Yes, I have tested all of my byrnas and they will hold an extra round. There is no way I would make it a common practice though. I figure the people that designed it know exactly what should be in there. Just because it fits doesn't mean you should utilize it that way. Great video as always.

I totally agree! Nice to see you’re still hanging around, do you still use your Defender? I have come to the realization you have to charge the cartridges every week or so to keep them reliable. Wait until you see a few videos I have planned for the Defender I have been working with a friend and he has made some huge improvements! How about the barrels actually fitting without wrapping tape around them and a piccitiny rail on bottom for a laser or light instead of the top and the useless laser that is built in. improved front sight and 3 different sizes including a compact which is 1” shorter than the original and if that’s not enough we are also working on a 68 cal less lethal that shoots Grimburg D shaped 7.5 gram projectiles. Just take your old outdated barrel receiver off and slap on the new and you’re good to go! They will be for sale soon!

Finally someone else says the same things I've said in other channels where I get mocked for saying these things. Now that the improved 7 round magazines have been our for a while and no one is complaining of them breaking things, I can finally free safe ordering a few for our two Byrna. I actually contacted Byrna about oiling every 500 rounds because their CO2 cartridge boxes ship with 9 regular and 1 oiler cartridge for your Byrna. I asked them why do we need to use an oiler cartridge after 180 rounds if they recommend oiling it after 500? They told me to used the oiler cartridge at either 500 rounds or if I feel like the launcher is starting to feel like it's not shooting as it should. How clean you keep your Byrna and the ammo you use will affect how quickly gunk can build up which the oiler cartridges help to clean out and keep the internal lubed. Just FYI, I based by numbers on 5 rounds per clip, 4 clips per CO2 (anything after 20 rounds is too weak to count), and 9 CO2 per box (saving that 10th oiler cartridge for later use). 5*4*9=180 🥺
@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 Год назад
I agree I think 500 rounds between oiling/cleaning seems to be too long and I never go past 3 seven round clips myself. I will probably stick to around 180 shot’s between maintenance to be on the safe side. Thanks for watching!

Ive watched a lot of your videos over the last day as I get ready to get my LE. I appreciate the tips as I was wondering if you could chamber one and then load the mag back up. Its good advice, they're pretty pricey, and of course the last thing I want to do is get a jam in a moment of need because i tried to squeeze another round in which is the biggest take-away for me.
@SeanChristopherMcGee
@SeanChristopherMcGee 7 месяцев назад
If you chamber and then throw in a mag...It could jam up the mechanism and me personally would not advise it. The mag will still try and chamber a round regardless if one is there or not, so you are right it may jam in a time of need......theoretically speaking :-)
@kamakuro2

I would just get an X-tra extension you’ll be able to hold more rounds and the jam isn’t an issue 🙏 I just ordered mine plus a “bigger” spring 😇😬

Thanks for the video! I just found you on youtube and will watch more. I don't know if you mentioned this in another video yet but on here you mentioned about the lubrication....Byrna actually found a way to do this from the CO2 cartridge. The one I had or have from Bryna has 8 cartridges in the box but one is lightly labeled "Oil" So after the 500 rounds or so you can place this CO2 cartridge labeled 'Oil" and use it normally. Supposedly it will oil the mechanisms.

It would be nice if the video was on BYRNA website. Just like how to fold the full-size target I purchased. Had a heck of a time figuring out how to fold that thing so I could get it back in the bag.

You are correct about the 5+1 and 7+ 1 arrangement, and byrna does not recommend using such load outs. Of course, the one thing they didn’t count on is that certain balls are slightly undersized, and when loaded in a magazine it will give it the margin the barrel and chamber needs to add the +1. And of course, it is definitely not recommended to load +1 with anything other than kinetics. Pepper or gas payloads may crack under the extra stress. I’m still doing further tests into the efficacy and reliability of the +1 with and without chem loads, results pending. And finally, YMMV Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

@@airgunnerreviews7888 The other day I had a duke plus OC ball leak in a 7-rd magazine, and I had it loaded with 1 kinetic, 5 OC, and 2 kinetic. I may have to adjust the spring tension on it. I also swapped out the Duke OC with another Kinetic. Here goes nothing
@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 Год назад
Well that sucks! You’re the first person commenting that the Duke rounds leak I was hoping they had stronger shells than Byrna. I think the extra round in the chamber really compresses the spring I have mine loaded with 5 OC and 2 kinetics on top with no extra round in the chamber and it’s been months without a leak. Hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself 🙏🏻
@JackofNothingess
@JackofNothingess Год назад
@@airgunnerreviews7888 the Duke balls are quite good, IMHO. I think loading 7+1 is strongly not recommended, and I loaded it with 7+1.
@JackofNothingess
@JackofNothingess 11 месяцев назад
Another update: last time I reported that I got a leak with Duke Plus PAVA rounds, and I failed to mention I loaded 8 rounds total in the magazine, since the kinetics were just undersized enough to fit one more and tried 8+1 into my SD. Obviously that went over the load force limit and it leaked out. Since then, I managed to get 10rd extenders from Wixon’s shop and I was better able to load 6 Duke Plus in it with 3 kinetics no problem. I didn’t want to overload it and cause the 6 rounds to break or leak, as that would be a big and expensive mess to clean up, so I loaded up 9 rounds total. And, I didn’t load the Duke Plus rounds at the bottom, as they will roll on each other and could crack the seams if there’s too much spring pressure. So far so good. The key is not to overload the magazines and put too much force on the chem rounds that they leak.

