Finally got around to sanding out some runs on the inside of the bed. Not a lot of fun and a high risk of sanding through. Part of the game though. #stoutcustom #c10 #restoration

Makes me rethink painting inside the bed as an assembly. You know, hindsight….

Haven’t seen you in a while. Nice job! Patience is the name of the game. The old paint stick block is tried and true. Got a Tol block kit a few years back that’s came in handy. You ever try the skim coat of glaze over runs? It works pretty well for staying level but works best on areas you know are flat. That area on the head panel isn’t exactly too flat though for that method.
@StoutCustom
@StoutCustom 5 месяцев назад
I've done the glaze method a time or two. Can't remember if I had the runs gone and still had glaze or the glaze gone and still had runs, lol, but I didn't like it that well.

@@StoutCustom Also, just thought about it, if you would have followed my advice and shot some bedliner in that almost perfectly painted and dent removed bed you wouldnt have had to fix that run. 😁

I wish 2 1/2 years ago when you sand single stage runs they end up with a white type haze. I sprayed my truck had a few runs ( you know if don’t get runs you ain’t painting) put most of the truck back together giving the paint time to cure started working on the runs and they turned white ish . Took it all back apart sanded reworked some bodywork resprayed primer then guid coat and sanded.Started masking last night going base clear this time around. What I did when working the runs out was paint sticks different grits and wrap3/4” masking tape on each end when I got close finer grit no tape on ends. On the razor blades I’d hit the corners on the bench grinder. Do you still have both of the trucks you painted this blue?

@@timhudson8958 the 67 wasn’t mine but the owner has it together and going to shows. The squarebody is mine. They look very similar in video but the blue and the white are different on each one.

Now maybe I should post vid of myself sanding out all the dust in my hood! I don't know where it came from when I clear coated it.
@StoutCustom
@StoutCustom 5 месяцев назад
Dust, runs, mistakes…all part of the process. It would be great if things just turned out perfect the first go round but it’s seldom the case. Takes patience which I run low on at times, lol

We use a razor blade first before we start sanding
@StoutCustom
@StoutCustom 5 месяцев назад
10-4. It’s a good option. I kinda got away from that because the newer clears we were using would tear instead of scrape. Some of it was because we were rushing things and trying to fix runs before the paint fully cured. Gotta love a production shop, lol
@jonathans5318
@jonathans5318 5 месяцев назад
Does the razor blade trick not work on single stage or do you not like that method?
@StoutCustom
@StoutCustom 5 месяцев назад
It works on single stage but I’m not a big fan of the method. I would just rather start with a coarse grit and sand it.

What polisher and pad did you use?
@StoutCustom

I used a Milwaukee M12 polisher and the medium and fine pads that came with it.
