We had a fleet of them we artached the returns of the rockers together with a tubing between the covers drilling holes on the covers adding rubber sealsifone side only oils
Thnx for info on rubber crush sealing sleave for oil tube as ive damaged one of my small metal compression end washers. Looked on line to purchase them but cannot find any. I guess the new rubber tubbing by itself seems the way to go. Could try and fabricate a thin shoulder washer maybe out of copper tubing? We'll see . . . I've got the gear pump style on my 272 f100 with no keeper on drive shaft. Was rebuilt some time ago. Still o k with out keeper but is handy to have as you say at bottom side so if pulling out distributor you don't inadvertantly pull shaft out as well. I know in newer ( 60s and 70s, 302 in gerneral) blocks if you forget to install the keeper and pull distributor shaft the oil pump shaft can come up with distributor enough to dislodge from pump and can then fall down vertically via gravity, missing the pump drive falling into oil pan. Yippy!! NOT! Have been successful so far couple of dissembling and reassembling couple of times, with no keeper on the y, as I believe it doesn't have much where else to go. If I put in from top with distributor I'll pack some grease in distributor drive hole and nicely turning rotor back n forth drop assembly into place. Seems to work for me. So far. Thnx
It s too bad you chose to leave out the actual removal and reinstall of the pump, thats the real tricky part and l was looking forward to learning something about that part of this job.
Yep - the title and description of the video certainly is just about the repair of the pump itself. I've never really heard of issues with removal or installation of the oil pump. What seems to be the trouble? You can email me at dan.jessup@hotrodreverend.com. Thanks for watching!
@@HotRodReverend I have a 59 F600, with the 292 engine, I need to pull the pan off to reseal it. I'm assuming the oil pump has to come off first, together with the pickup tube so l can get the pan off. In my search for "removing oil pump", your video looked most promising ! Sometimes what a person is looking for you find is a byproduct of what the youtuber is showcaseing! So far my attempts at loosening the nuts on the pickup tube have been unsuccesful, they are very tight, no rounded corners yet. It would be good to see it being done, so I know whether there is possibly an issue like LH threads on the fittings ?
There is a retaining clip on the oil pump drive shaft to keep the shaft in position when pulling the distributor. It is really difficult to put through drive rod in their through the top because there is no sight line and the bore is much wider than the hex shape of the rod. You would also have to figure out how to put the rod into position while only going through the hole for the distributor body.
daniel ...i have a 292 ci and my tube thats on the drivers side when i open the hood ,,,LEAKS .. AS YOU said its probably the crankshaft breather assembly ....now im wondering,,,what 2 gaskets ..would stop this leak ,,,it has a weak cylinder but ive tried a remedy or at least temporary ,,,marvel mystery oil and bardahls ...no smoke ..but the leak ,,,if you can help me tackle that ,,,what gaskets could i need and where to find them ,,,and how much labor would it take >>???/ is it simple to do ..or extensive ????/ thank you for whatever you can help me with !!! if you could do a video of THAT ,,THAT WOULD BE A GREAT HELP
I have no extra blocks here in my garage, they are all 3 states away in storage. Visit HotRodReverend.com and shoot me an email from there - I may have some pics to help
very nice presentation. Just wondered where you got the gasket set? My 64 F100 that I recently acquired has the same issue. Just a side question, what color red is that?
The gasket set? Did you mean the rebuild kit for the oil pump? If so… I purchased that on eBay. For the color red on the car, it is Hot Rod Pinup Red from Eastwood Restoration Supply in PA. The red on the engine block is rattle can Duplicolor Ford Red ceramic engine paint.
We can't post pics this way - shoot me an email at danaxjessup@yahoo.com and I will be glad to help. That tube (straight down I assume) is on the drivers side of the block right? If so, that is your crankcase breather assembly. There are two gaskets - one that mates to the block and one that mates the canister to the assembly (one bolt holds it down). Under the canister is a round, mesh-like filter. Send some pics to my email address when you have time...
Leaving the pump loose will help in starting the feed oil tube from the pan to the pump; your video did not show you staring it. Also as a point ….this is a total pain with power steering, Thanks for the video.
