For those who either don't know who Ed Sullivan was, or how POWERFUL an appearance was, back then, there were just 3 networks, and, as everyone (literally) was off the streets when I Love Lucy was airing, when Sunday nights rolled around, everyone was tuned to Ed Sullivan. With the explosion in the past couple of decades - first with cable, now with internet, the numbers (ratings) an average episode of his show would get, are next-to-impossible to do now. So, having the MacAfees singing this almost hymnal-like song (Paul Lynde is, as always hysterical), with Harry getting so choked-up, - meeting Ed, was akin t having a private meeting with the Queen, he was THAT big.
@Imani M Not really. Today's superstar is tomorrow's Dancing With The Stars guest is next week's forgotten mention in the Oscar's In Memorium segment. Remember man, you are dust...
Holy Underwear, Batman ! Great tune from a great musical ! I grew up watching Ed Sullivan's TV show in the 60's and 70's. He tried to have something for every age group. THANKS for uploading this fun clip !! CHEERS !! :-)
Cy@esse’ - I saw this at the drive in when I was like 9 I thought wow if I grow up to remotely look like Ann margret I won’t know what to do with myself.funniest movie musical since some like it hot.
Paul Lynde was such an amazing comic actor. From Bewitched to Bye Bye Birdie to Hollywood Squares such an amazing talent. Too bad he wasn’t treated fairly and taken advantage of.
@@mylesharris6329 You're right, the line found its way into the script of the Broadway production, but it was originally ad libbed by Paul Lynde during rehearsals. 'Birdie's' composer Charles Strouse writes about it in his autobiography. The creative team loved the ad lib so much that they put it in the script.
okay anyone who is saying that nick jonas should play birdie in the live theater filmed version of the musical. I disagree completely. The real person who should play this part is BRENDON URIE!! hes got the voice and the personality to go with it!! please start a trend #URIEFORBIRDIE on whatever social media you have and lets make it happen!!
Paul Lynde, the outest Hollywood actor ever. On Hollywood Squares tv show was asked “Aboard a ship when a man falls into the sea they shout ‘Man overboard!’, what do they shout if a woman falls into the ocean?” He replied “Full speed ahead!”
