Really hoping you or someone in the community makes a power mod for this thing, 20 or 30 joules out of this gun would be amazing! There is also a lot of them out already so a good business endeavor, I know I would buy one, the new LE version they came out with is barely strong than SD at a ridiculous premium if you are just buying it all over again or trading up.
There are a couple of ways to do it either using epoxy or drill and tap the upper cap. Either or requires permanent modification so it measures 10 time before drilling/glueing as parts are added unobtaniumm.
It’s to bad for such a nice looking launcher that thing is ridiculously underpowered. If you could get 30-33 joules out of it it actually would be worth checking out and probably owning for the fact of its carry and conceal convenience. But what that thing puts out there are way better options on the market for the same price. I mean I can literally throw that gun harder at someone than it can shoot 😆. That’s not good for the price tag on it. Hopefully someone can figure out how to bump up the hitting power on it or it’s only use is to shoot pepper balls to have any kind of effect on an assailant. You arent wrong. I think a reasonable goal is 20j for a marker with such a short barrel and the type of firing system but my gut tells me 15-16j is probably tops. For the money it is not a good kinetic launcher and if i am not mistaken Bynras kinetic rounds are labelled for practice which makes perfect sense.
@@lesslethalfordummies For the new LE model in their 2023 catalog, Byrna is claiming 340 fps and 16.1 joules with an effective range of 80'. That one would have the advantage of a slightly longer barrel than the SD as well as 12 gram CO2. It will be interesting to see what kinds of gains you will make with tuning parts, best of luck on the reassembly.
@@williamhollenbaugh2547 i am curious as well what the new LE model will produce. Could it just be smoke and mirrors? Is the barrel longer or is it just the Byrna Boost attachment? MLL did some tests a while back and saw small gains from a compensator in one test and no gains in another so it should be interesting. My parts are now in customs so it wont be long.
@@lesslethalfordummies For the SD XL, Byrna said they extended the barrel into the boost module. I am guessing they do the same on the LE if they really want it to be the best they can make in that size. I believe it lengthens the barrel about 3/4".
I have a 2year old byrna hd I took apart because it had no power, I could spit harder than it shot . I don't know how to take a picture of it and send it to you
I sent it back to byrna to get it fixed they sent it back and said there wasn't nothing wrong with it sometimes it would shoot good other times it wouldn't shoot hardly at all so now I'm trying to get it back together I hope you can help me

They didn't charge me anything that time but they sent it back said there was nothing wrong with it so I took it apart myself put it back together finally after 20 times in a year later I don't know what I did wrong but sometimes it shoots and sometimes it don't but when it does shoot it's very powerful and it was never that powerful before but you got to pull the trigger 20 times before it might hit I don't know what I did wrong
Love your video! Glad I found this! Honesty it looks a bit complicated for me. Mine isn’t working right now. When I squeeze the trigger the cartage leaks and it doesn’t fire. Do you think I might be able to find the problem without taking the whole thing apart? There may be a piece of paint ball stuck. I got some out when I cleaned it. Might just send it to them to try to fix 😕
Thank you. The launcher itself isnt complicated but setting the hammer spring while trying to get the clam shell back together is an endeavour. I am sure they use some sort of jig to do it at the factory….me i am just armed with a pair of curved needle nose pliers. They do repairs to my understanding with a $50 flat rate when outside of warranty. When you look down the co2 chamber can you see a white seal present where the neck of the co2 would sit and puncture? When a marker is contaminated with pepper or paint in your case Byrna recommended submerging in water and allowing to dry completely. At this point i would at least put a good squirt of silicone oil on the tip of a cartridge and send it through the marker.
@@lesslethalfordummiesWow, thanks for responding so quickly! 😅 I did look down the c02 chamber before and was thrilled because that’s where I saw an object and removed it but it still is not functioning. Inside at the bottom the wall there is not white, just black. I feel like I SHOULD try to do it myself, but $50 isn’t big a deal 😬 beyond that I also tried cleaning it with the dealers cleaning kit.
@@DigitalCitizen1there is a good chance there is more junk in there. The problem is if the seal is missing you would have to find an appropriate substitute from Tipx or maybe Fsc? Byrna doesnt sell spare parts.
@@lesslethalfordummies are you thinking the seal is missing and there is no replacement for it? If they don’t have spare parts for that, that should rule out the idea of sending it to them, assuming they likely don’t mess with after market products. Seems like it’s getting more and more complicated. Are these substitutes you speak of on par with the original. How complex would it be for the ordinary guy? I knew I shouldn’t use paintball rounds but I let my friend talk me into it.😞
@@DigitalCitizen1Byrna has the parts they just wont sell them to you. This means if the seal is damaged and you want to make an attempt you would need to find an alternative. Get a light and shine it down there and see if you can see any further debris or something else obvious.
Interesting video as always. Looks like a pain working on it. Good luck putting it back together. When you have the valve open try and put in a softer valvespring or cut the orginal spring down a little. That should give more CO2 when firing 😉. Looking forward to your videos. Cheers from Norway 😃
I fiddled a little more last night and i do have all the pieces back in the right spot so assembly should be fairly smooth. Yes various valve springs ordered and maybe a little dremel and file work. With a little luck as you said it might be decent.

I wonder how such a complex weapon works so well. Before I saw this video I very much wished I had one the same. You have conveyed to me your anxiety when you opened it 😨 I would like to know more about the chamber how it seals when you pull the trigger. I have made some improvements to the HDB 68 but I want to open it again but I want you to give me some answers about the Byrna booth first because I have no experience in other markers to make a comparison and to be able to decide which would be the best solution for HDB 68
The Byrna is a different animal. The chamber isnt actually that small but i do see room for some improvements but only the results will tell. I will share a video of me opening the chamber once some parts arrive. I dont have an Hdb68….yet 😂 Too many markers not enough money.
@@lesslethalfordummies you don't have enough money because you buy the most expensive ones first.😃 In recent years I have changed theory that expensive is the best 😉 generally.
I put a penlight down the barrel with a round chambered. I pulled the trigger incredibly slowly. It actually wasn't sealed when it "fired" (went click). There was still a sliver of projectile showing, while looking down the magwell. I postulated a fast trigger pull might seal better. If you are exercising trigger control you might lose fps. If the mechanical timing could be adjusted there might be something to gain there. edit: I found the video and posted it, under "shorts".
