I agree with you, I'd never buy a car without an indicator stalk. They are just better technology technology than steering wheel buttons. The same goes for parking sensors.Tesla have deliberately made their cars worse by deleting the stalks and ultrasonic sensors

Right?! What I don't understand is why. Although I have seen some Tesla fans defend literally every decision that is made about these cars, even the questionable ones. So perhaps Tesla just knows they can get away with it with their customer base?

Owned an AWD Seal here in Thailand for a few weeks now - amazing car and great fun to drive. The Glass roof is silver coated and not hot with a sun blind in a bag in the boot. I drive in Eco mode most of the time as it's the most relaxing, but still plenty of punch if you need it. You can access the cooled/heated seats from the aircon screen which is always at the bottom of the screen, I set regen to max and leave it - I only use the break pedal to stop completely. OTA updates are already making improvements to the infotainment system here. Lots of videos on my channel.

I've watched all your Seal videos, you have an awesome channel! I drew a lot of inspiration and info for my videos from you. Your Seal videos are the best on RU-vid, yesterday I was amazed at how fast the car responds when you control it from the app, that's amazing! If you saw my Citroen e-C4, it takes minutes to execute a command! Unbelievable how backward European car companies are 😐. Speaking as a model 3 and byd atto3 owner, I wish tesla would have the 360 degree parking view and sensors. However, people are getting used to tesla quirks quickly. When it comes to overall software and driver assist tech, tesla is years ahead, which makes it worth the extra $. Knowing the limitations of tesla autopilot, I use it more and more even when not on highways. Driving on highway, it largely eliminated usual driving fatigue, which can be life changing for frequent long distance drivers. Hardware and build wise, BYD is solid.
@siasek
@siasek 9 месяцев назад
Hi, thank you so much for your comment! I'm glad that you don't hesitate to write what you miss in your Tesla. I agree that people get used to it quickly, otherwise Tesla surely wouldn't have the best selling cars in the world. Certainly in terms of assistance systems, Tesla is the furthest along, and I doubt anyone will overtake it anytime soon. I don't have a Tesla as a car, but I'm a small shareholder, so I'm definitely a fan 😁 BYD has really surprised me though. Today I saw what kind of mobile application it has, and the responses of the car are essentially in real time, something that European car companies can only dream of.

Since I got a car with a head up display, I wouldn't get another car without it. It's a game changer and basically I use this HUD with the buttons on the driving wheel for speed, cruise control, navigation, radio or music coming from my phone. I wouldn't even need screens in the car at all if I could set an address with my phone for the navigation or some settings via an app for instance.

The arrival of the Seal is good for anyone looking to buy a EV sedan. More choices if you are looking to buy new, it will (and already has) forced Tesla to drop the Model 3 price, and it will depress used Model 3 prices as well, making EVs more affordable for everyone. The only losers are those who bought in the last 12-18 months, as their resale values are atrocious. I really want the Seal but a 2-3 year old Model 3 is going to be such a bargain!
@siasek

Exactly, I'm really glad the Tesla Model 3 finally has cheaper competition, it's great for all of us. I'm just putting together a video on the sales stats of EVs in Europe and for example the new BMW i4 ranks interestingly (and it's a more practical liftback), people just love these cars. Agree with pretty much everything you stated there. Ordered the Seal Premium after looking at both options. Really did not like the Tesla’s bare interior and IMHO felt it was dangerous having to take my eyes off the road to do basic things on the screen or just check the speed I’m doing.

Interesting you say that, I have an Atto 3 and a Model 3, to view the speedo I need to lower my eyes on the Atto and look left but not down on the Model 3, neither one is easier than the other. Before I bought the Model 3 I thought I might get the Teslogic unit due to this, but in ownership decided it just wasn't necessary, for those who feel it is there are pretty cheap solutions. I saw an interesting interview yesterday where they addressed the fact that in the future the Tesla Model 3 and others will get steering from Cybertruck where there will be no fixed connection to the wheels and the steering wheel angle will be 180 degrees max, so you'll supposedly still have your hands in a good position to manipulate the turn signal buttons on the steering wheel. I don't like the HUD, it distracts me from the road... Not a friend of the "black shinny plastic" too, known as Piano Black (hate it)... I miss one thing in the Seal that Tesla has, one pedal driving. It is so comfy once you get used to it, that it hurts when you drive an EV that doesnt have OPD. Regen braking is so weak in the Seal compared to Tesla or other brands, such as Kia/Hyundai.

