I feel like this is getting wildly misconstrued. People are under the impression that being a victim of sexual assault or rape means that BYU views you as having broken the honor code. Not true. If you're at a party, in the room of a member of the opposite sex, drinking or doing drugs, or anything against the honor code, and that comes up in the police report that a victim files, that is where BYU steps in. I don't mean to make light of what has happened to victims, but how can BYU offer "immunity" from the Honor Code just because you had to admit what you were doing the night something horrible happened to you? Now, I don't agree with the honor code. I think its ridiculous that the school tries to parent its adult students. But, if you go there, you know that's part of the deal. I'm sure that this is going to get a lot of hate, but, you're being punished for what you did prior to the assault, not for the assault itself. Regardless, I hope that victims of sexual assault and rape can get the help and justice they need.
