The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Very cool to see the whole segment! I knew with this being "Bye Bye Birdie" week on the Sullivan channel that this would likely show up. Dick Van Dyke, Paul Lynde and the cast of the show on the 12th Anniversary Ed Sullivan episode. Great stuff!

my parents saw this on Broadway in 1960.. And when they got home my dad bought the original cast album. Personally I liked Jesse Pearson who played Conrad Birdie in the movie version instead of Dick Gautier. This is a treat to see a long clip of this

@@recordguy4321 "got a lot of livin" has a melody that sticks in your mind like few melodies do. I feel badly about Pearson's career not being all that it could have been. Seeing him show up on the old Andy Griffith show was a treat.

Dick Gautier had the great over-the-top performance needed for the stage play. Unfortunately, you can’t translate stage performance to television, as ABC showed us in the mid-90’s.

Kim is actually played by a girl of high school age! In the movie, no one would mistake the glamorous Ann-Margaret for a 16 year old. Of course, Hollywood always has actors in their twenties playing teens (Grease, for instance).

Since March 24, 2023, I have been wondering why the channel has been uploading all the various interpretations and cast performances of the music from Bye Bye Birdie. I discovered that the 60th anniversary of the film's release occurs on April 4, 2023. Or maybe all the Bye Bye Birdie uploads are just a coincidence.

Elvis should of received residuals from this , since they lifted the ideal, from his life.

He was asked to perform the role and he accepted, but Cornel Parker turned the show down. He didn’t want Elvis parodying himself. Also, he wouldn’t let them use the name Pelvis.
