disable these settings or save them properly? Suppose you could jailbreak it and delete some files? Anyways audio wise let us know how that goes. Be sure to get some Focal speakers 😉
Look at half of these comments... people just want to submit to bullshit. Anyway, as for the stereo, a major consideration I'm going to have is the battery supplying it. In my Tesla it's the standard (well, now lithium) 12v, but I'm not sure of the capacity in this thing.
You can thank the eu for that line assistance crap Cleary thought up by a ploitician that doest drive cars on european roads that are narrow and getting narrower with the new cyclist first roads they are making.
Absolutely love your attitude to everything! Couldn’t agree more us as the vehicle operators, we should have complete control of what features are enabled we want and don’t want!
Hi. You can turn off the startup sound by clicking Vehicle Settings -> Intelligent Reminders -> Vehicle Prompt Sound Source -> change from Brand to Standard. The left and right turning sound will be standard as well. The labels may not be exactly same in Seal, but all BYD cars should be similar. 😄
The indicator sound. Is and option, you csn just choose another. The stereo needs another setup, heard it tuned right. The sound was amazing. You can set the adas up so you just need one setting on start up, to turn off. Sounds to .e that you haven't bother to set the car up right.
This is a terrible car. I can turn all that off on mine and it remembers the settings. Now you've had to ruin cruise control and the emergency braking which are essentials. And every time you turn on the car you get warnings about ADAS being unavailable... I would return that piece of crap, they managed to make a worse software experience than Tesla
I haven't gotten the car yet (early next year), but sat in one and played around with the settings a bit. From memory there is a swipe down option from the top of the screen that has quick commands. I think you can turn off all those ADAS things there if you preset it. Might be wrong though, only played around with it for 10 mins. Also as a fellow baldy, how is the sun through the roof? I'm in QLD and was wondering if I need to have the shade inserted 24/7. Cheers mate.
The roof is fine. The Tesla is the same, the heat doesn't get through. I obviously felt like playing around with the car a bit anyway. Others don't seem to get that. Check out my pinned link to see where I currently am :)
I will just not Drive this, If any unlucky reason you get into a crash, most likely your insurance will say you are insurance is voited because you are tampering with the car safety system
If I were to cause a crash, I'm liable anyway. At least now I actually have control of the car, and not have it do its own stupid shit to me. Think about it.
@@TallPaulTech I'm more concerned in the instance that the accident wasn't your fault, or if the fault was a little bit blurred and some investigation was needed. Would these actions affect the insurance claim at all in Oz?
Hello everyone! Just spend an hour to find a solution on a brand new Byd seal! And this is not the way at all … you just need to enter the car system on the screen … third entry on the vertical menu then last entry on your right on the horizontal menu … and change the sound to standard… all the noises and spaceship sounds GONE without touching any fuse ! Enjoyyyy 😁
@@TallPaulTech Fyi, the adas sound will be gone with the « standard » mode… no loud screen sound when its on or off … no sound with the speed limit … etc … 👍😊
If you want to go through a menu to turn ADAS off, then have a dash full or yellow warnings, then go for it. I like to get rid of the shit once and for all.
Do we have the same car ? 😅 I went to the menu once. Change to the standard mode. And I did not touch a thing since. And no yellow warning at all 🤩🤷🏻♀️ you maybe but touching the fuse on a brand new car … anyway hope I will help new owners. 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Paul, following in from our previous dialogue, I strongly complained to BYD. They took the car back for a day and toned its all down, although still not acceptable, not comfortable, very challenging! Today : not only the road black snakes, I was getting thrown all over the road from the power poles overhead electrical cable shadows on the road 🤣🤣 The only way this will get sorted, if many people continually raise Thank you 😊
Well, since I pulled those two fuses out, the car behaves. I hate to break it to you, but nobody in a company is going to help you, because nobody in a company gives a shit about what you want or think. That's the state of things these days.
