The BYD Seal Excellence is an all-wheel-drive powerhouse boasting a total power output of 390 kW, which translates to about 530 PS (horsepower), and 670 Nm of torque. This allows the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, pushing towards a top speed of 180 km/h. The electric range is formidable, with a real-world estimate of 485 km, which can extend up to 520 km according to WLTP ratings.
At the heart of the BYD Seal Excellence lies its 82.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, with an architecture operating at 800 volts, ensuring efficient energy use and rapid charging capabilities. The battery system comprises 172 cells configured in a single series, supporting a high nominal voltage of 550 V. For charging convenience, the Seal Excellence features a Type 2 charge port for home charging, achieving a full range in 9 hours with an 11 kW AC charger. Fast charging is even more impressive, with the car supporting up to 150 kW DC fast charging, allowing it to recharge from 49 to 388 km in just 38 minutes.
In terms of safety, the BYD Seal Excellence has been rigorously tested and rated by Euro NCAP, securing high scores for adult and child occupant protection, as well as for safety assist technologies, highlighting its commitment to passenger safety. The Seal's dimensions contribute to its roomy interior, with a length of 4800 mm and a width of 1875 mm, offering ample space and comfort for passengers and cargo, including a 53 L frunk for additional storage
00:00 Introducing the BYD Seal Excellence
Lars kicks off the video with a warm welcome to Totally Electric, immediately diving into the specifications of the BYD Seal Excellence. He highlights the dual motors with 530 horsepower and compares it to the Design version's single motor with 313 horsepower. Both models boast an 82.5 kWh battery, with the Seal Excellence offering about 520 km on the WLTP cycle.
00:43 The BYD Seal's Design and Capacity
In this segment, Lars explores the physical attributes of the BYD Seal. He walks us through its dimensions as a sedan, its seating capacity, door count, and the generous luggage space in both the rear and the 'frunk' - a first for a BYD vehicle, according to Lars. He also shares his driving experience on the scenic roads of Spain.
01:37 Performance and Driving Experience
Lars enthuses about the Seal Excellence's robust performance, with its rapid acceleration and firm suspension. Although he finds the regenerative braking less impressive, the overall handling and fun factor while driving through curves make up for it.
02:05 Competitive Edge and Pricing
Here, Lars positions the BYD Seal Excellence as a direct rival to the Tesla Model 3. He breaks down the pricing strategy and warranty offerings, urging viewers to consider the all-wheel drive for its fun factor and nominal price increase over the rear-wheel drive.
04:56 Interior Features and Quality
The focus shifts to the Seal's interior, where Lars praises the high-quality materials, including leather and suede, and the absence of any squeaks or rattles. He also showcases the car's full-length glass roof and spaciousness, suitable even for taller individuals like himself.
06:00 Technology and Entertainment
Lars is impressed with the Seal's tech features, noting the responsive touchscreen that controls various aspects, including the heated and vented seats. He highlights the compatibility with Spotify, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, plus the screen's unique vertical-to-horizontal rotation ability.
06:59 Safety and Autopilot Functionality
This segment covers the car's safety accolades and the autopilot feature. Lars gives a real-time demonstration of the car's ability to maintain lane discipline and distance from other vehicles, reflecting BYD's progress in software evolution and the convenience of over-the-air updates.
07:34 BYD's Market Impact and Final Thoughts
In the concluding part, Lars expresses admiration for BYD's rapid release of five cars in Europe within months. He gives a ringing endorsement of the BYD Seal, placing it at the top of his list for its blend of luxury, power, and reasonable pricing. Lastly, Lars invites viewers to stay tuned to Totally Electric for more electric car reviews and insights.

I’ve owned an AWD Performance BYD Seal for a few weeks now and I love it. It’s a difficult car to drive slowly (efficiently) as it’s such fun to drive. I have the bi-directional charging hooked up to my solar system to power my house at night, so it’s like getting 6 Tesla PowerWalls free with the car - videos on my channel for the doubters.

Have you found that wire yet? You know the one to stop that God awful pedestrian sound generator? Especially the ice cream truck sound, why does BYD make it so loud! Apart from that, BYD is quite good.
@EcoHouseThailand
@EcoHouseThailand 7 месяцев назад
There is an update I’ve seen online that has more sound options and the ability to switch it off apparently, but I don’t have it yet as it’s not an OTA. Here in Thailand the sound is not that loud, I can’t hear it inside the car.

As a car owner in China, I picked up the car in May this year. Of course, I purchased a low range version only available in the Chinese market, with a nominal range of 550KM (battery capacity of 62KW/h) in China. Because I have my own garage, I rarely use fast charging stations similar to those in Europe, Normally, I use BYD's free home charging station (7KW) (although its installation is done by BYD's third-party company, which requires payment). Based on my several months of use in Shanghai, I can drive it for about 350-400 kilometers when fully charged (depending on your driving habits and the weather conditions at the time, as temperature can affect the battery's discharge efficiency), Every time I have 40% of my battery remaining, I charge my car at night. Generally, I set the charging start time to 23:00 until the battery is fully charged (well, China's night time civilian electricity is only 0.32 RMB/KW from 22:00 to 6:00). If I use a high-voltage DC charging station, it can be charged to over 90% in about 30-45 minutes.

Amazing review, like & sub. Do you have any idea about the real world range and consumption? During my test drive three weeks ago I had the following disadvantages: - The climate controls are not accessible from Android Auto through a shortcut or navigation bar - Irritating artificial noise below 30 km/h - Disabling the speed limit warning is not that user-friendly and is hidden between most settings. At Tesla this can simply be done on the main screen
@TotallyElectric
@TotallyElectric 7 месяцев назад
Thanks Nick, I hope to have the car for a week sometime early January and will do plenty of range and charging tests. I’ve tried to seal in the past, but they have now updated the software and the artificial noise below 30 km an hour is only there when you’re in reverse, they have also made it easier to disable the speed limit warning, but they should do it like in the new Tesla Highland, where it’s a shortcut directly on the screen. I hope to see you back here again with my next review.