Agree 100%. IMO Tesla are getting away with stuff that should not be allowed. Their justification ... "it's the future" ... does not wash with me. I think people who think that are being made fools of. Car designs have incrementally improved in over 100 years. Tesla come along and say ... "all that stuff you have don, you don't need it" ... the hubris is astounding. What makes a good EV? Using all the knowledge of previous cars and replacing the drivetrain with electric and adding appropriate control systems. What doesn't make a good EV? .... looking directly at Tesla. BTW ... I remember a few years back the delays in the Model 3 coming to market were huge and Tesla was about to go bankrupt. My guess (I can not confirm) is that the direction came down from above that all 'non-essential' systems would be scrapped. Anything they can replace with an app instead of a physical presence, must be replaced with an app. That simplifies engineering and industrial design ... you just need to get the software right to control everything. Tesla ... you will not find me buying one ... actually you will not even find me ever travelling in one as a passenger.
@siasek
@siasek 9 месяцев назад
yes, we're on the same page. I've had several people tell me that I just don't get Tesla, that it's more progressive and that anything they leave out simply "isn't needed", but I don't really buy it either. My first EV was a VW e-Golf, which was a 7th generation Golf with an electric motor, so it was a nearly perfect car. Precisely because of what you wrote - they used all the knowledge from previous versions of the Golf and made it electric. Oh, how I miss that car. Only reason I replaced it was because it was a first generation EV, so only about 140 km of range on a good day and much less in the winter, but if I could've just put in a bigger battery I'd be driving it to this day. Your guess makes sense to me.. now that you mention it I do vaguely remember those issues Tesla was having several years ago. I am sure that switching all these systems to an app helped save their behinds. Unfortunately, seems like other manufacturers are taking notes. Oh, if only we could somehow combine Tesla's range with a Golf interior for the price of an MG4 or something 😄
@nunagoras
@nunagoras 9 месяцев назад
Ok, wonderful review! Yeah: Tesla still has some advantages, at least in some markets where there is no mandatory regulated charging cable standards for all the industry. We have that solved already here in the EU, but that's not the case in most of the world, sadly... So; now; there are effectively far better options to what Tesla is doing. Tesla is great for those techies that basically are used to do whatever else from their smartphone or tablet, but Tesla lacks generally some basics for the ones that are used to the traditional way of operating a car. BYD's mix between digital and analogical worlds is perfect, so that those basics are physically where they're supposed to be. I'd just await some more 2 or 3 years for BYD to see if they're that reliable or not compared to Tesla in terms of faillures and maintenance. Not that Tesla is that great at that front compared to traditional German/Japanese car makers, but BYD doesn't have current Tesla's service grid currently... If BYD happens to be a strong "yes", the choice is also obvious for me! Finally: Congrats for your absolutely delicious voice! Even me, a non native English speaker can understand yours at more than 90% without using the subtitle option, which is rare on me and on most non English speaking natives!... Let us to have more of this great work!...

I don't think that BYD, as one of the biggest manufacturers in China, will have quality or failure rate issues, I personally wouldn't worry about it. But I would definitely want to have service in my country, if only for repairs after a possible accident etc. So I agree, Tesla definitely has various advantages, but most of them are not relevant to me. Mainly it's great that we have more and more viable choices coming out and don't have to make so many compromises to drive an EV. Thank you so much for the compliment and I'm so happy you enjoyed the video! That means a lot 😊

I think it’s a matter of taste, first and foremost. I personally love the clean and austere interior, the minimalist approach of the TM3 dashboard area and the, to my eyes sleek, no nonsense outer design. Also having several functions like blinkers etc. is nothing new, and certainly not a Tesla invention. Try Googling Ferrari on that one. And as far as I know the Model S and X do have head up displays, so that’s also a little thing to consider. All automakers make mistakes at one point or an other. And then: having the possibility to correct them by updates is a good thing, don’t you agree? One could also consider how often any driver checks speed, outside temperature etc. etc.. There is no way for me to really know but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone, somewhere in this world has put some serious time and effort in collecting and analyzing driving behavior. We humans are creatures of habit, we do not like change, and traditional automakers know that. Hence their efforts trying to make EV’s look and feel like ‘normal’ cars. Can’t blame them for that. But things do change over time. They always do. Lot’s of fun and luck with your BYD!
@siasek
@siasek 9 месяцев назад
I agree that being able to fix issues through online updates is a good thing, but as far as I gather, Tesla has actually made some things worse with their updates, like parking sensors, for example. I know things change and of course progress is good, but there are times when progress just for progress' sake can be counterproductive (in my eyes). I get it, the long-term vision is to have self-driving cars, but we're not there yet, and until then, I think it's best to make driving as easy and intuitive as possible. Anyway, I don't own a BYD, I actually have a Citroen e-C4 at the moment, where they could've also listened more in class when it came to creating an enjoyable and intuitive driving experience 😄