You would think they should be held accountable for selling cars for not disclosing this material fact…. and they keep selling as we speak. I doubt very much that each salesman is advising the buyer….. I will give them the opportunity…however I think you may be right!! What if only taking out the one fuse? I bloody use the cruise control a lot….bugger!! Have you tried that ? I sent Byd your video link plus another re the same complaint, along with my formal dissatisfaction. We will see they are good citizens!!
i read that the resetting ADAS settings is due to the European regulations. Though I hope that BYD introduces profiles and that it would allow you to choose a custom profile on startup
Apart from your Disney Soundtracks, this is exactly my gripe with the VAG's MEB platform of electric vehicles as well. In my case, the Q4 e-Tron, but all the MEBs are like this. To disable specifically the lane holder, I need to press and hold the button at the end of the _wiper_ handle for no less than four seconds. Personally, I will not even attempt to reverse engineer anything. I will simply add some electronics to the steering column to emulate press and hold of this button at every startup. Caveat Emptor - I have not truly researched this, but rumors are that EU directives now dictates that _if_ the vehicle is equipped with ADAS, it _shall_ be activated on each and every start-up of the vehicle. And it _shall_ be a PITA to disable. What is more easily confirmed is that eCall became mandatory on 31 March 2018, and «Intelligent speed "assistance"» plus «Reversing detection with camera or sensors» and «(Driver) Attention warning» became mandatory on 1. January 2024. As is «Event Data Recorder (EDR)» aka. "Black Box" by Amendment 160 to Annex I of Regulation (EU) 2019/2144. They also mandated some «Alcohol interlock installation _facilitation_» for good measure. More to be progressively introduced on the roadmap up until 2029. Additionally, remember that the design criteria for the EU Galileo GNSS navigation system was that is should be precise enough to facilitate virtual toll roads. Oh btw, automotive Cybersecurity measures to stop reverse engineering from occurring is now also mandatory. There went your Right to Repair, by courtesy of the EU Council…
You do realize that by disabling the ADAS and you do have an accident, insurance companies being the asshats that they are, may not cover you saying you modified the safety systems of the car. This is, in my opinion, just a reasonable hypothesis of what could happen in the future. I don't deny the audio warnings would get annoying in the Seal. My Ford Escape Vignale has these systems but fortunately the way I operate the car, they are nothing more than I minor nuisance. Also, the lane keeping assist is excellent in my car as is speed sign recognition.
@@auPython Tell your ins. co in writing that your car does not have ADAS features when you sign up. Should be no different than insuring old car without all this safety shit.
If you use the indicator........you will not have to fight the steering wheel. BYD are working on an OTA update to tame the intervention of the ADAS systems and make it easier to turn some of them off. I drive a Skoda and if I try to leave my lane with lane keep assist activated.......the car will try and stop me unless I've indicated. It's not rocket science.
@@TallPaulTech each to their own I suppose. Would you at least concede that all lane assist systems will buzz the steering wheel if you swerve out of your lane without indicating. As a viewer, who's watched possibly every review on that car and has driven one........your video seemed like a bit of a "hit" piece Elon.
I've had lane keep assist on four cars from Honda, Nissan, Hyundai and Toyota. They all complain if you change lanes without indicating, but they don't try to force the car back in the lane when you turn the wheel past a certain point. They will gently turn the wheel when the car gets too close to the edge, to center the car, but will not interfere with an active lane change or emergency swerve, even without indicating.
Hi Paul, thanks for this vid - appreciate the candour. I'm contemplating a BYD, but this vid aptly demonstrate that the vehicle software is sorely lacking in common sense. So I'm holding out, hoping they update the software for all the vehicles. At the most basic level, an EV should remember settings and let us turn off the unpredictable, potentially dangerous assisted safety rubbish. More chance of that happening than Tesla 3s getting actual indicator stalks, right? :) Can't wait to see ZEEKR and Xiomi enter the field - hopefully the new competition will inspire some better, less flakey software in otherwise awesome vehicles. Come on BYD, fix this please!
All any of these things need are user options that are stored... you know, to give the actual owner/operator control of the device. Simple. They will never do that though, as it's all about their power/money so it's not in their interest, unless their money starts walking away.
Hey Paul, the worst you haven’t experienced as yet I see. Trying to turn left at a T junction can be challenging…. Car braked on two separate occasions on me placing me in a difficult position with nose sticking out on to main road. What a headache, plus I got a headache from the brake jarring…. Sure next couple of days. I was simply trying to merge with busy traffic and in safe manner. The Driver coming down the road went off at me for pulling out and suddenly stopping, I had no control :/ Hopefully enough owners will write in and complain to reassess this. Unfortunately I like/need my cruise control for the kms I drive. I sent your RU-vid video to BYD so they start to think seriously about a remedy!!…although I suspect toy may have made contact.