The only 12 gram they warn about is Crosman. Most others are fine. Crosman QC is terrible and the caps are too thick on many and can cause issues. The Byrna CO2 packs are great though as they include an oiler cartridge that makes proper oiling so easy.

I was thinking that myself, them not wanting people to use the cheapest and most readily available co2 cartridges which would be crosman, of course they would rather people by their own, it is interesting that crosman is the only one mentioned though. You also want to watch vibration around here equipment. I'm a truck driver so mine is always vibrated just from driving down the road all day long and the last time I went to use it the trigger wouldn't go back into place after pulling it. Right now it's a pile of parts waiting till I get home to put it back together because The part that is spring loaded that returns the trigger forward popped off so I had to take the entire gun apart to get to that part to put it back together. Very poor design. I don't know if it was from vibration or it just dropping because she fell off of the place that I hold her while I drive a time or two.

I think the Byrna pistols are over-engineered. I've had internal parts from the first LE fall out of the mag well, causing the safety switch to be wishy washy and no longer have that defined click. After another bigger failure with the CO2 piercing mechanism, I sent it back to Byrna. It was still under their 1 year warranty, so they fixed it and sent it back to me. Works fine for now.

I had a Crosman CO2 BB rifle which came with a warning NOT to leave the CO2 cartridges in it because the seals could/would eventually leak and make it useless. Sure enough that happened, and I trashed the rifle. I don't recall any warnings about in the Byrna manual; does leaving the pierced CO2 cartridge in the SD pose a similar risk? If CO2 cartridges should be removed if the weapon is not fired shortly, that seems to be an unnecessary waste of the cartridges.
@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 4 месяца назад
There is a caution highlighted in yellow on page 10 to always remove the CO2 cylinder after use. If cylinder is punctured and not removed, premature wear of the C02 seal will result in gas leak. I agree it is a waste! Thanks for watching!!!

I just got my byrna LE today. I only used a Co2 twice and now I'm noticing a slight rattle when I shake the model side to side (twisting motion). I don't think it rattled before.. is this normal? I will preface by saying I did not use all the gas, I popped it off twice and decided to retire the weapon. So I backed out the Co2 early (having prior knowledge of air bb guns). And I heard something pop. So I'm unsure if I caused damage by not using more air first. Nothing mentions this in the user guides
@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 16 дней назад
Hi there! First off you did nothing wrong! Releasing the extra air either by shooting or unscrewing the cap is fine. The pop noise could be the trigger resetting which is common when the extra air is exhausted. I own both the LE and SD and they both have a small rattle when you shake them but as long as it doesn’t sound like a part you should be fine. I would use it again today and shoot 3 mags and bleed off the extra air just to make sure.

Byrna offers their own oiler kit they recommend using and can be found under accessories on the Byrna website and the composition stated is mineral lubricant oil. I honestly don’t know what their reasoning would be over silicone but they must have one. Unlike Umarex and FSC there is no firing bolt to launch the projectile so perhaps this is the reasoning?

Byrna recommends not to store a pierced C02 in the launcher as it can damage the C02 seal. I have been purchasing Umarex C02 (12 gram) off of Amazon and it is much cheaper, there is also Mr. Fizz seltzer cartridges in 8 gram for the SD model also on Amazon. I have extensively tested both and are comparable to Byrna for a fraction of the price. You won’t mind wasting unused C02 as much, lol!

@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 5 месяцев назад
Hi Steve! At any point you should be able to flip the safety on and when you press the trigger a projectile should not fire, however I have noticed on mine the safety doesn’t move as freely between clips so it may feel like it is stuck so just give it a firm push. Good Luck!!! It is also ok to dry fire to release enough air to be able to loosen the C02 cap. There is no firing bolt in these so dry fire will not hurt the launcher.

What’s the difference if I have a standard five round mag with +1 compared to the seven round mag?
@airgunnerreviews7888
@airgunnerreviews7888 Год назад
The 5 round and 7 round mags have different spring tensions. When you load an extra round in the barrel you are increasing the tension on the barrel spring that moves the barrel back and forward and overtime can lead to jamming problems and there is a decrease of power on the first shot which will be shown in my next video!
