amazingly nuanced ending. he lost everything, so he decided to blow up his ultra head and replace it with painbot. now he will always feel pain.

Painbot is the perfect example of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should"

Ultra Dad changing the lightbulb midair is perfection

With Painbot a robot revolt would be guaranteed...and entirely justified.

I was crying and luahign at the same time Ultra said "Buddy NOOOO" I honestly wasn't expecting the story to be so emotional...

They drag him away from his life and family, threw him into war, discarded him once the war was over with no benefit whatsoever, and say goodbye goodluck. Hmmm...

FYI: This is from the Cyanide & Happiness Show, Season 3, which was released back in 2017 on a streaming platform. These weren't shorts - they were longer and meant to have more of a narrative, especially Season 3, which had a full season-long plotline. So, spoilers, but Painbot and Ultrasoldier will return.

I love how the Painbot kept trying to vibrate itself off the cliff.

1:43 10/10 product - would painbot again. Whoever narrated that commercial deserves a cookie - that was Billy Mays level quality.

Wow this is like the only C&H video to make me cry a bit....how he went from a loving kind family guy to what the government made of him and the ending where he replalces his head with painbot so that he can process all that pain. And that long frame cinematic shot of him taking out the grenade from his head. A cinematic movie by c&h ....we need more of these....10/10. Better than most action movies. Well done c&h.

Owning a Painbot is basically having Schadenfreude. No other reason, except maybe that you relate with them.

I'm older now, and see the stories in these s&h videos, ultra soldier is about PTSD and the horrors of it, making a soldier think they've lost it all, tempting suicide, because not only did they murder innocent people, they've lost comrades, friends, and family. These start to make sense to me

I usually am not a person who falls into depression but the first time I saw the Painbot segment on the full-length C&H Show, I felt something very deep and unsettling within me 😅.

Best movie of the year, it had everything. Even Painbot. Especially Painbot.

Fantastic as always! The jokes were great and animation was always fun! This episode hit home for me. And I wanted to share a story. Don’t worry it does have a happy ending but it is super rough to get there (CW: PTSD, emotional abuse) I had an ex who was in the military. He was kinda like ultrasoldier in that the military wouldn’t let him go. He was deployed a lot and it sucked because he was treated like shit by his command and wouldn’t be promoted to the rank he wanted despite him being the best at his job in his unit. We were friends for a long time before we tried our hand at a relationship. My ex was interested in everything: he spoke 5 languages, played music, wrote fiction, and even painted a little bit. He loved expressing himself and he loved to help people out. But the military always forced him to deploy and he told me things he saw that were bad. Like war crime bad. He would use alcohol as a coping mechanism and one night I saw him after 19 mixed drinks. He was so shit faced he asked me to punch him (I didn’t) Later we got into a relationship and the night we made it official he cut himself real bad at his place. Problem was he didn’t have insurance (he left the military on his own terms). I asked him if he wanted to go to the VA and he told me that it would be pointless. So what does he do? He gets an iron and uses that to cauterize his wound. We were at a work party of his and the night was going really well but he continued to drink. When he got shit faced he would get really cynical of life and would always want to fight someone. I remember he was trying to goad one of his coworkers to hitting him. Another friend of his, also a vet, was helping me trying to get my ex back home. My ex declined as he wanted to make sure another drunk co worker got home safe. So his friend and I got into our Uber (mind you it is a blizzard outside) and go back to his place. My ex shows up later that night completely wasted and starts breaking shit at his place. He actually threw a knife into his door. So later my ex and I were once again at his place and he was wasted. The night got weird. My ex was in one of his moods and he was out of it more than usual and asked me if I trusted him as we were laying together on his bed. I said I do and he grabs his pistol off of his night cabinet and asks me to pull the trigger on him. I tell him no I am not gonna do that. He aims the gun at another part of his room and pulls the trigger; nothing happens because the gun wasn’t loaded. That night still haunts me. Later we break up and for two years I don’t really interact with him. I have flashbacks occasionally to that night and the things he said and did. He never physically hurt me but the emotional scars are there. Kind of like painbot 😞 Anyway two years past and my ex reaches out to me. He wants to make amends. So we meet up at a local restaurant near me and we talk for hours. I tell him exactly how I felt because of his actions. And you know what: he apologized. He explained to me that he hurt a lot of people during that period because he himself was lost. War PTSD along with a Tonne of personal traumas caused him to always be vigilant and always on edge. So after everyone he knew left him he had to come to terms that he was not ok. He told me that something that helped him was that he realized he is a gay man. He even has a boyfriend that he has been seeing for a long time. He had to crawl out of his darkness and change. He had to come to accept to leave his military experience behind him and move forward to things he wanted to do. He got his degree in creative writing and is now entering writing contests! I’m really proud of him because he changed for the better. But he still is working hard to make his life better. As for me I’ve spent this year really tackling my own issues and am at a better place too. The moral of this story is that if you are in that dark place you can get out of it. You are not alone; you matter. They say it takes a village to raise someone and it really does. You don’t have to be like painbot ❤

I love that the magic of coincidence put this episode, and many others, into the Stephen King Dark Tower universe with the Flaggerty Character.
