Few if any Californians are going to do this. Something else is going on here, Byrna marketing that the way to be able to carry a pepper projectile weapon is to become a licensed security guard. No one is going to do that. Last year in June the Supreme Court of the United States conferred on all Americans the absolute Constitutional right to conceal carry firearms. (See the Bruen decision here on RU-vid). States like California are illegally resisting change because of that decision, but federal judges are setting them straight. E.g., every time New York, California, et al., enact some new gun control legislation, federal judges strike those laws as unconstitutional. Once Californians learn about Bruen and what it means, people will opt to carry a firearm rather than become a licensed security guard just to carry an ineffective pepper ball weapon. We are a lazy lot, that's just the human way. P.S. If California govt. was smart they would make it legal to carry pepper projectile weapons, so that citizens opt to carry those instead of an easily obtained conceal carry firearm.

I live in California and think the situation is STUPID. The Byrna HD is nothing more than a paintball gun that shoots CX/Pepper spray pellets. You can buy pepper spray without a license in any store in CA. You can buy paintball guns in most sporting goods stores without a license in CA. BUT combine the two into a very compact and reliable package like Byrna has done and now that is illegal or you have to pay the state $300 to do so. SMH

PC 22810: illegal in CA to purchase, possess, or use any Tear Gas that is not an aerosol, or that is over 2.5 oz. . It is very disingenuous for Byrna to sell this to people in CA because what they are doing is making it the "violation" of the purchaser, because the buyer has a tear gas license and therefore they are responsible for knowing the law. That's how Byrna sells the pepper ball ammo, even though it's illegal in CA. All they have to say is, "Not our fault if you didn't follow the law. You are licensed and you are responsible." There is no exemption for Security Guards to bypass PC 22810, despite all the backyard lawyer guards out there.

@@johnowens22 This is the actual word by word for California Residents. You CAN use it but only in "self defense." Penal Code 22810 PC - Unlawful Use of Tear Gas in California PC 22810 makes it a crime in California to possess tear gas for any other reason than self-defense. However, if someone uses tear gas as a weapon for any reason other than self-defense, they can be charged with a crime under Penal Code 22810 PC.

@@johndover7096 to be honest... It's more worth it to buy a paintball gun with the same diameter barrel. There are also less expensive options to ball pistols. Once they air cartridge runs dry, you and gonna be reloading it

@@TucoTheKiller yea true that. Techinically its not that lethal if you are a couple of yards away and the rounds are not the ones that have metal ball bearings inside so im sure the bad guy is not gonna die from a hard plastic ball hitting their face unless I actually go up and dome his head point blank in the temporal area.

I doubt California consumers/civilians would be interested in this. Who in their right mind would themselves through all this simply to possess a weapon that shoots pepper projectiles, which IMO is the worst, most ineffective self-defense weapon. I suspect there's an ulterior motive at play here. A publicly traded company can't possibly think there's money to be made in offering your neighbors John and Mary the opportunity to become licensed security guards. Heck, in the 50 year I've been around pepper spray and Mace devices I can count on one half of one hand the number of people I've known who even were aware of what pepper spray was. And out of the thousands of Californians I have known, not a one has ever expressed a desire to carry pepper spray or Mace.