No I didn't experience that, because I pissed that whole shitty system off about 5 minutes after getting the car. I'd like cruise control too, but there is no normal cruise control anymore. I haven't used it in the Tesla for years. It's annoying that the last time I had cruise control that I actually controlled was in an old Lancer.
It seems these ADAS systems become mandatory in various countries, and eg. EU made it mandatory, that they have to be switched on on every start-up. The most common solution is to mute them (luckilly they haven't forbidden it yet), but it depends on car manufacturer if this setting is saved or not.
The "feature" which attempts to keep the car in the centre of the lane is actually quite dangerous. I don't know if this is due to BYD's poor implementation, but it's certainly a case where the Euro NCAP bureaucrats have gone too far. I don't think ANCAP is as anal so hopefully BYD will adjust it for Australia.
Shouldnt be turning off the front cross braking especially, and child presence detection I wouldn't think. You should be able to leave the speed sign reading, but turn off the alert. That way you can always glance and know what speed you should be doing. You can change the indicator noise to traditional blinker easy enough on Atto 3, I assume on that too. Which also deletes the start up noise. Deleting your cruise control makes the whole thing not worthwhile IMO though I do agree you should be able to save your preferences and not have to go in each time and change it. Hopefully BYD provide an over the air update on this.
Why bother buying this and pay for all these features just to turn it off? I do agree. It is annoying at times with all this assistance. As I have a cars with and without driving assistance. I hardly miss the system when i'm driving the one without
Safety ratings are based on how safe the passengers are IN THE EVENT of a crash. And it looks like the Seal is very proud of the 5 star rating. So proud in fact, it seems eager to show it off in a crash 😄
i think it was recent since I know I watched a review about the car and how they also hated the noises it was making but then the reviewer said that "BYD fixed it" probably referring to some update or something.@@TallPaulTech
@@rabbitazteca23 I ordered my Seal and BYD must delivery It to me in the following Days... So that they I Will ask them for that latest update which allows you turn or the beeps alerts!!
You dont need to bypass the audio noises... there is a setting that removes that and makes the indicators "normal" sound. Takes 3 secs if you bothered to check
Problem is if you have to disable the annoying ADAS features every time you start the car. That's said, there are only two things that need to be disabled, not everything that was shown in the video. And apart from this being very annoying, the issue with with disabling things is that you are also not benefiting from these potential safety features. But until they calibrate them properly, they are more trouble than they are worth.
Thanks for the video. Personally, I am going to put pressure on BYD Australian to fix the bloody software. The more people that complain, the more chance they will do it. I'm still learning about the car and the WiFi functionality is another buggy part of the car. At least we have everything controlled by software, they have the capability to do OTA updates to fix it. My understanding is that the software is actually being modified to some degree in Sydney for Australian cars, so maybe that's a good thing.
My phone didn't like the bluetooth connection, even though it connect and car said it downloaded contacts. The Android car thing didn't work though. I'm not worried, was just playing around.
@@TallPaulTech I got Bluetooth working fine. Android Auto, however, is a pain in the arse if you enable it because it automatically starts every time the phone connects to the car. To access the car's menus - to disable the annoying ADAS bits - you have to exit Android Auto anyway. I have never used Android Auto before so I don't know if it's the same on other cars. I have disabled it.
On the Tesla when you try to do a double lane change with that feature turned on it rips the wheel out of your hand if you're just using 1 hand 😂 surely when they tested that feature they didn't consider a double lane change?
how to turned it off permanently without taking the fuse out? I dont wanna hear any sound everytime i indicating the light or keeping lane or even start up the engine when baby is at sleep!
THANK you for this. This car is just about to launch here in Malaysia and I've pretty much decided on this over the Tesla M3, but these annoying software tics and dings really didn't help with that decision. I'd do this on the first day, but does it turn cruise control completely off? I tend to use that quite a bit on a day to day.
I can't stand all the modern EV noises! I just silenced my ZE1 Leaf completely, then re-added the indicator tock noise back by monitoring the CAN bus and pulsing a small speaker when the right packet is seen :)
@@TallPaulTech lol, I only did it for the Mrs! She said it was too eerie with no noise at all. So she gets a curtosey soft-switch for it that defaults to OFF every time heh :)
@@TallPaulTechI also did some hacking of the CAN bus on an MG. I added one pedal driving and fixed the cruise control. I had a look at the Atto3 but can't add one pedal. Agree with the ADAS woes. I also have a Seal and feel like I'm performing a flight cockpit check every time I get in just to turn things off for the drive! I do like the cruise control though so I don't think I'll be pulling the fuses out anytime soon. I was in Sydney traffic today and loved the way the cruise control managed the crawl. On the indicator sound, there's a setting that persists to change that. Also, I don't get that welcome sound so I must have turned that off somewhere (accidentally!). I think I saw a setting to increase the sound volume in relation to the Spotify also... i.e. may be each app can have its own sound levels. Don't quote me though.
Yeah, the indicators are normal, and the start/stop shit is gone too. They're part of the branding setting. I don't use Spotify or anything other than USB music, but as I said I'll be getting a proper stereo in this anyway and bypass the lot :)
Hello @huntchris! Which seal do you have awd or rwd? How long can you ride in motorway? What is your consumption there? I am planning to buy one. Are you satisfied with it? Thank you
I guess you are going to packet sniff the CAN commands and then automate the commands when you turn it on. Adas really is a joke, its in every car because you cant get 5 stars without it. it shouldn't be used at all on local roads. Road design and chaotic driving situations, these little sub 100w adas units have no hope. And the phantom breaking is a massive pain in the ass. I do a lot of highway driving, and it does work very well in that environment, its a more contained environment, less random lane events, its still a dumb system, and you still have to pay attention and react befor it over reacts for you. In my new ford ranger, it has radar crusie control, you change lanes coming up to a red light with crusie control still on... It was foot to the floor accelerate, and then foot to the floor break at the last second once it picks up the car waiting at the lights.. its distance to reconise the car in front is frightening small. Telsas latest isnt much better. Auto steer on local steets in unusable. Its not as great as its raved
fully agree with your comments I have a 2003 Subaru without all the bells & whistles, I need to upgrade to a new car without all this annoying shit you turned off, in my opinion its distracts you from being alert to traffic etc thats around you, I don't trust AI, I want to be in control, not being controlled, thats the danger we need to be aware of, if it warned you without taking control of the car I may find it acceptable in time, as for TESLA autonomous driving what a joke, should be banned.
Kind of strange, because the Seal I tested here in Europe a month ago, didnt make the weird noise at the beginning. The indicator sound was also "normal", not this strange "dingdong". Generally speaking, I really didnt like the cluttered Dash and Screen in the middle. Its just ... too many little icons and signs everywhere. Other than that, i really liked driving it. Felt much comfier than a Model 3 and I like the outside look more.
Those custom noises for indicators and startup can be turned off. All my icons on that screen have gone since pissing off the fuses for that lethal ADAS shit, then reset Android.
Any owner who drives one of these vehicles in Byron Shire without pulling those fuses risks their lives and the lives of their family. In Byron Shire pot holes are never repaired, instead someone paints around them with DyMark. The roads are narrow and windy and totally unsuitable for pretend AI.
@@TallPaulTech Previously a 5 star safety rating meant something . The electronics as safety ain't it. On occasions even ABS is a problem forcing the driver to try and outsmart it, assuming you have enough distance. Phantom braking is quite a scary one, given that tailgaters exist.
Brand new car and you have to pull the fuses out of the fusebox to disable ADAS lol. 😆 This is a massive pain and actually makes the car more dangerous. Car companies need to be careful, because if ADAS is found to have caused a crash, eg a potentially fatal head-on, then those companies would be liable big time.
There are sooks already crying, and I haven't even gotten started yet! pasteboard.co/VWkuO39vXYQo.jpg pasteboard.co/4EuOLfjdHt0v.png Whatever happened to people playing around with their cars?
Seriously? Youre having a monumental sook about these things, and you call ppl who point out that the things youre moaning about can be changed "sooks".
The whole ADAS system is, in most new cars, part of the NCAP safety system. Even western cars have that nowadays to get the highest NCAP rating… the problem though is exactly like you said: it takes away control of a car where you're responsible for whatever happens anyway. It doesn't make much sense: if the ADAS system decides that staying in a lane is more important than avoiding a bicycle, it will jog the steering wheel. If you then hit a person, you're the one going to jail for it (or get fined at least). So thanks for showing how to disable it, I'm sure it works similarly in other cars as well :)
@@wcrash9361 What you're describing is correct, but you're still talking about software. Even Tesla, which is said to have the best (ADAS) software, still makes mistakes. And in case of a near-collision you don't always use your indicator lights, not can the software always be 100% correct (bad lighting or rain can sometimes be a problem for example). Just because the software will "do what it's supposed to do" during situations where the software will judge a situation being dangerous, that still doesn't mean that it will take the right course of action. Aside from that, if the software does make a mistake and you simply "let it do what it's supposed to do", then the drive will still be held responsible for the damages. Your last sentence doesn't even begin to make sense. Software isn't flawless, and plenty of people prefer being in total control of the car's behavior. That has nothing to do with speeding or tailgating.
@@wcrash9361 like I said, you're not making any sense. Software isn't perfect, which is shown time and time again with these half baked ADAS type systems. If it starts nudging or correcting you, that means you're not entirely in control. Also, please try to use some capitals and .'s in your sentence, you're making less and less sense now. And are you able to keep the responses ontopic or would you like to keep trolling?
Good enough reason not to buy a BYD, all these new cars with this nanny shit beeping, fuck that. If I can’t turn that shit off and it’s saved I’m not buying a car. I’ll take a lessor car that allows me to turn off that crap and doesn’t warn me with 84 icons on the screen they are off, we are aware they are fucking off we turned them off BYD. Imagine if you get a new icon for a fault like the battery, can’t see shit due to the BYD XMAS tree dash 😂 That startup and shut down noise needs to go as well. WTF after they thinking disable and save option on that or never add it to AU market
@@GTventure I actually tried that and made notes. One of them still enabled some stuff. I also noticed in the video afterwards if you look at the legend of fuses, there's another ADAS one over to the right that I didn't see and never touched.
Totally agree with that saying. If they want to have the great power to control a rolling weapon, they should be more responsible. Not steer you into oncoming traffic. That shit should be recalled before someone's injured or killed. Where's the government on this? Outrageous.
You're right, but I wouldn't be expecting any government to give us control back of.... frankly anything. I hear in Europe they're bring in kill switches for new cars so they can be remotely stopped.
Apparently the lane keep assist system also gets confused with 'tar snakes' as if they're some protected species. I miss the good old days of running over real snakes.
Hey Paul, am I right that these are ATO (ATC) plug fuses? Just trying to figure out so I know what gear I'll need to hardwire a dashcame for when I park mine (getting it later this month apparently). Cheers mate
Since the infotainment is running on android you might be able to replace the indicator sound files if you can find them, or maybe hook the infotainment up to a speaker thats only capable of making click sounds 😂
@@TallPaulTech so your now even trolling comments on your own lame video lol what a loser lol Plenty of comments agreeing with me how pathetic your video was done showing your total ignorance
Taking out fuses is the next level of bodge! 🤣 I guess it works for now with BYD, but will probably be fixed in some future OTA update and you will not be able to start without them. Why not just contact manufacturer and express your disappointment? They might listen and fix those issues.
Sadly part of the problem are european laws, and as most countries copy them, there will not be an official way to turn them off. To make this change, you need, at least one big country, to by law make the manufacturer responsible for the assistant
I am surprised the car doesn't have driver profiles that are either aligned with the key fob or something you can select that adjusts seats, radio, sound settings (including indicator noises), etc. Love the plates :)
The Litmus test of all technology (and the first question you should ask of any tech) has nothing to do with its functionality. It's: 'How easy is it to turn off?'
@@TallPaulTechNothing more frustrating to a techie than not having full control over a piece of software. I'm surprised BYD doesn't allow that sort of customisation.
Even more frustrating is when people in the public blindly bow down and do whatever they're told to, rather than having the old school spirit of giving things a go yourself.
Would it be possible to replace the audio files that are played maybe? I think you mentioned in the last video that it seems to be android based so it should be fairly easy to get root access. You may even be able to change the default parameters for the ADAS in there so that you can keep cruise control too.
There is a menu option to turn off the silly sounds of the indicators and alerts. Mine was playing loud music outside the car whenever I was driving under 20ks.. its supposed to warn pedestrians that a silent car is coming, but it was more like I was the Icecream man driving down the street. There's options to change it to like a spaceship sound, or just some other high potched sound people think electric cars might make.. but I turned that ish off quick smart.

This video is comedy gold 😂 Btw, is this standard across all seals throughout the world? I just visited their showroom here in Malaysia and tested the car. The seals here have all those annoying sounds off and settings saved and no ding dong, dong ding sound when indicating.
